Defensive POTW - 21 years ago
Well, USCHO's Defensive POTW is basically Goalie of the Week. As amazing as Lenny has been all season, he generally hasn't had the eye popping numbers that it usually takes to win awards. By which I mean save numbers. Yes, he has shutouts, but the shot totals are usually way down because of how good the team's defense. I haven't paid attention to this lately, but it's telling that through theby KeithK - Hockey

With all scores in, we're #3 in PWR, by virtue of a .0004 gap in RPI to Maine. providence is tied for 14th, but would lose the comparison to Denver.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: key 'cheer' - 21 years ago
I pretty much suck at hockey, but I have played at Lynah with a crowd and the band (Campus Hockey Tournament, '98). when I was on the ice I was able to totally forget that there were people in the arena. So I hardly think keys would affect someone who can actually play hockey. I see no problem at all with keys in a shutout. The whole point is taunting a team that you are beating (regardlessby KeithK - Hockey
Re: If the Season Ended Today: Thoughts on Regional Pairings - 21 years ago
Flipping a team from #4 to #3 seed is probably the best solution. And there's a lot of precedent for doing this. So I'd expect that would be the solution.by KeithK - Hockey

Well John, only you know if you're being a dick or not... Come on. We can all look at the sum of the evidence and decide. In Sam's case there are a lot of things that point to him being sincere. Do we know this? No. But we can say it's more likely than if Alan Iverson were doing public service messages about hard work and staying in school, foir example.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: #6 for Lenny - 21 years ago
All colege records include the RS, as far as I know. (Arthur?) Dryden's six shutouts came in '68 and were all in the RS. His 13 career included two in the postseason - one in the ECACs (SLU) and one in the NC$$'s (NoDak in '67).by KeithK - Hockey
Are the Koronis jerseys current? - 21 years ago
Judging from the pictures (and I think from what a friend who bought one said) the Koronis jerseys do not match the ones the team is currently wearing. The obvious difference is at the neckline. The road jersey has a white neckline and the home has a red one. We discussed this some time back (either on this baord or in person) and decided that this was the style from '96-'97 or so. Not sure whby KeithK - Hockey

Re: Passing Maine - 21 years ago
One thing that the RPI concerns bring up: we definitely will want to root for the all of the home teams in the first round of the ECAC playoffs. The last thing our RPI needs is to have Princeton come to town for a pair...by KeithK - Hockey
Re: 2/15 - 21 years ago
CC got four goals in a six minute span early in the third to turn around a goal deficit. That's why they're ranked #1 I guess.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Schafer Now Second-Reddest Coach - 21 years ago
Since we are now 15-2-1 with four games remaining, one more point will guarantee that we stay Red for the remainder of the season. Since we've been Red six days so far, we should end up with double digit red days for only the third time ever. The significance of the other two seasons this has happened is left as an excercise for the reader...by KeithK - Hockey

It's been a pretty good night on the out of town scoreboard: ECAC Dartmouth 3, Clarkson 1 Brown 5, Colgate 2 Vermont 3, St. Lawrence 1 Union 6, Princeton 2 Yale 5, RPI 3 Good scores Providence 2, Maine 2 UNH 1, Northeastern 1 BU 2, Lowell 1 Merrimack 6, BC 1 Bad scores Ferris 2, WMU 1 Miami 1, Ohio St. 0 In progress CC 3, St. Cloud 3 Minnesota 8, Wisconsin 1 Denver 1, NoDak 0by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Alumni Trustees Ballott - 21 years ago
I thikn I've voted before. But you're right, I never really know what the heck I'm voting for. Best you can do is look for activities/jobs that catch your attention (in a positive way hopefully). I'd say just write in a vote for yourself, but is it postage pre-paid?by KeithK - Hockey

Re: 2003-4 Schedule - 21 years ago
I'm a little disappointed that Bowling Green is on the schedule next year. BGSU was good once upon a time, but they've been mired at the bottom of the CCHA for a number of years now (11th place today) and probably will not be good next year. This may well mean we have to go there in '04. Starting off with a pair against WMU could be tough, since they will have played a month by then. But a goby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Where will we end up? - 21 years ago
Yes. I'll clarify by saying that IF we have a very high ranking (whatever that means exactly) it's likely that we will stay east. But there's no guarantee unless somehow we managed to move back up to #2 in the rankings.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
OK, I'll give back a bit on the fact that government spending goes back into the economy. So your GDP equation is not incorrect, at least in the Econ 102 sense (at least I think so - my macro class was in '91). The question is whether the cost on the private sector is equaled (or even exceeded) by the benefits to growth and economy spurred by the public sector. Taxes, etc. - 21 years ago
I don't know why I'm getting into this now (after 84 previous posts) but I have a little time to kill before work... Just about any system of taxation that isn't Robin Hood-Sherriff of Nottingham regressive will place a higher burden of taxation on the wealthy, in terms of amount. Few would argue that this is appropriate. The question is what level of taxation is fair and reasonable. This comby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Cornell at RPI 3-2 - 21 years ago
Agreed, BRA. Whether we are a hair behind or a hair ahead of CC or NoDak on 1/18 isn't very significant, considering that we've only played about half the season. It's nice to see us ranked high, but wondering what made us slip a place now is a little silly. Note; this comes from someone who is usually obsessed with the numbers (and admittedly was looking at them earlier )by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Age you gotta explain... - 21 years ago
I'll hazard a guess that the rink staff tried to toss him for throwing a hat on the ice after it looked like Bâby had a hat trick. Then I imagine he argued with them and they finally let him back in.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: little used Red players - 21 years ago
Seems to me that Schafer has tried to over-recruit a bit to fill the 18 skater slots available for each game. This accomplishes a couple of things. First, it provides depth. Hopefully we won't have to worry about a situation like the end of '98 when it seemed that everyone on the team was hurt and caoch couldn't put 12 (or even 11) forwards on the ice. Second, the extra players provide competby KeithK - Hockey
Morris - 21 years ago
It may well be that the Clarkson administration has wanted to get rid of Morris for some time. But if the statements are true - and there are (reportedly) an awful lot for them to all be falsified - then Morris just handed them a reason on a silver platter. If a player took a run at his coach as Morris contends and the coach lost his temper and popped the kid once I'd think maybe he could get oby KeithK - Hockey
WMU - FSU distance - 21 years ago
According to MapQuest, Ferris State (Big Rapids, MI) and Western Michigan (Kalamazoo, MI) are about 107 miles or 1:50 apart. The schools in the CCHA aren't as far apart as the western folks make out, at least once you throw out Fairbanks and Nebraska Omaha. Everyone else is in Ohio (3) or Michigan (6). Oh, there's also Notre Dame. Of course, it's no Hockey East...by KeithK - Hockey

North Country?: What to do - 21 years ago
Try to stay in one of the name brand hotels if you can. We got a reservation at one of the little motels one year. When we showed up, the clueless and unfriendly woman at the desk basically said, "Sorry we don't have your reservation and we're full. Good bye." This on a pleasant 5 degree Januray night in Potsdam. So we ended up crashing with people who'd had the sense to make reservby KeithK - Hockey
