Harvard rivalry - 21 years ago
The rivalry most certainly didn't start with the Cantabs beating us 10 years in a row, late 80's to mid 90's. Harvard was the original hockey rival, dating back to the 60's. I can't speak definitively about the origins but it probably had a lot to do at the time with the fact that Harvard was the king of Ivy hockey when the program started up again in '57. Making fun of names - 21 years ago

Re: Poll Position - 21 years ago
I agree with you Greg. NoDak won't be penalized for their loss since SCSU is ranked (#15) and the Sioux had players suspended for that game (fallout from the Yale brawl). the tie won't be held against Michigan too much. Minnesota is way too far "ahead"to worry about and BU won. CC might jump ahead but their games were in Colorado against a (now) 1-5-2 team so they won't get to muchby KeithK - Hockey

Re: 2003 NCAA Tickets - 21 years ago
There will likely be plenty of tickets available come March, esp. if we get lucky and some of the usual suspects have bad seasons or get upset in the first round. Check eBay, or look here and at USCHO.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: [OT] Summertime fun - 21 years ago
One simple suggestion for you - Intro Ice Hockey in the fall. I'd never played any hockey before Cornell but took the class after deciding that I just had to learn to play since I was becoming such a fanatic. Ended up taking hockey class for four semesters (two intro, two intermediate) and it was a great time. Nothing like playing hockey in Lynah... Of course, I had a grad student schedule (orby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Caron - 22 years ago
Well, I can think o two good reasons why Caron might've gone to UNH for a year. One - he might not have known exactly what he wanted, and the chance to play on a national contender like UNH must be enticing. Two - he might not have gotten into Yale or Dartmouth (or wherever) last year but is able to make the cut after a year at UNH with solid grades. Also remember, just because one guy at UNH dby KeithK - Hockey
Lineage - 22 years ago
No, not really like the Cleveland Browns, at least according to the offical NFL line. According to the league, the Cleveland Browns franchise never left for Baltimore. They just lost all of their players to a new Baltimore franchise, stopped playing for a couple seasons and had a replenishment draft when they began play again. I'm not really joking here. This was part of the final agreement wby KeithK - Hockey
Re: My brain hurts... - 22 years ago
Interesting programming problem, but... Seems to me the easiest way to do it is to just write a script to preprocess the goals from each game as a block and then store the nxm numbers in the DB. That way you could step through the entire game but would only do it once and never real time.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: General admission - 22 years ago
Do you really think you'd have to get to Lynah 2 hours in advance to get in if they went to GA for the student sections? Yes, that's how it was once upon a time but I don't think it would happen today, even if we get back to being aan annual Final Four type team. Yes, the prime seats might go early, but 2 hours? When there was GA by section in the mid 90's I could get seats that were as good asby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Hockey computer virus? - 22 years ago
Interesting that you should bring this up. For months now I've been getting emails periodically that look like they could be viruses. Some semi-random subject line and short message body plus an attachment. They come from various and sundry people. The reason I bring this up here is that the only senders I've recognized were Cornell hockey related. Also, someone I know through hockey got a siby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Syracuse... hockey?! - 22 years ago
Well, cutting wrestling was much more likely a gender issue with the funding bit used as window dressing (I'm speaking NCAA generalities here - I don't know for sure at Syracuse). But I remember there was an effort on campus within the past few years to upgrade the club team and they barely got so much much as one second of attention from the administration. Or at least that's what I remember fby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Ivy tiebreaker - 22 years ago
All tiebreakers based on stats and minutia are terrible. Things should be decided on the field. If you don't play a tiebreaking game then everything is equally bad. Note: Tiebreakers in the NFL can make it a coin toss...by KeithK - Hockey

commitments - 22 years ago
Being drafted doesn't imply any commitment to play for the drafting team. In fact, one can be drafted involuntarily. It simply means that the player can only sign with that NHL franchise (or affiliated teams in minor leagues).by KeithK - Hockey

Re: Dougie not a finalist - 22 years ago
Haydar and Hartigan have 75 and 76 points. While we all know there's more to hockey than points did anyone actually think Murray would win with 32? Thee things usually go by the numbers, esp. when the disparity is so large. Still, being a Finalist is a pretty big honor. And I still consider Doug a finalist, even if he's not one of the final-finalists.by KeithK - Hockey

Re: SCSU was screwed - 22 years ago
The officials made the right called based on the rule. But the rule is IMO too strict. The NHL rule that allows the ref discretion to say that the player had no affect on the play is better.by KeithK - Hockey

Re: NCAA tournament results - 22 years ago
Now that's funny. As it should be probably, though it probably seems like a lot of effort to move all their stuff around the rink. Stupid thing is, once CC beat MSU I almost feel like I ought to root for Michigan just to keep the WCHA folks from getting swollen heads. Or rather, to keep their already swollen heads from exploding.by KeithK - Hockey

Re: NCAA seeding consequences of a win over Hahvahd - 22 years ago
Well, we shouldn't have predicted that a #3 seed would end up with a BU bracket because the other bracket would've had an expected UNH-Maine second round matchup, a replay of the HEA championship. The committee in past years had tried to avoid that situation and I think a BU-Maine matchup would've been preferable, leaving Cornell bracketed against UNH anyway (the theory being that a semi rematchby KeithK - Hockey
