Re: Will Trevor Yates score 20 goals this season? - 6 years ago
One goal in two games this weekend should slightly increase Trevor's chances of hitting 20.by BearLover - Hockey

Re: Princeton @ Cornell 1/5/18 - 6 years ago
Swampy Wow! Last weekend PU tied the #1 team in the country, not once but twice! What does a spanking like this a week later do for our RPI, pairwise, etc.? What does it do to SCSU's? PWR doesn't factor in score, just whether you win/lose/tie. So the real benefit of tonight is that we avoided a loss. SCSU isn't hurt much because Princeton losing to a much higher-ranked team doesn't drop theby BearLover - Hockey

Will Trevor Yates score 20 goals this season? - 6 years ago
Trevor has 10 goals in 13 games. Only one Cornell player has scored 20 in a season since 1996: Matt Moulson had 22 in 2005.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Canisius 12/30 - 6 years ago
There were points in that game where Cornell's minutes-long cycling and inability to be taken off the puck called to mind some physically dominant Schafer teams of the mid-2000s. But equally determinative of the outcome was some very impressive passing, an area Cornell has vastly improved in the past few seasons.by BearLover - Hockey

sah67 Riley Nash has been all over the ice for the Bruins in their last two games: 2 goals (including a shortie) and an assist in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Ottawa, and then another assist and several good chances to end it OT against Washington last night. The game was on Riley's stick as Boston's final chance in the shootout, but he failed to convert. The assist last night was a beautiful spin paby BearLover - Hockey

Re: Miami 12/1-2 - 6 years ago
Encouraging weekend to close out a great first-third of the season. Wonder if the job is Stewart's to lose, if they'll go to a platoon, or if Galajda has looked enough better in practice that he's still the #1. My guess is Schafer thinks the goalies are pretty comparable and rides the hot hand or goes with a platoon. Though "hot hand" is probably a misnomer, because it might be more aboby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Miami 12/1-2 - 6 years ago
osorojo A winning hockey team with overwhelming individual talent can use the same game plan every game. A hockey team with good talent wins or loses depending upon changing its game plan just about every game, and usually during a game. Looking at the Box Score of this game, which is the best I can do, makes me wonder what happened in this game besides the score? Did anybody who saw the gameby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Miami 12/1-2 - 6 years ago
Jim Hyla 5 on 5 we were the better team. Not on special teams however. It was nice to see Coach pull the goalie with over 2 minutes to go. I think it speaks to the confidence he's getting with the team. It's also the statistically correct move.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Red Hot Hockey, 11/25/17 - 6 years ago
Beeeej Seriously, Nate?! Cornell won its first ever Red Hot Hockey matchup with Boston University at Madison Square Garden Saturday, beating the Terriers 4-3. The Big Red had been 0-2-3 against BU in the bi-annual matchup. Does he seriously not know that he could click elsewhere on the website for which he's writing his column to find these things out? Or, y'know, check the comments on hby BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky Perhaps this is the royal road for us competing nationally perennially. We will never get the true blue chippers who go to Minnesota and North Dakota because, now how can I put this delicately?, because they're rock stupid. But those guys are also just using the NC$$ as a quick stop before moving on to become inevitable NHL stars. They are being drafted by the NHL for who they will beby BearLover - Hockey

Swampy BearLover scoop85 BearLover Vanderlaan and Baron are so impressive at carrying the puck, passing, and not getting knocked off the puck. One is 6'3, the other is 5'7, but they both fit the system well and the best creators on the team. Kaldis seemed to play 30+ minutes last night, which was possible with the many TV timeouts. He rebounded from an error-prone outing on Tuesday. My gueby BearLover - Hockey

This will be a tough challenge for the Red. Miami is a premier program that has had a few down years but seems to be back on its way up. It is .500 in the best conference in college hockey. I would be happy with a split.by BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky BearLover Trotsky They're the favorite if MSG matters. They're also the favorite if you look at things that actually matter, like the talent on each team...FFS. You must have been so disappointed when we won last night. ??? Am I being a hater by saying Cornell doesn't have the talent of a team with 13 draft picks, three of whom are first-rounders? Iceberg It doesn't matter that BU has not played all that great this season; if this is the Cornell team that shows up on Saturday, it will be a long night. I'd guess BU is a slight favorite.by BearLover - Hockey

ugarte Hey what about that third period you Gloomy Gusses. Amazing pressure in the third period and Niagara's goalie sure looks like he's being coached by Ian Burt. (sorry sorry) I maintain that this was a very poor showing by Cornell, pretty much down to the final whistle. Sure, some great individual efforts and a few strong shifts in the third period, but crappy breakouts, failed zone clearsby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Niagara @ Cornell 11/21/17 - 6 years ago
Unbelievably sloppy play by Cornell. This will go down as an embarrassing loss if they don't turn things around in the third.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Clarkson at Cornell 11/18/17 - 6 years ago
Swampy I'd also add that Clarkson has played a tougher schedule. It has played six ranked teams, of which 4 continue to be ranked. Among non-ranked teams in the ECAC, its toughest opponent was Union, which is currently tied with us in second place. We've played 3 ranked teams, but of these only Clarkson has a current record commensurate with its ranking. Among our non-ranked ECAC opponents, Pby BearLover - Hockey
