Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Ben dag14 The women get off to a slow start but beat St. Lawrence 6-0. Bizarre scoring situation in that game. The first goal, midway through the 2nd (which I couldn't see from Section B), was reviewed and called off, but still counted on the scoreboard, box score, and in the goal announcements. Whether she had two goals or one, it was another great game from Jenner. Campbell also looks more incby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: David Archer new head football coach - 11 years ago
Ken711 Interested to see what assistants David Archer keeps. I hope he at the very least brings in new coordinators for the offense and defense. I'm guessing it's easier, professionally, to clean house if you're coming in as an outsider. Politics, loyalties, and personal relationships could conceivably tie his hands a little...or at least make him feel as if that's the case.by imafrshmn - Other Sports
Re: David Archer new head football caoch - 11 years ago
maybe andy noel thought better of conducting a big-ass talent search a la kent austin in favor of keeping expectations nice and low (reasonable). sports are full of coaches saying they want to turn programs around, change teams' cultures (remember coach knowles's gimmickry?), but it's all grasping at straws in a zero sum game, because for every program that "turns around" for the betterby imafrshmn - Other Sports
Re: Bardreau to U.S. National Junior Team - 11 years ago
Rita Swampy Robb According to this guy, Bardreau seems to have locked up a spot on the 4th line. USA playing Sweden right now, 2-2 with 11:30 left in the 3rd. Video here: http://nutjob.eu/njtvx6.html. Good recap evaluation here. Our boy is near the top of the list! Chris Peters Cole Bardreau — F — Through the first period, Bardreau was Team USA’s best forward. He’s playing a grinder type oby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: The swim test - 11 years ago
My swim test happened on my move-in day. I remember being impressed by the size of the Teagle locker room... The row of urinals in there is remarkably long--even longer than the one in Barton, if I recall. My parents, god bless them, insisted on watching from the stands. The test itself was fine for me, and I don't think I witnessed anyone not make it. I don't believe in maintaining traditions juby imafrshmn - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Sucks rival shows how not to suck - free ECAC streaming now at three - 11 years ago
Trotsky Kyle RoseThis is not rocket science: as Yale has shown, this is a solved problem. This is really the heart of the situation. The remaining question is whether RedCast (and perhaps, by extension, Cornell) is stupid, crazy or malevolent. Stupid: They are doing the best they can, they're just incompetent. Crazy: They sincerely don't know they suck; they actually think the product meby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Hahvahd @ Cornell - 11 years ago
scoop85 Trotsky Another positive: even with the obvious frustration they didn't melt down, spend their time bitching to the refs, or go into Army of One mode. They kept playing within the system, kept their patience, and didn't take themselves out of the game with penalties. Yeah, it didn't lead to a comeback this time, but those are the conditions that at least allow comebacks. Excellent poiby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Cornell Women's Ice Hockey: February 2012 - 12 years ago
Pretty crazy game between SLU and Harvard. Harvard had the better of the play in general, and had several good scoring opportunities in overtime. SLU benefitted from good goaltending, feisty (but not pretty) defense, sloppy play, and (in no small measure) luck. The winning goal was a cunning, perfectly placed backhander, taking advantage of a slight moment of hesitation by H goalie Bellamy. Sby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women's Ice Hockey: February 2012 - 12 years ago
Harvard beat Princeton 4-3 in overtime today to advance. SLU took their series, beating Dartmouth 2-0. Clarkson and Quinnipiac is the only series to go to a game three, after Clarkson won 2-1. If Clarkson wins tomorrow, Cornell will play SLU in the semifinals; if Quinnipiac wins, Cornell will take on the Bobcats.by imafrshmn - Hockey

Beeeej I can't speak to Age's ultimate reasons for deactivating it, but I do know that it was being abused to target individual users. This is such a lame reason if true. Facebook has a "Like" button but no "Dislike" because heaven forbid if people are "attacked" or get their feelings hurt online for posting something. Does ELynah really need to be this way? Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
Weder For those who aren't clear about the "intent" thing, this is from the NCAA rulebook: "As there is a human factor involved in blowing the whistle to stop play, the referee may intend for the play to be stopped slightly before the whistle actually being blown. For example, the fact that the puck may come loose or cross the goal line before the sound of the whistle has no beaby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
ajh258 Chris '03 ajh258 Jim Hyla The simple fact is that the ref blew his whistle when the puck was on the goalies shoulder, a fraction of a sec. before it crossed the goal line. It was clear on the overhead replay. Edit: Slowposting on my iPhone.Well, the jumbotron didn't have speakers and it's still the referees' human error to assume that it was a dead puck when it was not. The ref is sby imafrshmn - Hockey
Re: Not a goal? - 12 years ago
jtwcornell91 They showed a replay on MSG from the overhead camera in real time with sound. You can hear the whistle blow a split-second before the puck hits the goalie in the shoulder. So "no goal" was the right call on the replay, unfortunately. Also, the explanation from the announcer was that it wasn't even relevant exactly when the whistle was heard, because the ref had alreadyby imafrshmn - Hockey

Re: Women 2011-12 Main Thread - 12 years ago
After 2 periods, cornell leads 2-1. The big story right now is the physicality and bad refereeing. A secondary story is cornell not capitalizing on its chances, and they've had plenty of good ones. Having watched almost all of their games this year so far, this is their most passionate effort. In the first period, BU was able to match our speed for the most part, but it's evident that many ofby imafrshmn - Hockey
