Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - Today
CU77 BearLover So, if margin of victory/loss isn’t part of the selection committee’s criteria, what *is* their criteria? And why in the world would it be preferable to going purely based off of RPI? Official criteria are pretty goofy (see below), and IMO they are not preferable to straight RPI. Also the committee usually seems to start with straight RPI anyway and then muck around from there, sinby BearLover - Other Sports

CU77 BearLover I’m having a hard time seeing how Cornell could miss the NCAAs at this point. We are 9th in RPI and there are 18 NCAA spots. We had one bad loss the entire season, vs Penn State; the other three losses were by one goal. We blew a lot of teams out. I don’t see how the committee could leave Cornell out even if we lose next week. How many autobids could go to teams who would not gby BearLover - Other Sports

upprdeck So a cornell win makes it Cornell Princeton Yale Penn Really need to beat Penn then because 2 losses to them and Penn perhaps winning the Ivy puts Cornell back on the bubble I don’t see how that would put Cornell on the bubble.by BearLover - Other Sports

abmarks BearLover Cornell hockey won the ECAC and qualified for the NCAAs this season in large part because they didn’t have to beat anybody especially good on their way to the title. So what. We'd have had a better shot at winning the whole thing if we'd learned from (and beat).much better teams. You want a lottery ticket. I'd rather have a much stronger chance of winning the rhing5 Huby BearLover - Other Sports

abmarks Bearlover: since he got the job, I think your question about why Princeton but not Cornell HC is a good, and relevant one. Be interesting to see if any info slips out on this over time. Or maybe when Adam said syer would not be a Cornell HC, he already knew just how likely syer was to land the Princeton job. That seems the most likely explanation of Adam's emphatic statement. Chris '03 Princeton, SLU, and Clarkson now all led by former Schafer assistants. Seems pretty remarkable. Yes, it’s nuts. Clarkson and SLU play similar styles to Cornell, and now you have to imagine Princeton will as well. So we end up with three Cornell-lites in the same league as Cornell. I guess Flanagan gets promoted to associate head coach, and Schafer brings in somebody new in Flanagan’by BearLover - Hockey

osorojo Anybody know about what percentage of current NHL hockey players are college graduates? I would like to see how this number compares to the percentage of college graduates playing in other major professional sports. Comparing hockey to other sports doesn’t make much sense. For example, almost 100% of NFL players are Americans who had no options besides playing NCAA football. Hockey isby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Attendance at Lynah - 7 days ago
Interesting to revisit some of these old threads. I think fan attendance and energy is clearly not as good as it was 15 years ago, but at least it’s mostly plateaued over the past 10 years. My general thoughts —winning doesn’t have much of an effect on attendance. There doesn’t seem to be any correlation between the two. I can imagine that, if you’re a marginal fan, Cornell winning the gameby BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky Iceberg chimpfood CHN has syer as a finalist for the Princeton head coaching job. Funny considering quite a few of the past years Syer has subbed for Schafer behind at Princeton due to illnessHe's something like 9-1 (yes, I know the results go to Mike). That was before Schafer was out with an illness in 2021-22. Syer’s record wasn’t as good that year.by BearLover - Hockey

randyranger Robertson will be 20 this September. To be eligible for the ‘24 draft you have to be under 20 on 12/31/24 Says here . “Ice hockey players born between January 1, 2004, and September 15, 2006, are eligible for selection in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.” Robertson was born September 18, 2004, so would be eligible.
