Re: Lax 2008 - 16 years ago
It feels wrong to focus on 2008 so soon. I'm still soaking up the good vibes of 2007. With all those seniors graduating, there will be some growing pains next year, no doubt. It's not easy to replace three super midfielders, the national goalie of the year, the national defenseman of the year, and the entire starting attack unit at the same time. Although losing Belisle is tough, at least tby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Re: NCAA Lax Semis - Cornell 11 @ Duke 12 (FINAL) - 16 years ago
RitaBTW, has anyone heard from Hillel? He seems to be the one of the biggest fans of the team and he must be crushed. I'm alive and well and enjoying Baltimore, lacrosse, and life in general. That comeback was one of the greatest moments in Cornell sports history; I feel privileged to have witnessed it in person. My son cried and cried when Duke took a 7-3 lead. I bought hard-to-find stadium parking passes for Saturday and Monday's games at M&T Bank Stadium from the Cornell Mid-Atlantic Regional Office -- and now I've discovered that I don't need them! They're in Lot O, right near the stadium, a hot tailgating permitted area. I bought 'em for $20 each and will sell for best offer (Mid-Atlantic Office said $20 each was "face," but I see no pby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports
Lacrosse: Thank you - 16 years ago
The night before I hit the road for Baltimore seems like the right time to get out a few big thank yous. Class of '07 seniors, thank you for bringing the Cornell lacrosse program back where it belongs: in the national spotlight on Memorial Day weekend. Regardless of this weekend's results, this year's seniors will leave with a list of accomplishments that once was unimaginable. Four Ivy Leagueby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Re: Anyone walking to the game? Restaurants? - 16 years ago
CornellFanIs anyone walking to the stadium from their Inner Harbor area hotel? I heard the walk is about a mile-- so seems feasible (no traffic, no parking costs). Plus, you get to burn some calories from all that crap you eat in the stadium. Also, can anyone suggest any good restaurants in the Inner Harbor area. Thanks. The Inner Harbor to M&T Bank Stadium route is quite walkable. I'by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports
Re: Lax Final Four Tickets - 16 years ago
I also got a call last night from the ticket office explaining that they had run out of tickets by the time they got to my spot on the list. I already have tickets that I purchased from the Ravens earlier this spring (upper level first row at about the 15 yard line or so), but I was trying to buy more for friends and family.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Re: NCAA lax backets - easier path to title game - 17 years ago
I don't recall anyone saying Cornell had an easy path to the championship. I still maintain that Cornell's path to the final four offered a more favorable menu of likely match-ups for Cornell than the paths offered to the top three seeds.by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Cornell v. Albany (pre-game) - 17 years ago
A Seibald update: I believe this is the first public acknowledgement of the nature of his offseason injury. You can make a case that the 2007 team's greatest strength is its adaptability. You can't cope with an injury to a pivotal starter without depth and great coaching -- two things that Cornell has in abundance. You saw how well they coped with Clayton's injury. A Seibald injury is fby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

KP '06Hillel HoffmannJosh '99Is anyone else getting the impression that this Queener guy is the type we'd LOVE to heckle in a hockey game? Yup, but he is just the kind of guy who eats that up. Al DeFlorioDonna DiTota on Seibald in today's Post-Standard: I don't like the sound of that at all. Makes me think that the goal of the smokescreening to date has been to create an artificial sense of optimism so Albany will be forced to prepare for Seibald (I had been assuming it was more likely to be the opposite).by Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports
Scouting Albany - 17 years ago
The Cornell-Albany match-up is so freaking cool. Folks who haven't seen the Great Danes before are in for a treat. This could be the most entertaining Cornell lacrosse playoff game since the 1987 semifinal game against Syracuse at Rutgers. Let's hope it ends the same way. Even if Cornell loses, I'll be pulling for the Danes the rest of the way. I had a chance to cover Albany this year, and I admiby Hillel Hoffmann - Other Sports

There will be no Philadelphia TV event for the quarterfinal game at Princeton. Re: Quarterfinals at Princeton Roll Call - 17 years ago
Beeeej...which reminds me: any chance this thing will sell out? Should I be buying my block of tickets at least a few days in advance? Don't think so. When Princeton Stadium hosted the quarterfinals in 2005, there were tons of empty seats even though they only opened up one side of the stadium. (How depressing was that? Nick Rhinelander passes away - 17 years ago
This is old news, but I just learned about it this weekend. Nick Rhinelander, known to most people in the online college hockey fan community as "NTR," died in an auto accident last month. Despite being a native Bostonian, a Harvard alum and big Crimson hockey fan, he had many connections to the Ithaca community (he attended Johnson after graduating from Harvard) and from his college roby Hillel Hoffmann - Hockey
Re: Cornell v. Towson pre-game - 17 years ago
Scouting Towson It's hard to get a handle on Towson. They're erratic, and they've been hit by a bunch of semi-disclosed and partially healed injuries. On top of that, I've only seem 'em play twice in two years, so a big thanks goes out to M, a Baltimore County resident who follows Towson closely, for supplying most of the best stuff herein. Where to watch in Philadelphia - 17 years ago
We've found a Philadelphia viewing location (another one in the suburbs may be added soon). The Cornell Club of Greater Philadelphia is hosting a gathering to watch the Cornell-Towson playoff game this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Fox & Hounds Smokehouse and Tavern in Center City Philadelphia (1501 Spruce Street, 215-732-8610).
