Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Ticket prices - 19 years ago
I can't speak for the student tickets, but the notice I received from the ticket office states that money will "automatically" be refunded if there aren't any home playoff games. And, I think the total price for 2 Section C tickets is actually a little lower this year (I assumed that there are fewer home games this season).by Anne 85 - Hockey

According to the Leafs site, Joe was playing hurt in game 1 and eventually took himself out. Seems likely that his back is acting up again (but that's pure speculation).by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Who's Going to the Frozen Four? - 20 years ago
As much as I would love to see Nieuwendyk play in Boston, I'd prefer that the Maple Leafs and Bruins meet up later in the playoffs. Otherwise, one of my two favorite teams will get knocked out in the first round. Of course, with the tight playoff race this year, a lot can happen in the last few games of the season.by Anne 85 - Hockey

Re: Vote for David McKee - 20 years ago
McKee might get more votes if they pointed out how many games he's played. It would be easy to look at his GAA and assume that the stat is inflated because he's platooning with a more experienced goalie.by Anne 85 - Hockey

Re: i2sports for the Colgate game - 20 years ago
Regarding quality, I think you're both right. I like the camera angles and the pictures keep moving (unlike the Cornell broadcasts, which sometimes stall). But, the resolution leaves something to be desired (a little like the camera is under water). And then there are the announcers...by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Brown - 20 years ago
Vesce is certainly one of my favorite players -- he's smart, fun to watch, and provides more "bang for the buck" than most would expect from a player his size. However, I think Chris Abbott has been demonstrating some prowess in winning faceoffs. In fact, I have occasionally noticed him out there when I would have expected Vesce to take the draw. Perhaps this is a reflection of Coaby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Lance Nethery's name in the rafters - 20 years ago
One of my fondest hockey memories -- we were driving back from the 1983 Lynah East game (after being snowed in and before totalling our rental car in Central Bridge on my 20th birthday), and spinning the dial listening for hockey we picked up the Hershey Bears. About a minute later, we heard Lance Nethery's name -- and he scored.by Anne 85 - Hockey

Ah Greg, Given the fact that I have your tickets (Brown AND Harvard), you might want to re-consider your football allegiance... Anne Go Red! Go Pats!by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: FISH - 20 years ago
Personally, I've always liked the fish tradition (but not the accompanying smell). However, I don't think it's appropriate to throw fish AT the players. On the ice, yes. Right in front of them (if you can do it), yes. But hitting someone in the head with a fish is just disgusting and rude. If the coach and Athletics feel this way as well, we may be seeing another case of a few individualby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Afterglows - 20 years ago
If you want a schedule for the Afterglows, you should contact the CHA. There is contact information in "Faceoff!" They seem to schedule about one per month, and they aren't generally held during breaks, intersession, or one-game weekends. And, as Beeeej has pointed out, they are announced during the game. They used to put a sign on the Zamboni (or is it the Roby Steamer) as well, buby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Hahvahd - 20 years ago
FYI, in the past Harvard has sold standing room tickets. I'm not sure whether they're still doing that. Also, depending on the current policy for student tickets, some unclaimed student tickets may become available shortly before the game. On a separate but related note, Harvard appears to be actively promoting its sports programs this year. I have seen a TV ad for Harvard football (!) on aby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: USCHO Polls 11/10 - 20 years ago
Harvard didn't play any non-exhibition games before starting their ECAC schedule? No wonder they were rusty against Brown (although Brown may not have played any non-exhibition games either). Post Edited (11-11-03 09:47)by Anne 85 - Hockey

Re: A New Lynah - 20 years ago
Can anyone remind me why the second and third goals were disallowed in that Princeton game? I'm sure I was at the game, but the old memory banks don't always work the way they should. They sure looked good to me. Post Edited (10-17-03 01:11)by Anne 85 - Hockey

My least favorite Halloween candy was the kind that looks like small brown hockey pucks, with white stuff in the middle. Oh, and black licorice. NECCO wafers were pretty low on the list as well.by Anne 85 - Hockey

Did the box office gentleman say anything about standing-room tickets?by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: screw BU! - 20 years ago
As for kicking off the season, you could say that the ticket line marks the start of hockey season. Also, every year the CHA hosts a "Welcome Back" picnic. This year it will be held on Oct 5. I think it's a pot-luck event. I'm sure you can get more information directly from the CHA.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Paolini Skating With Cornell - 20 years ago
John, FYI, there is a discrepancy in Sam's stats between db.elynah.com and TBRW/USCHO (and last year's program). The former lists Sam as playing 3 games (no points) his freshman year, and the latter list 12 games (5 points). I suspect the 12-game stats are correct, in part because I do remember Sam playing during his freshman year, and 3 games probably wouldn't have made an impression onby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Paolini Skating With Cornell - 20 years ago
What makes you think Sam was red-shirted? The sources I've checked list him as playing as many as 12 games his freshman year. Post Edited (09-20-03 15:27)by Anne 85 - Hockey

Re: No kids in Lynah? - 20 years ago
I don't remember Edward's exact age. I'd guess he was about 4 last season (Chris, correct me if you have a better guess) -- he is ambulatory, but not very talkative (he's shy). Edward and his parents usually come to at least one game per home weekend, and we've been seeing him since he was a baby. I understand he's already learning how to skate, and he joined the team and the other fans on tby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: No kids in Lynah? - 20 years ago
I would think it's a liability issue. Very young kids who aren't paying attention to the action on the ice may be more vulnerable to "objects leaving the playing surface." Plus, think of the damage a big old puck could do to a small, fragile noggin. But whatever the rule is (if in fact there is one), I hope it doesn't keep young Edward, a loyal member of Section C, away from the gameby Anne 85 - Hockey
