Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Bracketology 2019 - 5 years ago
upprdeck basically the higher we want to finish the more we want bad teams to win and our margin of error gets slimmer. We wind up seventh with chalk and a single upset of Harvard over Clarkson.by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019 Achievements (Team and Individual) - 5 years ago
redice upprdeck for all the complaining i dont know why they dont reduce goalie pads to just what is needed for safety. Same with the glove. I agree!! You would see the Dryden-like stats disappear, probably forever. Just playing devil's advocate here, but isn't it possible that to some extent the bigger goalie pads are offsetting the advances made in stick design? I would have to think thatby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology 2019 - 5 years ago
Dafatone Root for Clarkson over Harvard, I realize that the post I am quoting is talking about what it takes to make sure we get into the tourney. But if we prefer to root for the things that get is as high as possible in the pairwise, I believe we need to root for Harvard (ouch) over Clarkson. Re: ECAC QF Game 3: Cornell 4 Union 2 - 5 years ago
upprdeck not sure how to complain about the refs. penalties were almost even. they really let the game get out of control late though with union really taking liberty with stuff the last 5-10 min. I'd say the embellishment call is, perhaps, the one against Union that the refs didn't have to call. But there were so many little BS "goonery" things that went uncalled against Union thatby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid 2019 Roll Call - 5 years ago
Trotsky Beeeej Can't do it this year, but will be watching our semifinal wherever it's streaming. (...which, according to Cornell, will be on Saturday...?! )Sorry we'll miss you. Guess Cornell will just need to get themselves to Buffalo! I'm OK with that.by andyw2100 - Hockey

Re: ECAC SF Lake Placid: Brown vs. Cornell - 5 years ago
Trotsky Per Anne, Section 24 is being sold as "General Admission." We bought seats in 24 right after the game, from the Cornell box office. They were selling actual seats in 24, and marking the sold seats on a seating chart. The two people in the two windows were coordinating with one person who had the actual tickets, and a third map, and all three maps were being kept in sync. Sby andyw2100 - Hockey

Trotsky KenP Congrats to andyw2100 for starting two successful game threads!I officially retire. To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. Jeff Hopkins '82 BMac Andyw why don’t you go ahead and make the game thread for the SF now, hmm? +1 Done!by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Women's NCAA QF vs Norteastern - 5 years ago
Weder Frechette's goal was No. 8 on SportsCenter's top 10, though they didn't really have anything useful to say about it. Give them a little credit. The guy correctly noted that it was, in fact, "a goal."by andyw2100 - Hockey

Trotsky andyw2100Anyone know why Topher Scott isn't doing the color commentary?I know if was mentioned during the season that the RS was his last broadcast, so it was planned anyway. Just watched the highlights from last night's game. (Game 2.) That certainly sounded like Topher doing the color commentary. It was, right?by andyw2100 - Hockey

Re: ECAC QF Game 2: Cornell 4 Union 0 - 5 years ago
Late in the game, during Cornell's last powerplay, I thought we had scored and that the puck had just popped out of the net quickly. I was sure the refs would check at the next stoppage, but the next stoppage was the end of the game. That's the far end of the rink for me, but even so, I can usually hear a pipe, and I didn't. I tried to find last night's game on ESPN+ just now, but it's not yet inby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: CHN Screwiness - 5 years ago
adamw as for the OT thing - as I tell about 10 twitterers a night - we're at the mercy of whatever data the random interns working at each arena send through. I didn't mean it as a knock, Adam. I really like the CHN app, and use it all the time. I just thought the 5-2 OT win was amusing.by andyw2100 - Hockey
CHN Screwiness - 5 years ago
CHN has been kind of screwy the last two days. Based on the end of game notifications I receive, apparently tonight Clarkson kicked a field goal to end the game.by andyw2100 - Hockey
ECAC QF Game 3: Cornell 4 Union 2 - 5 years ago
Trotsky andyw2100 Trotsky Somebody else please do the game threads from now on. I have a shitty record. Not promising to start all of them, but if this works, I'll start the next one. It worked. Yes it did. Hence this thread.by andyw2100 - Hockey

Re: ECAC QF Game 1: Union 3 Cornell 2 - 5 years ago
BearLover Puck was literally sitting on the Union goal line or Union crease on three separate occasions at least. On that note, there was one that was cleared off the goal line (or out of the goal?) by a Union player. It was reviewed at the next stoppage, which was several minutes later. The refs returned to the ice, ruling no-goal very, very quickly--probably in under a minute, and possibly uby andyw2100 - Hockey

From the "Game Notes" for tonight's game: -- The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ in the U.S. with Grady Whittenburg on play-by-play and Will LeBlond providing color commentary." -- Anyone know why Topher Scott isn't doing the color commentary?by andyw2100 - Hockey

upprdeck i get some of the convenience. but often i dont have access to a printer that works and really dont like having to drag a cell phone around. I like tickets, it makes me feel like i am getting and going to something.. paper tickets an QR codes just dont feel the same. You can have the ticket office print your tickets for you. I know they will do a single game, and I expect if you wanteby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019 ECAC QF - 5 years ago
upprdeck i was told the revenue goes to the league.. that doesnt mean the school doesnt get something to offset cost to host, or for travel by the schools, but it might be a set amount Fair enough. So perhaps the reason to include the playoff tickets has to do with simplifying the sale process more than anything else, and, of course, the revenue from unreturned third-game tickets, as I imagiby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019 ECAC QF - 5 years ago
upprdeck i thought it was still a choice? but in looking at whats available perhaps it wasnt. the money doesnt go to the school anyway, so not sure why the change was made other than making it easier on their end and less work to do this week. It's been at least a couple of years since they made the change. And I know that the ECAC sets the price of the ticket, but are you sure all theby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019 ECAC QF - 5 years ago
upprdeck I would expect Avg crowd friday, better crowd sat, and empty on sunday if the usual plays out. At some point in the last few years the ticket office changed from selling the playoff series separately, as an option for season-ticket holders, to including it in the season ticket packages. That should help with attendance.by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019 ECAC F Women: #1 Cornell vs #2 Clarkson - 5 years ago
imafrshmn The NCAA tournament bracket has just been announced, and it will be exactly as anticipated. On to Northeastern for the quarterfinals! With some upsets, Cornell could get a rematch with Princeton in the semis, and with Clarkson for the championship. Wouldn't that be nice!by andyw2100 - Hockey

Re: 2019 ECAC 1R - 5 years ago
imafrshmn Although neither camera angle is definitive, the video does prove it's offside when you piece together the two angles. But alas, referees are not expected or supposed to be doing this, right? It was definitely close. I'm not sure what they are supposed to do, but all four officials spent a good amount of time looking at it. Both Scoop85 and I thought it looked offside from the first rby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019 ECAC 1R - 5 years ago
andyw2100 Check out the attached image. You can just see part of the puck, still not completely across the line. (It's the black dot just below where the player's jersey ends.) The other player is clearly across the line. Very close, but I think Princeton got robbed! OK. Now I've made a video:by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019 ECAC 1R - 5 years ago
andyw2100 scoop85Brown possible winning goal under review, likely for a possible offsides; last replay they showed seems to be offsides. I also thought it looked offside, even though the announcers thought it wasn't. I'd like to see a still image of that one. Check out the attached image. imafrshmn Here is a pairwise calculator. Cornell can only get the 4th spot if they win the ECAC Championship Game (vs. either Colgate or Clarkson) AND win Hockey East. Thanks!by andyw2100 - Hockey
