Re: Ivy Title - 22 years ago
The issue with the ECAC is not what the tiebreakers are, it's how to apply them in crazy situations. For instance, in a four way tie, if in H2H tiebreaker Team A has 7 points, Team D has 5 and Teams B&C have 6 each, does Team A win the tiebreaker and recheck from the beginning with A-D? Does D lose and have A-C start over? Or does A win, D lose and B&C start over? And what do you do if tby KeithK - Hockey
Changing lyrics? - 22 years ago
Well, not all songs with lyrics changed to suit Cornell are lame... "Give my regards to Davy" is one that springs to mind...by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Ivy Magic Numbers - 22 years ago
Well, it's a lot easier looking at Ivy standings because the pesky tiebreaker problems go away since the Ivies don't bother breaking ties. Adn when there are only 7 games and 3^7 = 2187 possibilities left it's real easy to slap together a simple spreadsheet and Perl script to compute possibilities. My attempts at the ECAC tiebreakers haven't worked yet - I can never seem to wrap my mind around cby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Home Ice - 22 years ago
OK. I just spent waaaaay too much time on this, but whatever. In order for us to NOT get home ice, RPI or Union would have to catch us and have the Har,Clk,Dar,Col remain ahead of us. So I worked out some scenarios. In order for RPI or Union to finish ahead of us we would need to lose the remaining six and they would have to go 6-0-0 and get tiebreakers. 1) Can we finish 7th? That would requireby KeithK - Hockey
Playoff tickets - 22 years ago
Huh Jim? Are you telling me that they made you buy playoffs tickets as part of the season ticket package? I'm all for confidence, but that's a little much (although I suppose it could be convienent for some people...)by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Standings - 22 years ago
Well, only Union and RPI can catch us of those currently out of home ice and we have clinched at least a tie with both teams already. So one point will clinch home ice. But if we don't get that point and RPI or Union win the rest of their games they'll probably win the Top 5 tiebreaker so there's probably still a pathological set of circumstances that leaves us on the road. That said, it's probaby KeithK - Hockey
Ivy Magic Numbers - 22 years ago
The following are a set of Magic Numbers for Ivies, ala John Whelan's ECAC Nutshell page at slack.net. Of course, since there are no Ivy tiebreakers things are a little easier: Cor Dar Har Brn Yal Pri Cornell 13- 5-2 - 3 1 0 0 0 Dartmouth 9- 5-6 7 - 5 2 3 2 Harvard 9- 7-4 7 7 -by KeithK - Hockey

Hornby - 22 years ago
As Grady said about Hornby: he knows his role on this team is to dish out the hits but he was a solid goal scorer before Cornell and has offensive skills.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Where was SuperMom? - 22 years ago
The way I see it, if you're loud and demonstrative on the road you should expect to hear about it from the opposing team's fans. I have no problem with a little taunting of someone who is apparently so over the top supportive. Just like I expect to get yelled at when I'm on the road. As long as at least somewhat good-natured it's OK with me. (There are lines, however, and "suck my balls&quby KeithK - Hockey
1967 All Tournament Teams - 22 years ago
Does anyone happen to know who was on the '67 NC$$ All Tournament teams? I'm particularly interested in the second team (I've been asked to find this info for someone). Any info or rememberances would be appreciated.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Harvard vs. Northeastern - 22 years ago
Any non-conf win by an ECAC team helps us as a rule (except in comparisons against that ECAC team - not an issue this season). Likewise, wins by an opponent generally help our PWR through Opp Win% and, in this case, OppOpp Win% (since Harvard and Yale played BU too). While this effect is a good thing, we are neck and neck with BU in the comparisons so I suspect it may be in our best interest toby KeithK - Hockey
Re: goalies - 22 years ago
Right now I think it'd be hard to bench either guy based on their performances. If I were coach I think I'd stick with the rotation as long as neither guy shows any signs of slipping.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: 2/4/02 Polls - 22 years ago
I love the fact that the first place votes are so scattered in this week's poll. It's an indication that the field is wide open this year, with no clear favorite. Several perrenial favorites are down (e.g. last year's finalists) and everyone has stumbled at times. Makes it all more fun, IMO.by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Harvard vs. Northeastern - 22 years ago
Harvard's loss hurts our Opponents Win Pct stat, which is a component of RPI (anyone know the breakdown off hand). It also hurts our common opponents stat with Northeastern. That's about it. Oh, it also moves Harvard to 9-9-3 so if they lose more than they win from here on out they won't end up a TUC (which wouldn't be a total disaster since we did split).by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Pairwise Rankings - 22 years ago
The way we should be counting it, our last 16 record stands at 4-0-0. Twelve more games til the tournament, assuming all goes right in the post-season (and if it doesn't who cares about PWR?)by KeithK - Hockey
Re: Pairwise Rankings - 22 years ago
I think having RPI and Clarkson become TUCs tonight had the most to do with our jump. Beating Brown doesn't really help much since they are not a TUC. It may have helped Common opponents against someone (e.g. Lowell) but that didn't make much difference. In terms of other teams, the big things we need to root for in the ECAC stretch is for the near TUC teams that we've beaten to stay above orby KeithK - Hockey
Miracles for the CD - 22 years ago
My personal opinion, but I sure hope we don't need a miracle tomorrow night. Yes, that is a nice touch in the last one, but...by KeithK - Hockey
9-1-0 - 22 years ago
I used 9-1-0 as a relative extreme, a record down the stretch which I am pretty sure would do it. 8-2-0 might do it. 7-3-0 might even be good enough, though I haven't checked any numbers. You're right, 9-1-0 is a tall order (though not impossible - see '96 stretch run). 7-3-0 is a more reasonable expectation. A good finish by Brown, RPI and Clarkson (all teams we've beaten near near TUC statby KeithK - Hockey
Re: Clarkson Sucks Too - 22 years ago
If we were to go, for instance, 9-1-0 the rest of the way plus two QF wins and then split two in Placid (either way) I would bet that our PWR would be good enough for an at large bid. Obviously things depend on what other teams do and who ends up a TUC, but it seems likely. Not sure how many we could afford to lose though.by KeithK - Hockey
Strength of Schedule - 22 years ago
With the exception of the Beanpot games, all of the remaining games are ECAC games. So my question is, does it make any difference to our SOS who wins any of the remaining ECAC games? If Dartmouth goes 0-9-0 the rest of the way isn't that perfectly balanced by 9 wins and 0 losses for other teams? Isn't the SOS component of RPI linear like that?by KeithK - Hockey
Look and feel - 22 years ago
As soon as you wrote "Search works" I liked the new forum. I've missed that in CHDF ever since it stopped working after one of Kyle's rewrites. I agree with JTW about the fonts. Is there any way to make this user customizeable? (Aside from just overriding all fonts in your browser). Also having newer posts at the bottom will take some getting used to - somehow seems like the other wayby KeithK - Hockey
