little used Red players

Does anyone know what ever happened to Jan Pajerski or Scott Krahn? Why don't either of them ever play? Krahn isn't even listed on the roster anymore. Oh, and why hasn't Kelly Hughes played since the OSU game?Just wondering.

Krahn still goes to the games...i've seen him at most of the home games, and i think Pajerski goes too. i'm wondering myself why they dont play

There are a finite number of skaters you can dress for each game and the players in question do not compare to the freshman class who have taken their potential spots on the ice.

Seems to me that Schafer has tried to over-recruit a bit to fill the 18 skater slots available for each game. This accomplishes a couple of things. First, it provides depth. Hopefully we won't have to worry about a situation like the end of '98 when it seemed that everyone on the team was hurt and caoch couldn't put 12 (or even 11) forwards on the ice. Second, the extra players provide competition. Scott Garrow (ex-assistant coach under Schafer) told me once that they like to be able to bench players who weren't working hard enough. Pressure for playing time brings out the best in players, or so the theory goes.

What this means is you end up with a number of guys who don't play much and you typically see some drop off the team after freshman or sophomore year (or become permanent members of the practice team). Bad for the guys who get don't get much time to play, but probably good for the team.

Also, extra players adds a little bit of margin in recruiting. Maybe Kelly Hughes didn't pan out into a top player, but Ryan Vesce did. The more kids you bring in, the more likely it is to find a gem.
