Re: Fri 2/20: Cornell 2 at RPI 1 - 20 years ago
Kurt Stutt graduated from RPI in about 1989. He believes that one should be impartial. A matter of fact, I have been berated by him for using "we" in discussing games on USCHO. Dan '81 wrote: Is this RPI announcer a Cornell grad???by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Home Playoffs - 20 years ago
SLU was invited in 1964 and chose not to go. Also Clarkson had an undefeated team one year (1956?) that chose not to go because half the team would have been ineligible.by ursusminor - Hockey

Heisenberg has listed a new Cornell recruit Sasha Grenier-Pokuluk-LD (2/16/04) Notre Dame (SJHL) 6'5 220 5-25-86 2003 Quebec U-17 team The size certainly sounds Cornell, but the hypenated name sounds Princeton. Re: Home Playoffs - 20 years ago
The ECAC's Non-conference record would look a bit better if we were to count the league games against UVM as NC and discard UVM's current NC games. This sort-of makes sense because UVM is leaving -- then again, they haven't left yet.by ursusminor - Hockey

Re: Everyone Gets a Point? - 20 years ago
If you awarded 3 points for a win, what about a tie game? I suppose you could always add in a shootout... I knew that I forgot something. So, the simplest change would be to award four points for a regulation-time win, three for an OT win, two for a tie, one for an OT loss, and none for a regulation-time loss (and a partridge in a pear tree ). As I indicated before, and John just said betterby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Everyone Gets a Point? - 20 years ago
My problem with awarding an extra point for an OT loss is that it can hurt a third team because three points instead of two were awarded for a single game. If an OT loss is felt to be worth more than a regulation-time loss, then an OT win should be worth less than a regulation-time win to balance it. So, maybe three points should be awarded for a regulation-time win, two points for an OT winby ursusminor - Hockey

Re: What the hell is going on? - 20 years ago
I'll be picky. I was talking to my Dad the other night. He's a '72 grad of RPI. We were talking about the year 1985 when RPI was 35-2-1 on the way to the national title. They had a similar thing happen with a graduating class that included Daren Puppa, Adam Oates, John Carter (though he's sorta like Vesce in that he was just a junior). The seniors really have more of an effect than everyone imby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Robert Morris Joins CHA - 20 years ago
There is some interesting speculation on the ECAC in the USCHO AH column, of all places: . Comments include that there are ECAC schools that wouldn't be happy with Holy Cross joining the ECAC (I wonder who), and that there are ECAC schools that would like to kick out Union due to its stance on Prop 65 (I can guess who on this one ). Re: Reflections on the weekend; thinking about the future - 20 years ago
I have also heard there is an unofficial assistant who has helped them with their power play - which at times looked very good on Saturday. That would be George Morrison, formerly of Denver. IIRC, Morrison was one of the stars of the Denver team that beat Cornell in 1969. See Some RPI fans believe that it's because it's a year ending in '4'. Apparently, RPI has made the NCAA tournament every yby ursusminor - Hockey

I'll make a deal with you guys. I'll vote for Vesce and Moulson if the Cornell fans who were forced to buy tcikets to the RPI@Harvard game cheer for RPI.by ursusminor - Hockey

Re: Vermont to Hockey East? - 20 years ago
I would think that HE's 12th team would be URI which IIRC is starting a program in the near future. They might as well get a matched set of all six NE state schools. As to the ECAC, I wrote on USCHO that the most likely replacement for UVM is Holy Cross although Niagara is also a distinct possibility. Can't you Ivy Leagures convince Penn to start up again? Ken, I noticed that when I posted the link. Re: - 20 years ago
Greg, The link to the 11/25/65 game seems broken. Also, how could 15-0 have been Cornell's biggest shutout when the 1/13/65 game just above it was 19-0? Or did you mean Cornell's biggest shutout vs a DI opponent? Re 12/30/66. The "?" was probably Bob (i.e. Robert) Ferguson, the non-twin brother of Doug and Dave. What about 12/1/70, the end of the streak? I'd also put in a voteby ursusminor - Hockey
