A great bear from the past - 19 years ago
I originally posted this in the thread where the discussion started. But since that thread was titled something like "Most annoying fan at Lynah", and since the topic had drifted to talk of skating bears, I thought it appropriate to start a new thread. The original post has now been edited, and points to this thread. --AW JDeafv Wrote: Once when I was skating, I posed for a picby andyw2100 - Hockey

JDeafv Wrote: Once when I was skating, I posed for a picture for a fan, then the next week the fan handed me a copy through the glass. It was nice. I posted a story about a bear, and my daughter here. Then I decided that the story didn't really belong in a thread titled "Most Annoying fan at Lynah", so I started a new thread. Robb Wrote: 4) try to find someone to polish the trophies? The part about polishing the trophies wasn't one of the four goals. If memory serves, Schafer had the team polishing the trophies to instill a sense of the great history of the program. Andy W.by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Of Fandom, Then and Now - 19 years ago
When Schafer returned to Cornell as head coach he set four immediate goals for the program. They were (I don't recall if there was an order...if there was, this probably isn't it): 1)Sell out Lynah 2) Earn home ice for the playoffs 3) Beat Harvard 4)? What was the fourth? I've been trying to come up with it for a while, and just can't remember it. Thanks! Anby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey Jerseys - 19 years ago
Perfect Screen Printers, in Ithaca, sells jerseys, and will put a number on for you if you like. I believe they are the organization that sells apparel at the games as well. I imagine that if you call them, they can work something out with you with respect to shipping. (I am not affiliated with PSP in any way, beyond being a satisfied customer.) Their number is 607 272 0099. Good luck.by andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: Recruit Updates - 19 years ago
OK, I am definitely showing my ignorance here, but... Has Cornell (and other Ivy League schools) started offering athletic scholarships? Last I knew one of the things that distinguished the Ivy League schools from the others was that we --did not-- offer athletic scholarships. The article referenced above certainly makes it sound like this player is attending Cornell on an athletic scholarsby andyw2100 - Hockey

I did not really mean to question your ability as a journalist, Avash. I was merely trying to make the point that a starting player leaving the game due to injury, and then not returning, was certainly newsworthy. I think you would agree that if coach Schafer had said nothing at all about Pokulok, and if you and other journalists present did not ask anything about Pokulok, that you guys would havby andyw2100 - Hockey

I did not realize what a can of worms I was opening. And I do appreciate the couple of people who have suggested that perhaps I was jumped on a bit harshly. But now I also have to disagree with one of them. atb9 Wrote: andyw2100 Wrote: He is a public figure. This is the only real problem I have. He's not a public figure, he's a student-athlete. I do not think I was infringing on Pokulok's "medical privacy" by simply restating here what about 30 people in Section C heard when this woman returned for the start of the second period. I stated my source, and hers, for anyone inclined to question the validity of the information, and so that it would not be taken as the gospel truth. Pokulok was injured in a very public way. Re: 2/5 cornell v 'gate postgame - 19 years ago
I've been home from the game for a little while. Just finished reading through posts here, and haven't seen this mentioned. Apparently Pokulok broke his elbow early in the first period. We saw him go off the ice at the first stoppage after he was injured. Between the first and second periods, the woman who sits next to me heard from Dave McKee's father that Pokulok had broken his elbow. I'd loby andyw2100 - Hockey

Jim Hyla Wrote: Did anyone else think that Gate scored a goal about midway through the third period? A few of us thought a puck went in hard, hit the bottom back bar and came right out. The goal judge made no motion, the ref was in good position, and Gate didn't complain, even later after the play stopped. So maybe we saw an optical illusion. Re: The GAA Battle - 19 years ago
So we're talking a margin of error of less than what a goalie could be pulled for delayed penalties and extra man attempts. Does the time the goalie is off the ice for delayed penalties really come out of his time played stats? (I'm sure you're right that it does...I just never realized that it did.) Thanks.
