For anyone going and not buying tickets from CU, CU is selling tickeyts in Sec 24.

Here's the LP ticket link.

One slight irritation: the women's NC$$ SF will be simultaneous with the men's ECAC SF.

A win is a win, but given how we've played this second half + home games against Union, and how Brown is red hot, our chances don't look great...

Union is a very good team and we looked better than them all three games.

If we play a good game we should have a good shot against brown.

We bought seats in 24 right after the game, from the Cornell box office. They were selling actual seats in 24, and marking the sold seats on a seating chart. The two people in the two windows were coordinating with one person who had the actual tickets, and a third map, and all three maps were being kept in sync.

So I believe Anne's information is faulty.

I may have boggled the message. Or perhaps the ticket office sold her seats but told her "you get what you get."

Brown's a good team too. Won that crazy marathon against Princeton; then fought their way against QU coming from behind in the third (and a blocked empty net end of 2nd). Brown making Lake Placid this year isn't a fluke - they capitalized on opportunities when it counted these past 2 weeks. We've all watched enough hockey and sports to know how hot teams in post season is the most deadly...

Sure. Anything can happen and Brown's playing well. I just wanted to point out that Union's 7 seed undersold how good they are, and that taking two of three from them isn't an easy feat, even at home.

So anyone have a view whether meeting Brown on Olympic ice favors or disfavors Cornell? The old thinking when Cornell was big and bruising was the extra surface was a disadvantage. Is Cornell now built to take advantage of the ice vs Brown? Or is the regulation vs Olympic debate overblown?

Brown might be the hot new thing, but Cornell looked good this weekend against a better team than Brown. And if Bauld, Green, and Betts are finding their game and building confidence, the team may have found another gear.

Probably overblown and probably to our advantage in terms of style.

But I hate change so I don't like it at all. Similarly, I hate that matching minors result in a 4x4 (I know it would be a mess for getting guys out of the box at the right time otherwise).

the first 2 nights could have just as easily been 5-1 type wins as a win and a loss. goalies cover up things some times.

first time in a long time we had a full roster and it showed. we controlled the 3rd period all 3 games

playoffstatus.com gives us a 63% chance of beating Brown and a 93% chance of making the tournament.

Assuming we have a 100% chance of making the tournament if we beat Brown, that means (.63 * 1.00) + (.37 * x) = .93, where x is the likelihood of making the tournament if we lose to Brown.

Therefore, x = (.93 - .63) / .37 = .30 / .37 = .81

An 81% chance of making the tournament if we lose to Brown.

Edit: LOL, they did the math here. Least I can still divide.

Their cut-line is top-15. That's way too lenient.

But they only give the BU+BC total chance at 19% of one of them making it and stealing a spot. Given that they are two of the four Hockey East finalists, I'd say that's an underestimate.

Their cut-line is top-15. That's way too lenient.

It comes from their assessment of the remaining line movers:

.44 Penn State
.14 Brown
.12 BU x
.06 BC x
.05 WMU y
.03 CC y

where x's and y's are mutually exclusive (i.e., not independent trials)

So really what we have are 4 independent line movers by conference:

.44 Big10
.18 HE
.14 ECAC
.08 NCHC

I can't find a nice online calculator to do all the permutations. It does seem to me that the likelihood of 2+ hits from those 4 results would be over .50, thus moving the likely cut line to at least 14. But maybe that's not what they mean.

Edit: Oh, I get it. The line is 15 instead of 14 because Notre Dame is currently 15. The lion's share of the line mover is Pedo State, and if they win Notre Dame drops out.

So the line is correct at 15. Go figure. The ND-PSU game is meaningless for everybody else's chances.

the brackets were reseeded so people moved to where the belong based on that.

We know we need to be in the top 14 with the b10 and the atlantic getting bids. after that how many other teams steal a bid.

Really need to route for the big boys to come through in the other conf to increase our margin

But if we lose to brown that also means they could steal one..

clarson beating Harvard helps too.

We also bought right after the game and were able to pick seats. However my email says GA and I'm at work, so I can't check my tickets. When I tried to buy from CU online just now they said "The Cornell allotment includes ALL-SESSION TICKETS ONLY in section 24. If purchasing online, tickets will be assigned best available in the section."

So I think the GA is just because they can't enter the seat numbers online, but you get exact seats.

We'll find out Friday.

Any of you pairwise guys know what our chances look like if we lose to Brown?

Leaving aside all the probabilities mentioned in other responses to your query, simply plugging in a Brown win shows us this:

Brown + Clarkson final = Cornell at #12
Brown + Harvard final = Cornell at #13

That's also leaving aside all the other conference tournament games that will be played this weekend, which will also have an effect on the math - and leaving aside the fact that Brown getting to the final increases by a non-zero amount the chance that a team not already in the top 15 wins the ECAC tournament. Obviously I like our chances better if we lose to Brown and they face Clarkson in the final, but I like our chances much better if we don't lose to Brown. cheer

Not going to bother with the math for us losing in the final - I think at this point with us in #11, the math very likely dictates that a semifinal win more or less locks us up for an at-large berth.

Just to finalize what I said before, I checked my tickets that I got from CU last night and they do show seat numbers. So the GA thing is likely just a computer/programming issue.

not sure that points at any big crowds up in lake placed.

A lot of the locals throughout the Adirondack region mostly identifies with Clarkson. If they wander in for the tournament, you’ll have a good chunk of people cheering for Tech, especially when they’re up there with three Ivies.

Cornell game notes

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ in the U.S. with Perry Laskaris on play-by-play and former Cornell captain and assistant coach Topher Scott '08 providing color commentary. The same production can be viewed by international viewers through a different platform via Stretch Internet. The game can also be heard on WHCU (870 AM, 97.7 FM) and worldwide via the station's website with 15th-year play-by-play man Jason Weinstein on the call and Grady Whittenburg providing commentary and interviews from rinkside.

The Big Red's sophomore class averages 1.34 goals per game, which is highest in ECAC Hockey and fourth-highest in the nation.

Senior forward Mitch Vanderlaan (10-18–28) ranks second on the team in overall scoring and third in assists. The Big Red's second-year captain is also the team's active leading scorer with 95 points in 128 collegiate games.

Freshman forward Michael Regush (11-3–14) scored nine of his goals in ECAC Hockey play, which tied for the most in the league among newcomers.

Cornell ranks sixth in the nation in team faceoff percentage (54.4%). The Big Red won 43 of 69 draws (62.3%) in last Saturday's Game 2 vs. Union — including a monster night from sophomore Kyle Betts, who was 19-2.
• Michael Regush (56.2%) and Max Andreev (55.6%) and both rank in the top 10 nationally among rookies. Senior Beau Starrett once again leads the Big Red in draws taken with a 55.9% success rate.

If you think of Brown as a team with the skating finesse of the 2014 Union team and us having defenders all with the speed of Douglas Murray in his final year with San Jose, then there's an added advantage of the wider rink for Brown. But this is a Brown that was 8-9-5 in ECAC play and 15-13-5 overall. They no longer have Yann Denis is goal. Cornell should win. Look, people all already talking about how overall #1 seed Duke will need make it out of its region. (Uh, basketball.)

Good points. Mike has been making changes in our approach that should be advantageous on the bigger ice. I'm looking for our speed and stick-handling finesse to help. We just can't lose concentration the way we did in Providence, even for 53 seconds.

it was interesting how many times Cornell was able to go wide on union last weekend. it didnt lead to goals but a ton of solid chances. other than than the 5 min collapse at brown we controlled them pretty good.. As coach said we were running on fumes that weekend. we had 1 period each game vs them where they got good chances.. need to limit that

These 5 minute collapses, are they due to personnel, preparation, or are they just the gods messing around?

Yes.

As upprdeck pointed out, Schafer explained it as the team being exhausted. Because of injuries he had been using fewer lines and few defenders. We're pretty healthy this weekend, and relatively rested, so shortage of personnel should not be too much of an issue.

I see that Andreev played in the series against Union, but I assume he is not 100%?

Game misconduct (not DQ), so not out for the next game.

(Yeah, what he said)

why did he get a major? did they actually rule contact to the head or just for interference?

Boxscore on CHN app says contact to the head for the penalty.

It's nice not to have to sweat it out at the end for a change.

Using Ticket-Cost / Minute-of-Hockey as a metric, I hope fans watching Clarkson and Harvard tonight have the Best. Game. Ever.

None that they showed at the rink. In fact, nobody had any idea why they were reviewing anything until they sent Malott off. And it was announced a "Contact to the Head" at the rink, but everyone pretty much thought it was a make-up call.

Apparently Galajda had an assist on the Barron (4th) goal:

Pretty sure the goal was not announced that way at the game.

I thought it was a good call. Malott may have made some contact with the chest on the hit, but he got a lot of the guy's head. ESPN's replay inexplicably doesn't show any of the replays they showed live, but he definitely made significant head contact.

looked to me like his skates might have left the ice too which would certainly tip towards the 5 major + ejection

I watched the ESPN replay a number of times. He definitely got the guy in the head. Yes, he also got the upper chest with his arm or elbow, but his shoulder landed a perfect uppercut to the chin.

OK, that's fair. As I said we didn't get any replays at the rink, and nobody had any idea what they were reviewing.
