Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 10 years ago
MattS Jeff Hopkins '82 I was frankly disappointed in the Cornell turnout. There was one small group of students. They were loud and active, but few in number. People barely come to home games anymore. To me, it all comes down to the athletics department administration taking the loyalty and fervor of the Lynah Faithful for granted, and they can't seem to wrap their heads around the idea thaby imafrshmn - Hockey

Mercyhurst takes the QF matchup, 3-2. Really hard-fought game by both teams. I feel for this Cornell women's team tremendously. Mercyhurst played very well, especially in winning pucks and slowing us down through the neutral zone. I'd be remiss to not mention the refereeing, which did seem to be a huge buzz-kill for the Big Red (I counted 2 clear non-calls of 'Hurst penalties and 1 questionable cby imafrshmn - Hockey

Jim Hyla Why, isn't it "fair use"? Seems about as fair to me as posting video clips of NBC's olympic coverage on youtube... but those clips get pulled down immediately, to say the least.by imafrshmn - Hockey

BMac I live in boston. Was at a bar in Harvard square last night with my (Cornellian) wife. I was describing the game because she hadn't gotten to see it. A lady next to us accosts us and says "devastating, wasn't it?" We get to taking. She says she's an assistant coach at Harvard, her boss is the clash for team USA, and some of her players are on the team. She asks how we bby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women - Olympic Hockey - 10 years ago
This was probably the most intensely competed women's hockey game I've seen. I think the ref did a reasonable job managing the game and keeping her penalty calling to a minimum. I think she used great discretion to not award Wickenheiser a penalty shot because she did not appear to have full control of the puck at the time of the hit. Great game, really, and the luck of both sides evened out in tby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Olympic Hockey GENERALLY - 10 years ago
Trotsky The jingoism is the worst part of the Olympic coverage. I wish our local Spanish affiliate was broadcasting the games since then we'd have the ambient sounds without the idiocy of the commentary. +1by imafrshmn - Hockey

RichH imafrshmn RichH Since I was standing in the row above the Cornell Pep Band, I had enough and shooed them away. I said something like "OK, that's enough guys. If you want a band to use as a prop, use your own." A couple took the bait and shouted back as they left the section, "We ARE the band!" to which I replied "That's debatable." Re: Russian Red Stars - 10 years ago
I love that the team captains had a gift exchange before the match... kind of like how little pennants are traditionally exchanged before an international soccer match. Kirill Gotovets was, understandably as a Russian speaker, getting lots of attention from some Red Stars after the game, which was interesting to see. The team took full advantage of their size and physicality tonight and really doby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2014 - 10 years ago
It was a rusty effort by the women tonight, especially in the first period. To use a sports cliche, they found a way to win. The top line of Fulton-Campbell-Saulnier were frustrated for the most part, and Brown goaltender Aubrey Moore made her share of saves to keep her team in the game. There were several defensive lapses that Brown failed to take much advantage of--a clear sign of an inferior oby imafrshmn - Hockey

KeithK imafrshmn lynah's small radius corners make the rink slightly larger than the standard nhl dimensions. Huh? How does that follow? Where are the length and width measured? I asumed from the boards in the middle of each side, which would mean the size of the corners would have no impact on length, just area. Am I wrong? Sorry. I meant larger in terms of areaby imafrshmn - Hockey

Swampy Josh '99 ScrewBUHarvardtoo Gilman let up 2 goals on 2 shots. If that's our future then we better win it all this year or else we're in troubleIf you're gonna rip the guy for his performance in an exhibition game at the start of his freshman year without waiting to see whether he settles in, you should at least get his name right. Trotsky jtn27 At the very least, everyone should bring fish posters. Same goes for those traveling to Lynah East. A crowd full of different fish posters would be far, far cooler than throwing fish, and lot more creative. Creative, yes. Cooler, perhaps. But more memorable? More intimidating? More outrageous? More likely to become a tradition? Actual fish on the actual ice. I'm not surprised tby imafrshmn - Hockey

Huge game coming up for the Red against Harvard on Friday... It's being promoted pretty heavily, they're giving away rally towels, and it's the only game in town. Cornell vs. Harvard has become a pretty fierce rivalry on the women's side in the past couple years. Some talk in the air about letting the fish fly for the first time at a women's game. sah67 What I wouldn't give for a great garbageman; indeed, with all the constant hand wringing over lacking snipers, I think we've had more snipers than garbagemen. To my mind, no point in the big slappah when there's no one there to pick up the rebound. Better yet, it'd be wonderful to have a great sniper who's also a great garbageman... Matt Moulson is the name that comes to mind.by imafrshmn - Hockey

dag14 Women beat a pesky RPI team 3-1. 2-0 after the first, an ugly second period where we survived only because RPI is chippy but otherwise inept. Stronger play in the third but all in all, not the best effort from our team. The RPI fans might argue about the officiating but my sense was that it was pretty bad both ways meaning inconsistent calls. Officiating seemed bad both ways to me asby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Dag, Ben, agree on all points. Clarkson is a tough team and Erica Howe is a first-rate goalie. Lauren Slebodnick came up huge for the Red, especially in the 3rd. Clarkson was able to keep our defenders honest up at the blue line... case in point was the 3-on-0 which resulted from a gamble by Poudrier to go for a puck in the neutral zone with no support behind her. Pretty damn satisfying win, andby imafrshmn - Hockey
