Re: WHERE TO WATCH: DISH Network, too! - 18 years ago
If you want to watch the games but have DISH Network instead of DirecTV, you're not as out-of-luck as this suggests! Sunday's championship game is being picked up live by the following regional networks: Charter-St. Louis, CN8, Comcast Michigan, Comcast SportsNet West (Sacramento), Cox New England, Cox Oklahoma City, Cox Sports-LA, Cox-Tulsa, CSS (Comcast Sports SE), FSN North- Wisconsin and Mby mha - Hockey
Re: Scare tactics email from Gene Nighman - 18 years ago
Absolutely. Just smiling and saying hi rather than rushing past them with your head down and your ticket up makes a big difference. Before long, they know who you are, and don't even need to see the ticket.by mha - Hockey
Re: Scare tactics email from Gene Nighman - 18 years ago
Coach Schafer specifically commented that the packs of gum on the ice were a serious potential hazard during warmups at Colgate, so the players couldn't effectively get warmed up. He was furious that Colgate actually handed out the gum to students... then collected it off the ice, put it back in boxes, and handed it out again!by mha - Hockey
Re: Lynah Rink Renovation - 18 years ago
Hehe. No, John Webster was quite explicit about that, and I gather there's a suitable disclaimer on the site. Your $1,000 gives you only the right to "name" the seat, not buy season tickets, sit in that seat, or anything else. One thing that bothers me is all the talk about this being "permanent." Frankly, $1,000 sounds low to name the seat forever, whether or not anythingby mha - Hockey
Cornell at Union on TV and free webcast - 18 years ago
Cornell has announced that this Saturday evening's season finale, Big Red men's ice hockey at Union, will be broadcast live by Time Warner Cable, in Central and Northern New York on channel 26, in the Capital District on channel 3, and as a free live webcast at starting at 7pm Saturday. Jason Moy and Matt DuBrey will be calling the game.by mha - Hockey
Need more hockey? FREE games TONIGHT! - 18 years ago
Despite a full weekend of hockey at Lynah and in Torino, I want more. If you do, too, join me at Lynah Rink at 6pm for a Sirens vs Furies game... two local women's teams with lots of skill and energy. And there's another game at 9pm at The RINK on East Shore Drive in Lansing, the adult league's Cass team vs whoever they're playing; they're in their playoffs. (EDIT Good news! Also, wasn't Andy a wrestler, too? And, Kyle, they needed to hear from you two weeks ago about the problems two weeks ago. And they need to hear from you today about the problems last night. Waiting until "donation time" guarantees nothing gets fixed.by mha - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth game - no access?? - 18 years ago
Don't wait until the summer. Any decisions for next year will have been made by then. Start your calls and e-mails to Athletics now. And since you're right about happy people forking over more money, John Webster <jlw9@cornell.edu>, the guy who's responsible for the Lynah Rink campaign, needs to hear this. Note that he's NOT responsible for streaming media decisions in any way, so don't takby mha - Hockey

I'm going to bring Gene a little gift tomorrow night. Not sure what yet. Can of tuna, bag of gummi fish, whatever. If you know Gene or at least recognize him on sight, you should, too.by mha - Hockey
Re: Joe's - 18 years ago
The way I put it was "Lots of little things went wrong, and lots of big things went right." But at the pre-opening dinner I went to on Friday, I wasn't expecting everything to be perfect... nor would I during their first week open, when I'm sure they're getting swamped. If you thought the service was good and everything flowed smoothly, I'll be very impressed. I have no doubt theby mha - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: USCHO going to pay structure? - 18 years ago
The problem with free things is that it's often hard to realize how valuable they are. I probably average only two or three visits to USCHO a month during the season, and I know it's worth $10 to me... but then, I'm used to paying for things I enjoy, use, or appreciate. Contrast to Meetup.com's attempt to change from a model where everything was free to one where nothing was free, and local grby mha - Hockey
Re: USCHO going to pay structure? - 18 years ago
If USCHO isn't worth $10 a year to you, to supplement the entertainment you're already paying $200-500 a year for, why are you using it?by mha - Hockey

Re: Student Season Tickets? - 18 years ago
CornellBigRed.com is hosted by a commercial provider, and should not be affected by this weekend's planned power outage at Rhodes Hall. WVBR is the official radio source for the info, and will be broadcasting it immediately. There's more info at and there'll be updates there as available.by mha - Hockey
Re: Good Places after Colgate - 18 years ago
We've stopped at the Brae Loch Inn up in Cazenovia on the way back from Hamilton a couple of times. (In fact, the owner is often at the Colgate game with us!) The kitchen is usually closing right around when we get there, but it's a great place for some drinks, and the cheese and crackers are always available. They have some good beers on tap and in bottles, and a great scotch selection. If the kby mha - Hockey
Re: Good Places to Eat Post Game? - 18 years ago
It really hasn't changed. Same owner and manager (Seth) and pretty much exactly the same food, except that the menus are now blue instead of yellow, and they've changed the names of all of the trademarked menu items. My hope is that dropping the franchise agreement won't prove to be as disastrous for them as it was for the guy who owned the Dunkin Donuts franchises in town. He didn't think heby mha - Hockey
Re: Good Places to Eat Post Game? - 18 years ago
I guess I need to add a late-night page to 14850 Dining. The Rose (in Triphammer Mall) is definitely a good post-game spot, as they're still serving food, and they have Cornell athletics connections. Nardi's, next door, has generally stopped serving by then. The Regent Lounge at the Statler is a very good post-game location, as it's quick to get to and you don't have to drive your car outby mha - Hockey

Re: I love the Colgate athletics dept - 19 years ago
Streaming audio takes a lot less bandwidth than streaming video, but it isn't negligible by any means. 28-30 simultaneous 24 kbps audio streams from WVBR's streaming server fills about half of a T1. Serving even audio to more than a couple dozen people takes serious bandwidth over a serious network connection, and that gets pricey.by mha - Hockey
Re: directions to 'gate - 19 years ago
Up 81 to Lafayette (exit 15) and then 20 west is definitely my preferred route. One good reason? Have dinner at the Brae Loch in Cazenovia on the way there, or drinks there on the way back. (I'm more likely to do the latter.) They're right on the corner with the blinky traffic light as you're coming into Cazenovia and turning right. Hey, let's fill up their bar after the game Friday... decentby mha - Hockey
Crimson alum Ruggiero in the pros - 19 years ago
Former Harvard women's team member Angela Ruggiero (who coached at a hockey camp program in Ithaca) made her pro debut this past weekend with the Tulsa Oilers, a Central Hockey League team that's otherwise made up of men. She was on ESPN Friday morning with brother and goaltender Bill before the Oilers' Friday night 7-2 win against Rio Grande Valley, and was featured on the Today Show on Tuesday.by mha - Hockey

Re: 11/27:Canisius 0 @ Cornell 0 - 19 years ago
I've certainly seen worse attendance at games during breaks. As Age said, there were lots of holes in the student sections, especially E and F more than A, B, or D. Cornell has done a good job some years of asking people to donate their tickets for Thanksgiving weekend games if they'll be away, so local kids can use them, but I don't think that happened this year. At least, I didn't hear about itby mha - Hockey

Re: Yes, Cornell on internet video - 20 years ago
Yup, Athletics and CIT were both scrambling on this, this week. Apparently i2Sports is very dependent on students... who are on spring break this weekend! Having the video netcast be free for the Quarterfinals is a nice touch.by mha - Hockey
Re: Cornell Club of Boston and Cornell at Harvard Tickets - 20 years ago
Chris, I have a feeling if you talk to them, list for them the five games you went to last season, and tell them you'd like to go to multiple games this season, they would let you "make your own package." They're clearly trying to avoid selling just the one-game ticket to Cornell fans.by mha - Hockey
