Re: Nieuwendyk signs w/ Toronto - 20 years ago
The Leafs site has added some info about Joe, including a nice player profile (although it doesn't mention Cornell).by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Nieuwendyk signs w/ Toronto - 20 years ago
That's excellent! It might be time to get another jersey -- gotta love the classic maple leaf. Wonder if he'll be able to keep #25?by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Ticket Line Procedures - 20 years ago
Any word on when the single ticket games will go on sale?? Oct 15by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: OK, What the Hell Happened to My Circumflexes? - 20 years ago
Sorry, BRA, but I thought Greg's explanation would do. Here's a version for the Underdog-impaired. In one episode, Underdog has trouble saving the day, criminals run rampant, and Sweet Polly Purebread is endangered because, as he repeatedly says: "When I stand up I'm right as rain But when I bend over, there's a stabbing pain." Warning, spoiler ahead. As it turns out, someone has drby Anne 85 - Hockey

If I hadn't been away on vacation, the Underdog points would have been mine...mine...mine!!by Anne 85 - Hockey

Re: FF4 '04 - 20 years ago
I've never applied before, and I received a "Congratulations!" postcard a few days ago. Of course, it wasn't on last month's credit card statement, so it could still be an error or a cruel joke.by Anne 85 - Hockey

I agree that the green knight is a bit confusing, but I rather like the "secondary logo mark."by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: [OT] Direct mail weirdness - 21 years ago
No explanation here, but I received Andrew Salvador's NCAA Publications catalog. The street address is mine, and under the name it says "3/30Phone W/Nellie." As far as I know, I've never met Andrew or Nellie and we've certainly never been roomies.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Dead (or Zombie) Cheers - 21 years ago
Sorry, I have to say that I think that playing the Hey Bâby song for Hornby is perfectly appropriate. Yes, it loses a degree of cleverness when the player's name isn't actually in the lyrics, but it's a catchy tune and a blast to sing. And, the words of the cheer part are MUCH more applicable to Hornby than Bâby (or his mom). The Austin Powers thing is kinda cute, but it's not reby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: ESPN.Com mention - 21 years ago
Also a discussion with Bob Norton regarding the teams in the frozen four, including replays from the CU/BC game, on ESPN News (6:00 show). Post Edited (03-30-03 18:31)by Anne 85 - Hockey
Favorite between-period entertainment? - 21 years ago
I thought this would be a good time for a "nostalgia" topic -- it's a bye week, the polls have already come out, and I, for one, am tired of the "what-if" game. Anyway, I was wondering about interesting between-period events that people have seen at hockey games -- both at Lynah and at other venues. For me, some highlights include: -- the giant sling-shot they had at RPIby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Most likely upset this weekend - 21 years ago
Sorry, Beth, but flagellate is a verb that means to "whip, scourge, flog, or lash" -- Random House College Dictionary. Editor....couldn't resistby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Interesting hockey poll in the Sun - 21 years ago
Actually, "goddam" is in the dictionary, although the preferred spelling is "goddamn." Of all of the gaffes listed above, "chizzled" is the most bothersome to me because it indicates that the writer, and presumably the editors, couldn't even be bothered to run a spellcheck. That's just lazy.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Du Gamla Du Fria - 21 years ago
I noticed 2 Swedish flags at the rink during the most recent home weekend. One was at the bottom of Section N (or thereabouts) and one was somewhere behind the goal (Section F?). I guess I missed the one in Section K (sorry Toni).by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 Harvard 3 FINAL - 21 years ago
According to the Harvard program, #4 is "the retired number of former Crimson skater, hockey coach, and Director of Athletics Bill Cleary...the only number -- of any of Harvard's 41 varsity sports -- ever to be taken out of circulation." Bleh.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Harvard Roll Call (2/15) - 21 years ago
I'm willing to bet if you offered $20 to a kid in a Harvard shirt approaching the rink, he/she would gladly hand over a ticket. Warning: This might not work. According to the guy at the Harvard ticket office, if you have a student ticket you need to show a student ID. If this is correct, the student would need to hand over his/her ticket and ID, which might cost more than $20.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Harvard Roll Call (2/15) - 21 years ago
FWIW, I talked to a guy at the Brown ticket office this morning. He's been getting a lot of calls from Cornell fans, and he's betting that the game this Friday will sell out. I didn't ask how many tickets are left at the moment, and I'll believe it when I see it, but I thought I'd pass along the information.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Moulson, PLAYER OF THE WEEK - 21 years ago
Ryan Vesce also had a goal and four assists -- all but one assist were against Dartmouth.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: (OT) Famous Alums - 21 years ago
What about that former ESPN guy? Keith something. Or Kevin something?by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Vermont 1 @ Cornell 8 - FINAL - 21 years ago
FWIW, I thought a Cornellian put the puck in the net on the 3rd goal. Of course, I also thought there was a Cornellian on top of the goalie for that one (but he might have been held there by a gentleman in green and yellow).by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Afterglows... - 21 years ago
There was a CHA reception (as they are now called) after the SLU game. I'm not sure what the schedule is for the rest of the season, but I wouldn't be too surprised to hear that the next one will be held after the last home game of the RS.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Nieuwy Countdowns #2 and #3 - 21 years ago
In case anyone is wondering (as I was), Nieuwendyk's stats when you include the playoffs are: G = 559 A = 534 Pts = 1093 PIM = 658 He has been playing in the NHL since the spring of '87.by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Colgate 0 at Cornell 2, 3rd - 21 years ago
Nice to hear the band play "fight, maim, kill"by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Nieuwy Countdowns #2 and #3 - 21 years ago
I never get this right. Do these stats include the playoffs or just the RS?by Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Bertagna column - 21 years ago
This guy knows how it's supposed to be done: students will still hold up copies of the Cornell Daily Sun during the recitation of the opposing team's starting lineup and then toss the crumpled paper on the ice as the Big Red get introduced The key is as the Big Red get introduced . But, just as it's impossible to trump sound with silence, you can't keep all of those papers from hittingby Anne 85 - Hockey
Re: Spencer Penrose Award - 21 years ago
Tim Taylor is "exceeding expectations"?? I have never understood why, but he is generally highly regarded, so you'd think he would be left off the list as well. And Dartmouth is at .500 -- which is pretty much where I'd expect them to be. But they're certainly entitled to their opinions....by Anne 85 - Hockey
