Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: ECAC SF Women: #1 Cornell vs #4 Princeton - 5 years ago
The Cornell women are currently fifth in pairwise, behind Clarkson. The top four host an NCAA first-round game, right? Are Cornell's chances of finishing fourth better if Colgate beats Clarkson or if Clarkson beats Colgate (in which case Cornell would clearly need to beat Clarkson to have any chance of top four.)by andyw2100 - Hockey

Trotsky Also the no checking rule should go the way of corsets and side saddle. They've been letting so much go I was pretty surprised they whistled that one with 1:03 to go in a tie game.by andyw2100 - Hockey

Heading into OT. Princeton will have 57 seconds left on a power play to start the OT.by andyw2100 - Hockey

2-2 with about 7 minutes to go in the third. Cornell's second goal was the result of a really impressive individual effort, ending with a wrap-around goal.by andyw2100 - Hockey

dbilmes Yale coach Allain not happy with punishment given to Priskie. "I think our league made a huge mistake with its judgment on this one. It should have been much more severe.” It looks like I'm in the minority here, but seeing the replay I was actually surprised an extra game suspension was tacked on. Based on what everyone was saying, I was expecting to see something much more draby andyw2100 - Hockey

Scersk '97 andyw2100"Cornell Men’s Hockey locked up its second straight Cleary Cup with a 2-2 tie at Clarkson." Gack! Well, there's always someone somewhere to do something wrong. Just received an email from Cornell Athletic Ticketing that got it right: "The Cornell men's hockey team claimed a share of its second straight Cleary Cup with a 2-2 tie Saturday night against Clarby andyw2100 - Hockey

Re: ESPN+ - tarted-up replay lead-ins - 5 years ago
billhoward ESPN+ is mostly a big step forward. Video quality is better They put a doggie shock collar around the main camera guy and told him he will be zapped at full power if he/she fails to pan with the puck. Hockey has an announcing team not twinned with the radio broadcast. Pretty sure the shock collar wasn't working last night in Potsdam. And it was definitely just the radio broadcast lasby andyw2100 - Hockey

Beeeej andyw2100 CU2007 Who won the ECAC. No idea what’s going on We tied Clarkson. Quinnipiac won. Harvard lost. So we tied Quinnipiac with 30 points, but they win the tiebreak. We "share" the regular season title, but they get the #1 seed. Yeah, I figured that out in another thread. Thanks, though!by andyw2100 - Hockey

andyw2100 Is the Cleary Cup "shared?" Cornell Sports seems to think we won it, so sharing it would be the only way the following is correct: "Cornell Men’s Hockey locked up its second straight Cleary Cup with a 2-2 tie at Clarkson." I answered my own question. As per Wikipedia, it is shared:by andyw2100 - Hockey

Trotsky 1. 30 Qpc 2. 30 Cor 3. 28 Clk 4. 28 Hvd Chalk would mean an early game SF rematch in Placid. Wouldn't it be a late game rematch? Quinnipiac would play Harvard in the early game, no?by andyw2100 - Hockey

Apparently a fire alarm caused the evacuation of Houston Field House last night during the Harvard vs. RPI game: My daughter was seeing stuff about this somewhere last night, and said that the Harvard team actually got on their bus to stay warm.by andyw2100 - Hockey

Penalty Killing Streak - 5 years ago
The following question is not in any way intended to upset the woofing gods. Apparently the Cornell penalty kill has a streak of 39 straight kills. Following are the relevant excerpts from the game notes and game preview from before the Union game and before the (coming) St. Lawrence game, respectively: -- Cornell enters tonight with 35 consecutive successful penalty kills. ugarte Donaldson skated off a few seconds earlier holding his arm with what looked like it might be a broken wrist. I thought it looked like he was holding his elbow at first, and then it looked like it could be a shoulder issue. I'd be surprised if it was his wrist.by andyw2100 - Hockey

Jim Hyla BearLover Trotsky If I read the Q USCHO thread correctly, their senior defenseman BU-transfer (and 3rd-leading scorer) Brandon Fortunato is lost to injury for the season. Brutal if true. All these injuries make me think the Ivies playing fewer games overall might make up for having to start the season late. Why is that? We certainly have had our share of injuries this year and just lasby andyw2100 - Hockey
Re: 2019-01-25: #12 Cornell at Colgate - 5 years ago
Jim Hyla Second, if you want to see a "goal scorers goal", look at Colgate's first goal by Bobby McMann. It starts around 0:53. He has to regain possession 2 or 3 times as he skates through 4 Cornell players. At 1:30---"Benson, a sprawling arm save!" Benson's arm sounded an awful lot like the near post!by andyw2100 - Hockey
