Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2020-21 Schedule - 4 years ago
Jim Hyla Added the North Dakota home games and Yale at MSG to schedule, although I hate both of them. Yale doesn't add anything and North Dakota will likely have played at least 4 actual games prior to us. That doesn't include exhibition games. I could easily see us losing both and then having to go all season trying to make up for it, much like 2 years ago. Granted losing to UND is bby redice - Hockey

Beeeej ursusminor It's not clear to me how this affects simulations, but Cornell suffers from having to play mediocre competition in the ECAC. Clarkson isn't bad, but after that -- blah! It has nothing to do with this, but yesterday I enjoyed watching the 1990 RPI-Cornell ECAC semifinal which Sean Pickett uploaded recently. It made me realize again one of the reasons why I used to despise Coby redice - Hockey

adamw still sadly doubling every couple of days. I've gotten over the worst sadness. But expect April 11th to be another "down" day as I'll know in my heart that I'm missing an inevitable highlight of my life. And, yes, the way this team was performing, I do think it was inevitable. Now, it's just an impossible dream.by redice - Hockey
Re: Vote Barron for Hobey - 4 years ago
Swampy The only thing is the Rangers seem to have been treating him really well, as has Cornell and Cornell Hockey. As others have mentioned, if he comes back and goes the FA route in 2021, he could enter the market with a NC & Hobey. (Even without him, I think we're going to be really good next year, if we ever get the chance to play.) I thought I understood the article to say that his draby redice - Hockey

Re: Funny opposing fans at games - 4 years ago
scoop85 I too remember from RPI’s NC season in ‘85 the game at Lynah when not only did we have a robust “YOUR COACH IS FAT” chant, but we also serenaded the large RPI contingent with “YOU LIVE IN TROY”. One of my favs is "Troy is a slum!"by redice - Hockey

1985 ECAC Tourney in the old Boston Garden.. We happened to be sitting very near the students that year. When the RPI mascot skated onto the ice (it was some strange thing that looked like a bumble-bee), I thought to myself: "what the fuck is that?" Soon, the kids were chanting: "what the fuck is that?" over & over! It was as if they were reading my mind (I know,by redice - Hockey

From a USA Today article this morning: "The NCAA on Friday announced that Division I athletes could regain lost eligibility for spring sports seasons that were canceled due to the pandemic. College sports’ governing body is also considering enacting similar waivers for athletes in winter sports – including men’s basketball......" Yes, this article was about basketball. Re: Season's Over - 4 years ago
Dafatone The Rancor Can't they play the tournament in the summer, when this dies down a bit? I wondered that, too. A friend pointed out that for graduated seniors, it may be difficult to get them on the ice if they're either the property of a pro team or off working at an actual job. But even if that's the case, maybe they could swing something together. If you told me that we'd play the NCAby redice - Hockey
Re: Cornell hockey 2019-20 National Champions - 4 years ago
billhoward If an auto race is red-flagged after 290 of 350 laps, the car in the lead is the winner. Cornell is out front with 29 of 35 games played. Done. +1by redice - Hockey
Re: Cornell hockey 2019-20 National Champions - 4 years ago
billhoward No playoffs, no problem. The final poll determines the champion. In the Harkness-then-Moran late 1960s lacrosse years, the pollsters always screwed Cornell in favor of a less-talented old-guard southern team. So it's fair turnabout now. Cornell should hoist two banners this fall and celebrate the men and women being national champions. I was just having this discussion withby redice - Hockey

djk26 ugarte i enjoyed this season immensely. the kids played great hockey, i got to see them live with my family at the garden, they closed on a dominant weekend where they blew out the #2 team in the conference. hang a banner, guys. i'm making peace with this. i think the impulse for many people is to look at things closing down or events cancelling right now as a sign of doom, but for tby redice - Hockey

This was to be the year. fly to Detroit city, sit in the Arena ON THE GODAMN GLASS NO LESS, and whoop it up. ugarte redice upprdeck i am still trying to find anything that says how much the ecac tickets really cost.. But I know the tickets were not $6 this week A friend of mine bought tix for Friday's game @ $20 each. They told him that he will be refunded the full $20 per ticket. It just doesn't seem right that season ticketholders would be refunded an amount so far below face-value. do you pay fby redice - Hockey
Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
upprdeck I am not saying we are not getting ripped off either... I just dont think its as simple as $20 vs $6. Cornell could have charged us $10 and sent $6 to the ECAC for their cut months ago too and maybe thats what the ECAC sends them back.. The hard part is not really knowing since it seems to be hidden in the costs up front. Have to try and remember if you can remove the ECAC package uby redice - Hockey
Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
upprdeck not sure how they are making money on the game if thats what they really charged though. And its not their money anyway.. None of the playoff money goes to Cornell. If it's $20 face-value ticket and they're refunding only $6 to the customer, SOMEBODY is making money!!! And, I don't give a damn if it's Cornell or whomever. It's being taken from the customer (we fans)!! That's wrongby redice - Hockey
Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
upprdeck I found my notes from last year and $6 was that refund too.. I just cant believe thats what we were really charged last summer when they came out but maybe. Just because they got away with thievery last year, doesn't make it right THIS YEAR! They're going to make a bundle on this game without allowing many people to see the game live. That's a sin!by redice - Hockey

Re: Corona Virus And Playoff Games - 4 years ago
Jim Hyla Just got an email from Tickets about my refund. They are giving back $6/ticket, which seems low, but I'll have to look at my season ticket prices. Our local newspaper tries a similar stunt (if your newspaper is not delivered)... They offer up a $.058 refund for a Sunday newspaper that costs $3 on the newstand. Thieves!!
