Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: ECAC All-Academic Team - 22 years ago
I noticed that some Dartmouth Freshmen are listed. The rules state that one has to have completed an academic year. Does anyone know what the story is?by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: ECAC All-Academic Team - 22 years ago
Why is it suspicious that all of RPI's All-Academic players are Management majors? It's a tradition started by Ned Harkness. I had the same reaction about the lack of AA's at Harvard. Yep, Avaya is a spinoff of Lucent, in turn a spin-off of AT&T.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: ECAC picks Grady - 22 years ago
Thanks John*2 and Josh. Is Morrison a person or a building? All great colleges are built on hills. They get harder to climb when you become an alum as I found out again last December.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: ECAC picks Grady - 22 years ago
This thread is quite funny, but there is little hope that some Cornell fans will admit that there is anything about their school that isn't perfect. That's life. Hopefully, RPI will have a chance to show it on the ice, just like Dougie Hearns was able to do on 12/4/68, and the whole RPI team did two years later. (I better not mention RPI's two contributions to Cornell's undefeated season. ) Riby ursusminor - Hockey
All goalies look the same with a mask on :-) - 22 years ago
Melissa, All announcers make those kind of errors. Didn't it take a half period for a certain sainted announcer to realize that Underhill wasn't in the goal two weeks ago?by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: USCHO Pledge Drive - 22 years ago
Yes, they did ask for contributions soon after they started and had a page listing names. It's probably a question of semantics.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: ECAC picks Grady - 22 years ago
Greg, I think that the Jayson and Kurt are both great on WRPI. Furthermore, they manage to monitor the discussion on USCHO and comment there from the press box at times. The other RPI announcers are improving. I do wish that they would cut out the practice of awarding Three Stars after each game only to RPI players. This might have made sense when there was an award that went along with this at tby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Milestones - 22 years ago
Freshmen weren't eligible to play varsity sports back then. There usually were separate Freshmen teams playing limited schedules. When Freshmen were first allowed to play varsity, not all schools went along with it, and there was the expected "we won't play you if your use Freshmen," but this was soon ironed out. I'll leave you to guess which schools were on each side of this disagreemeby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Scoreboard - 22 years ago
Age, It looks like the trained hamster was at it again on Saturday : The quote comment is: "In the second period the soreboard read PRINCETON PENALTY-TWO MINUTES FOR SUCKING. Not very sportsmanlike, but it got a hugh laugh from the crowd." I can't tell you if "soreboard" was intentional or a typo.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Scoreboard - 22 years ago
Rich, He hopes that RPI's entire season will be cancelled. This will mean that RPI will not be a TUC, and Cornell's victories over the 'Tute won't count. That must be it.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Scoreboard - 22 years ago
Age, Are you implying that no one had mentioned this to Hagwell before today? It was either mentioned on the WRPI broadcast and/or on USCHO after the game.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: sun article 03/05/02 - 22 years ago
Marty, I'm an RPI alum, and I agree with you that awarding three stars after each game only to RPI players is dumb, but I enjoy hearing the announcers trying to come up with three players that performed well in the clunkers that RPI manages to have each year. However. I don't think that Cornell fans should complain when other schools keep traditions that have long outlived their relevance. Asby ursusminor - Hockey
Fulton's Folly - 22 years ago
Just to satisfy my curiosity, is The Cornell Sun, the student newspaper? The second page of thread on USCHO has the quotes from both The Albany Times-Union and The Troy Record; The T-U states that Murley said: "He (Fulton) said it didn't make it over the line,'' said RPI co-captain Matt Murley, who found a silver lining in defeat. "Now Cornell knows we're gonna be able to beat them wby ursusminor - Hockey

zq88. Yes. That's the one.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: QuickTime audio fix for Windows - 22 years ago
Al, However an RPI engineer was also responsible for the old Tacoma Narrows Bridge.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: QuickTime audio fix for Windows - 22 years ago
Sorry, Age, what do you expect from an RPI grad?by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: more mention on abc sports (sarah hughes) - 22 years ago
Rich, They also stated that Simon Gagne, born on 2/29/80, has only celebrated four birthday anniversaries because 2000 was not a leap year. How soon some people forget. rolleyes::by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: QuickTime audio fix for Windows - 22 years ago
I have the opposite problem. The sound comes in just fine, but there is no picture.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: RPI/Union - 22 years ago
Rich, A current RPI student could probably give you better information, but I think that visiting bands used to be in Section 10 at the HFH, not Section 11. Section 10 still faces the stage, but not as far away as Section 11 which doesn't even have actual seats.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: RPI/Union - 22 years ago
Here is a seating chart for the HFH: . By the way, in my opinion, the view from these seats has improved (although it still is as Anne described) from when I was there from 1964 to 1974 when there was wire mesh instead of plexiglass. Also there were many more endzone seats before the renovation in about 1982.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Retired Numbers - 22 years ago
RPI used to line up in numerical order. I don't know if they do it now.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: 2 NCAA bids for the MAAC - 22 years ago
Not wanting to bust anyone's balloon, but the Committee could also not award Cornell a bid if they lost the ECAC Tourney based upon the same rule. Except for Brown, the ECAC doesn't exactly have a great OOC record. I don't think that it will happen, but it could.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Penn wants in- Wouldn't it be great... - 22 years ago
HE wanted RPI on a couple of occasions in the past. I don't know if they would want RPI now, but I am almost positive that the RPI admin wouldn't like the idea. I am sad to say that they probably wouldn't mind if the "RPI to D-III" rumors surfaced again. As to UVM -- they're HE's type of team with the scandal from a couple of years ago. Seriously, I suspect that HE would like to add aby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: 1967 All Tournament Teams - 22 years ago
The 1968 Official Collegiate Scholastic Ice Hockey Guide also doesn't list a second team.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: LeNeveu for ROTY? - 22 years ago
Greg, I've repeatedly been told that only ECAC games are supposed to count for the league awards and the All-Star teams. There Leneveu's stats are 5-1-0, 1.51, .926.by ursusminor - Hockey
