Traveling to Stony Brook? - 13 years ago
I'm considering making the trip from Ithaca with a couple of friends. Can anyone give me a sense about what traffic is like around the campus/stadium? I remember that it took like an hour to get from 495 to Foxboro last year. Given that we have the early game and it's a long trip, I don't want to have to get there too far before the game. Also, any idea if there is a Cornell section? There's nby ebilmes - Other Sports
Re: CU's 2010-2011 Schedule - 13 years ago
The only way I can see this benefitting Cornell from a hockey standpoint is if we count this as a Cornell home game, push the @Colgate game to a Tuesday, and schedule a quality NC opponent on the free weekend. That, or if Colgate ends up as a TUC...by ebilmes - Hockey
Potential NCAA Rule Changes - 13 years ago
Interesting article on USCHO about some of the changes which may be made this summer. Some examples: -half-shield face masks may be mandatory -mandating 4x4 overtime -"hybrid icing" -eliminating ability of shorthanded teams to ice the puck -elimination of the obtainable pass exemption for icing -penalizing players for sending the puck over the glass (anyone at the Quinnipiac gaby ebilmes - Hockey

It’s always a source of pride whenever a Newfoundlander has a shot at the pros, but even more so when it’s someone with whom you have a passing association, and know to be a decent, unpretentious man.by ebilmes - Hockey

Discretionary Awards Career Improvement - Joe Scali. He wasn't even starting every night until his junior season. Talk about a guy who got the most out of Cornell and the Schafer system. His skating (treadmill, anyone?) has improved tremendously, and he's a monster forechecker and penalty killer. Would have loved to see him finish some of those 2-on-1s, but that's not his strong suit. Transby ebilmes - Hockey

Re: RIT fans - 14 years ago
RIT's fan base was impressive because (a) their AD helped students to get to the game with cheap tickets and free transportation, (b) their students sat/stood together in the same section, and (c) Cornell's fans were surprisingly quiet for all of Friday's game, including the first period and a half. If I'm on the ice, I'd rather be playing for the team with one full section of energetby ebilmes - Hockey

billhowardUnlike the Is Donahue Leaving? thread that lit off the minute the New Year's ball tounched down in Times Square, eLynah has been reasonably quiet about Riley Nash. Maybe it's just that we assume he's out of here so why waste keystrokes? I don't have any information, but it would shock me if he stayed. See:by ebilmes - Hockey

Greenberg '97 sockralex mnagowski Um, why does everybody misspell UNH? Yeah, it's a long story that involves their own fans' inability to put their U-H-N signs in correct order. The story ends with them sucking and not deserving respect when being discussed in pregame discussion. Somewhere in the middle of the story is the tale of a goal that was waved off on a "high stick" that waby ebilmes - Hockey
Volpatti - 14 years ago
IJ: Brown's Aaron Volpatti set the school record for single-season penalty minutes in the ECACH consolation game Saturday. Volpatti said he mentioned that he was near the record to referee Chip McDonald before the game, and when he took a slashing call late in the third period he asked McDonald if it was worth a 10-minute penalty. McDonald asked if Volpatti wanted a 10-minute penalty, and Volpby ebilmes - Hockey

Basketball Recruiting (oops) - 14 years ago
The team's success is having an obvious effect on recruiting: Tarwater, admittedly, didn’t know too much about Cornell early in his recruitment. But its staff was persistent. Tarwater followed Cornell throughout the season. He noticed the wins over Alabama and UMass and the near-win over Kansas. He saw Cornell win the Ivy League for a third consecutive time. And then the two NCAA tournaby ebilmes - Other Sports
