Re: Mankato cancels game? - 9 years ago
all 4 ECAC OOC games this weekend have been losses for league squads. BU won 5-1 at RPI. Game was a lot tighter than score indicates. Vermont won 2-0 at SLU. Minnesota State-Mankato vs. Princeton was cancelled due to flu. On friday, Vermont won 2-1 at SLU. MSU-Mankato won 5-0 over Princeton. On tap Sunday, Dartmouth hosts Sacred Heart and Clarkson travels to Michigan Stateby imafrshmn - Hockey

Four point weekend, with the hard-fought 4-2 win over a feisty St. Lawrence team! The Red played persistent hockey and had the better of the play, and got solid goaltending from Voorhees. The Saints also got good 'tending from senior Carmen MacDonald, who's been one of the ECAC's top goalies in the past several seasons. With this win, the Red move back to .500 overall and 5-2-0 in ECAC play, andby imafrshmn - Hockey

Most of the goals cleanly beat the (two) goaltender(s). Stunning performance by the Big Red, to be frank. I saw a number of players have the game of their careers--and none of them were Saulnier or Jenner (but those 2 shorthanded goals in quick succession were absolute killers). I think this is ample evidence that the past few weeks of practice have been highly productive. Could this team be deepby imafrshmn - Hockey

Really promising first period in this Tuesday nighter against Syracuse. Score is 1-0, on a rebound goal scored by Brianna Veerman. Although we gave up a few breakaways in on goalie Amelia Boughn, we controlled the majority of play and got better as it went along. They are doing a much better job than last night supporting the puck in the offensive zone and making good decisions with the puck. Annby imafrshmn - Hockey

1-1 to Mercyhurst in a game in which both teams looked rusty at times. More importantly, the Cornell squad maintained systems discipline--arguably their biggest weakness until this point. Unfortunately that meant very conservative offensive zone play tonight. It remains to be seen whether the defense will be able to (safely) play deep pucks, as had been the hallmark of Gagliardi/Cudmore/Fortino/Rby imafrshmn - Hockey

BearLover Jim Hyla BearLover Jim Hyla From today's USCHO article, an interesting quote. “I’m shocked,” said Cornell head coach Mike Schafer when asked about the play of his team’s young goalies. “Not having Joakim Ryan on the blue line and having all of those new defensemen to go along with two new goaltenders, then looking at our defensive performance leaves me shocked.” Read more: Andby imafrshmn - Hockey

Greenberg '97Random pep band question - after the game, as the crowd was filing out toward the Seventh Avenue exit, the horns were playing a simple march with a three-beat ending (coinciding with a "Let's Go Red" from the masses). Is this is a "thing?" I'd think in 20 years I'd have heard their entire repertoire. For Lynah rink games, after the Schafer Beer Victory Song haby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Attendance at Lynah - 9 years ago
Trotsky Kyle RoseSome of the phone call cheers I've heard at away arenas over the past few years put anything I've heard at Lynah over the past decade to shame. There is wit even among barbarians. I haven't spent enough time at Lynah in the last decade to know whether those clever, spontaneous jibes still happen, but those were also what made the building great to me. The cheers were fun anby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 Brown 0 - 9 years ago
Coach Whittet for Brown said after the game "We got manhandled by a much better hockey team." Manhandled, folks! That's a compliment to Cornell's style of play and bodes well, at least against the weaker teams.by imafrshmn - Hockey

Another disastrous third period against a top tier team. This Cornell team could be playing so much better. Not sure what the difference makers will have to be.by imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
Jill Saulnier's goals were both incredible. Her first one, to put the team up 4-1, came after a long shift working the puck in the o-zone and making a few good plays to keep it in. Then she had the energy to skate hard to the net on the far side and slammed home a one-timer in the slot. Her second one was just a few moments later where she started a breakaway onto the net from stripping a Brown pby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
Although I think the ultimate weakness right now is a lack of overall organization and effective coaching, their weaknesses in terms of personnel are the defensemen, relatively inexperienced, playing very tentatively and the better two-way forwards are being taxed heavily trying to cover up their mistakes. Goaltending has the potential to be decent but that, too, comes down to effective coaching.by imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
After first period vs Quinnipiac, down 3-0, it's obvious that this is not a great hockey team right now. They have a lot of bad habits on both ends of the ice, easily find themselves out of position, and can't get through the neutral zone with speed. The absence of Saulnier and Jenner to the Four Nations cup hurts, but I think Doug Derraugh's absence behind the bench, as he's also away with Teamby imafrshmn - Hockey

Trotsky Jeff Hopkins '82 My take-away: Union has scored on two straight penalty shots. When's the last time we scored on one? The last time we had an NHL Hall of Famer take one. There's something really weird going on in our history of missed penalty shots taken and conceded penalty shots from the opponents. Since 1965, we've taken 21 penalty shots and have scored on 4 of them...with the laby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
And BC pots 3 goals in fairly rapid fashion to take the game 6-2. Their speed, skill, and depth make them a tough opponent, especially for Game 1. They were able to maintain posession and get far more scoring chances than Cornell. It was an impressive show from BC, who look to be national title caliber. How can Cornell compete with the likes of BC strategically? Jenner, Saulnier, and Fulton lookeby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
It's now been decided that Brianne Jenner will serve as team captain! No surprise, of course, as she has always been a good role model. No word yet whether anyone will wear an A. BC will be a huge test for this team right out of the gate. I think it's a great motivator for the precious few practice days before the season begins, and this team will need to play with defensive discipline. Biggest qby imafrshmn - Hockey
