Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2003-4 Schedule - 21 years ago
I assume that the ordering of part of the conference schedule is backwards. That is, I doubt that Cornell will play RPI, Dartmouth, Clarkson, and Princeton both times on Friday, and their travel partners both times on Saturday. It looks like the pairs were just entered alphabetically except for Brown/Harvard.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Hockey Preview in Sun - 21 years ago
Can someone explain the following that appears in one of the articles: That is, until 1973 - one truly strange year. The ECAC had just banned Canadians from playing. I was in Grad School in RPI in 1973 and assuredly I would recall this if it were true. RPI, like Cornell, had a virtually 100% Canadian hockey team at the time.by ursusminor - Hockey

Also for Clarkson goaltender Mattson isn't returning. I guess that it won't make any difference.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Fifth Class of 2007 Recruit - 21 years ago
Greg, If you think that Bear is cooler than Baer, perhaps it would be even cooler in my case to use the Hebrew translation instead -- Dov. Hmmm, I think that someone in Cambridge is already using that as a given name.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Fifth Class of 2007 Recruit - 21 years ago
It's "Baer", Greg. BTW, there is some name calling going on between CC and Denver fans over at USCHO about Carefoot whose father attended Denver. The link is . You might find it amusing.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Preseason Polls - Cornell #1 (barely) - 21 years ago
Considering that they have not picked preseason All-ECAC teams before, it isn't surprising that this hasn't happened.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Last call for pro signings, academic delinquents, etc. - 21 years ago
So the fact that I forgot to list Francois Senez, formerly of RPI, is not important.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Last call for pro signings, academic delinquents, etc. - 21 years ago
Greg, You probably have this information already. Marc Cavosie of RPI is in category 2 as he left after his Junior at RPI. Interestingly, his brother Eric Cavosie is in category 1 because he is a Grad student having been red-shirted in his Freshman year (98-99).by ursusminor - Hockey

Re: Player Progression - 21 years ago
Craig, Thanks for posting that. I was a month off on the cutoff date. As you wrote, it is the middle of September, not the middle of October.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Player Progression - 21 years ago
College hockey players and those intending to play college hockey do not get drafted when they are 18 years old. That is because one must declare into the draft when they are 18 and the NCAA regards anyone doing that a pro. A year later, one can be drafted without declaring the intension. The NCAA doesn't mind this. The NHL has their draft in the spring and the cutoff date for being draft eliby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Fourth Class of 2007 recruit - 21 years ago
According to Greg Berge on USCHO he'll be 6' 10", 234 lb by the time he takes the ice in 2003.by ursusminor - Hockey
Mark McCutcheon - 21 years ago
No one has posted this yet although it has been on the net both on Chris Heisenberg's 2003 recruit page and on USHR (a pay site) for several days. Mark McCutcheon, son of former Cornell player and coach Brian, has committed to Cornell for 2003. Quote from USHR: McCutcheon is a 5-21-84 birthdate and finished among the EJHL's top scorers last season. He'll return to the Coyotes for the upcominby ursusminor - Hockey

Re: ECAC in Albany, thread 2 - 21 years ago
For what it is worth, I have been allowed to vote on the USCHO poll on their front page every time that I sign on from my home computer. So there must be a similar problem there. I don't have this "problem" from my work computer or when voting in polls on the USCHO message board.by ursusminor - Hockey

Wouldn't Harvard still have been a TUC because they won the ECAC championship?by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Gartman - 21 years ago
It is supposed to be that way. So maybe the problem is something to do with the way that WP creates Word files. However, I have no problem editting a Word file created by WP using Word on a PC.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Gartman - 21 years ago
Was WP .9 a beta version of WP 1? I just tried WP 9 and didn't get that to happen, but I know that my version has several set of fixes applied to it. Now if you say that WP 10 sucks, I'll agree. I do have a lot of fun converting WP files to Word and sending them to other people, especially those Mac versions of Word.by ursusminor - Hockey

Greg, Some us still swear by Word Perfect. Now I know that using it has kept the flood waters at bay.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Internet Radio at Risk? - 22 years ago
There was a lot of talk about this from the RPI station WRPI a couple of months ago. See the links at on the upper right. More recently, see the following article in the school newspaper: .by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: My brain hurts... - 22 years ago
Age, I think that you really have to walk it through the entire game adjusting every time that a penalty is given or a goal is scored, because conceivably in the third period there might be delayed penalties that have backed up from the first period. Clearly, such games are rare, but it is not unknown to have a series of penalties backing up for ten minutes. The only possible way of getting arouby ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Cavosie To Leave RPI - 22 years ago
Al, It isn't like this didn't happen before. Hopefully, RPI will continue to attract players whom the NHL is interested in. At least this makes more sense to me than when Matt Garver left to go to RIT four years ago. Here's a thread from a JrA board that might interest people here. . It shows more intelligence than most junior threads I have read on various boards.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Notes on the Frozen Four (long) - 22 years ago
Al, of course he didn't. That made me think that he must be Mark Lyon who I think was a walk-on.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Notes on the Frozen Four (long) - 22 years ago
It eliminates a few who I know to be Canadian. It's too bad that a program from the 54-55 RPI Holiday Tourney which was recently sold on ebay isn't open to the RPI roster. Perhaps I'll send a message to Ralph Slate (owner of hockeydb) who bought the item. To get this back on topic, that was a great trip report. Reminds me of "the good old days" on Hockey-L.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: Notes on the Frozen Four (long) - 22 years ago
Beeeej, Do you know the name of the former RPI player (Class of '57, I assume) whom you met in St Paul? Comparing the 53-54 roster and the 54-55 roster, the following look like the members of this class: Dick Chiarelli, Pete McArthur, Arnie Perrett, Sloan Sargent, John Stopen, and Mark Lyon.by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: ECAC Championship Belt - 22 years ago
It does sound like it is possible to hold both simultaneously. Say that the two teams with the belts face each other, and they play a tie game. The owner of the Championship Belt would now hold both. It would make more sense to me if neither (or perhaps both) changed hands with a tie.by ursusminor - Hockey

The Viking Cup also has a team from local Augustana College, nicknamed the Vikings (hence the name of the tourney), and teams from several Scandinavian countries (to keep to the theme). Here's the link to this year's tourney .by ursusminor - Hockey
Re: posters - 22 years ago
Sometime in the '60s, Cornell began to edge toward a shade with more yellow. Some give credit to legendary hockey and lacrosse coach Ned Harkness, who came to the Hill in 1963. He changed the color of the hockey uniforms to bright red (perhaps because that was what he was accustomed to, after eighteen years at RPI); other Cornell sports teams followed suit. So Harkness did indeed steal RPI's uniby ursusminor - Hockey
