Re: Incoming Recruits - 4 years ago
ursusminor Proud to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey at Cornell University. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this point! #BigRed pic.twitter.com/Wmh0psPUc0— Tim Rego (@Tim_Rego98) January 29, 2020 Several sites listed him as a Holy Cross commit last spring/summer.... I guess he changed his mind... Our gain; HC's loss!by redice - Hockey
Re: Perfection Returns to Lynah - 4 years ago
adamw redice Does anyone have any insight into Brian Cropper's absence last evening? I hope he's in good health! I don't think it's out of school to mention what I was told ... basically that he had something to take care of medically - it was scheduled for this week - and if he postponed it, it would've been another 3 months+ ... so he felt he had to stay and do it. No idea the nature of it.by redice - Hockey

Darthmouth/Harvard weekend - 4 years ago
Received today: As a player at Cornell, one of my favorite memories was taking the ice to start the game. The crowd was loud and supportive with those first few steps onto the ice. I also know that this can be the most intimidating time for the opposition. When they skate onto the ice and see the Lynah Faithful I know it has an effect on them. I am asking that our crowd returns to this trby redice - Hockey

Trotsky .....For that matter, did some of Dick's legendary ill humor come from having to constantly live in The Shadow of God? I don't think Dick ever got over his "Ned complex" When Ned was coaching Union, I once asked Dick when Cornell was going to play Union, he almost growled his answer at me: "when they go division one!".... It was clear that I had hit a nerve....by redice - Hockey
Re: 2020-01-10: Cornell 3 RPI 0 - 4 years ago
dag14 In my opinion, this is the best team I have seen since I graduated in 1972. I left town to go to grad school but got my grownup season tickets in 1976 so while I haven't seen every team play regularly over the last 51 years, I have seen most of them. Agreed... I've been watching them for 50+ years, not missing many home games. This is the best team, both athletically and mentally.by redice - Hockey

BearLover Turns out our big "question mark" coming into the season, our young defense, didn't turn out to be much of a question at all. I can think of a few reasons for this: 1. Schafer is probably the best defensive coach in college hockey. ..... This is exactly why, prior to this season, I predicted BIG things for this team! I had no doubt that Coach would bring these freshmenby redice - Hockey
Re: Las Vegas Roll Call - 4 years ago
French Rage RichH But I had a good time, because I know my comfort areas, and can get away from the overstimulating noise. It also carries some nostalgia for me. On top of that, it was a well run tournament overall. Ushers were friendly and left us to sit where we pleased. They provided bands, which shows they kind of “get” what the college game is about. Re: Fortress Invitational- 5:30 Pacific - 4 years ago
upprdeck I was at the Canadians game sat night and it was pretty clear in that crowd that the majority wanted to see a shootout.. i think shootouts are fun and exciting but i dont want to see tourney final decided by one unless they played at least 1 period of real hockey. They probably wanted to see a shootout because that's what they're used to seeing in that league......by redice - Hockey

scoop85 Jim Hyla USCHO's TMQ Column with the following quote. Jim It was ironic to me that the two teams that play in a league without 3-on-3 overtime or shootouts ended up playing in such a situation for the tournament’s championship. I will say that neither coach – Providence’s Nate Leaman and Cornell’s Mike Schafer – enjoyed the title game being decided in a shootout. Both said they would hby redice - Hockey

Jim Hyla USCHO's TMQ Column with the following quote. And this: Paula I agree with both Leaman and Schafer. Have the teams play until there’s a winner during in-season tournament play. I know that fans find a shootout thrilling, but they find fighting thrilling, too, and no one is making an argument for more fighting in college hockey just to make the game more exciting to fans. Re: 1969-70 memories - 4 years ago
jkahn Just a few initial thoughts from a guy who saw 22 of the 29: 3) People look back at history, and look at the Cornell teams as if they had great talent. But the overriding factor was that Ned was a great motivator. It's often said of good motivators that players will try to run through a brick wall for them. For Ned, they wouldn't just try, they'd find a way to do it. A truly amazby redice - Hockey

Does else anyone notice the Dartmouth person lobbying the officials during replays by pointing things out on the replay screen? INAPPROPPRIATE!!by redice - Hockey
Re: New Lynah scoreboard - 4 years ago
All of this brings to mind my hopes and prayers that the CU pep band has improved over last year's edition. In 50+ years of watching hockey at Lynah, last year's edition was the first to make me long for games WITHOUT a pep band. They were just plain "noise". Fingers crossed!!by redice - Hockey

David Harding Trotsky jtwcornell91 Scersk '97 Jeff Hopkins '82 Scersk '97 We should have screens above the urinals, obviously. And why not add ear-splitting advertisements, preferably with soulless techno: "This bathroom brought to you by Shortline! We gooooooooooo the distance!" Re: New Lynah scoreboard - 4 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 Scersk '97 French Rage I don't care for Lynah having bathrooms. Back in the days of Beebe Lake we just went in the woods. Now kids have to have fancy urinals with fancy corporate urinal cakes in them. You're right. Those socialist, free bathrooms? What a waste! Better to monetize them. Trotsky billhowardHere's a man still unhappy The New York Times runs photographs in color. Yes, the scoreboard will have dopey applications and fans will be urged to stand up, cheer, wave, not throw fish. But that's life. Things change. We get older. Today's freshmen - first-years - have different perspectives. They may like the scoreboard. Yes, things change. And half the time they get woby redice - Hockey

Trotsky redice CU2007 Looks like Beecher is from Elmira. Bummer I spent most of my life in the Elmira area. I was deeply disappointed to hear that he chose Michigan. Perhaps Cornell was too educationally challenging.Maybe he wanted to get outta Dodge. You must have heard about Elmira. Most want to get out of that "Dodge". I did, but I remained close enough for Cornell Hockey.by redice - Hockey

Scersk '97 Jeff Hopkins '82 Jim Hyla Not really an opponent, well sort of, Feola Named Director of Officiating I don't know...he's often seemed like an opponent. I would assume that means he won't be reffing ECAC games anymore? To be honest, that's kind of a loss. Better than most. jkahn With sadness I pass along the news that Dan Lodboa passed away on Saturday, May 11. I actually received the news Sunday from a former Cornell teammate of Dan's, but was waiting until the info was public or posted first by Cornell. Dan provided many great memories for Cornellians and townies in my time on the hill. FYP.... R.I.P. "Boa"by redice - Hockey
