Re: Wrestling 21-22 - 2 years ago
Swampy Paywall? Long article in the Rochester D&C, but here’s the gist . . . Yianni Diakomihalis didn't make the Olympic team, but he is in Tokyo to help U.S. win gold While the drive for Yianni Diakomihalis to make the U.S. Olympic wrestling team was stopped, the Hilton graduate is landing in Tokyo anyway for the upcoming Olympics. Kyle Dake needs training partners. Diakomihaliby George64 - Other Sports

scoop85 George64 Doug is the Everett Family Head Coach and his wife, Louise, is the Director of Hockey Operations, so the family package probably isn’t too bad. When Lax coach Tambroni left for Penn State, one of the reasons cited was his wife got a coaching position as well. As per the Fanlax Forum, Tambroni's wife did not get a coaching gig at PSU. I stand corrected. She’s a PSU alumnaby George64 - Hockey

billhoward Title IX is 50 years old now. You'd think someone would care about how Doug Derraugh is doing fiscally. That's barely thread drift at all. Wonder if Derraugh is thinking about Gary Gait jumping from HC of Women's to men's lacrosse at Syracuse. billhowardYep, thread drift again. But really, Cornell sports is quiet for another month or two. To help pass the time, the next Gabriel Allon book, The Cellist, will be available July 13.by George64 - Hockey
Re: Schafer's salary - 2 years ago
dag14 thread drift? Yup, but it’s one of the things I like about eLynah. I don’t think that there’s another sports site with such interesting sidebars.by George64 - Hockey
Re: New College Hockey Program? - 2 years ago
billhoward Yes, Lucas Davenport. How many of John Sanford / Lucas Davenport's top 100 rock tunes of all time do you agree with? You really have to be on the outer/older edge of Bâby Boomerdom to align fully. Sandford was born in 1943. About a third — I was born a year before Sandford. Just got Ocean Prey from the library with both Davenport and Virgil Flowers.by George64 - Hockey

billhoward “We know where we think the money was,” he said. “We just need to go back and see if it’s still there.” Sounds like a line out of a John Sandford Lucas Dake police novel, except that's set in Minnesota. Lucas Davenport?by George64 - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the news . . . - 2 years ago
Swampy I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but Hopkins Lacrosse has just been put on probation for violating NC$$ regulations regarding athletic scholarships. Oops! As a former Ivy and DII coach, Milliman probably should be forgiven for not knowing NCAA regulations about athletic “scholarships.”by George64 - Other Sports

Trotsky There will be two classes of students: kids who deserve to be here who come for free and rich assholes' short bus droppings who will buy their credential at an utterly INSANE cost . . . 25% Jared Kushner. In addition to tuition, at least Harvard got $2.5 million from Kushner’s felon father. Meanwhile, the spawn of a self-proclaimed billionaire got into Penn. George64 George64 Arecibo radio telescope to be decommissioned. Cornell faculty were integral in its design and the university operated it from its construction in the 1960s until 2011. Here’s Cornell’s announcement. An interesting article in The New Yorker on the history of and reflections on the impact of the radio telescope at Arecibo.by George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

Trotsky Also, here is the Famous Dutch Kitchen with all you can drink champagne, on the site of Madeline's, pre-Common: Same place, different memory. MBA students cause recent COVID-19 spike at Cornell Cornell University officials say 63 students tested positive for COVID-19 over the past three days and attributed most of the positive cases to MBA students who attended St. Patrick’s Day social gatherings. Re: Recruits beyond 2020 - 3 years ago
abmarks Here's my question though. Everybody in the hockey program is over 16. They will be plenty of shots available come fall... So why don't we and the league just mandate vaccination for participation by the players as well as the coaching staff. According to the NYS COVID website those now eligible include “Not-for-profit workers who provide public-facing services to New Yorkers in need.”by George64 - Hockey
Re: Ann Bowers Hall > goodbye Hoy Field? - 3 years ago
David Harding Is this the building that does in Hoy Field? Another CIS building housing the new Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science. You might expect the new building to be close to Gates Hall.. Assuming that they don't tear down anything to make space, there aren't many options. The announcement of the new Atkinson Center makes its location clear, but I don'tby George64 - Other Sports

scoop85 They sure loved taking standstill slap shots from the point in 1970. Back in the day, Larry Fullan had arguably the hardest slap shot in college hockey. The puck never seemed to be more than six inches off the ice. When I was in grad school, my roommate and I were skating at Lynah in summer ‘71. Dick Bertrand saw us and asked if we would be interested in playing in a no-checkby George64 - Hockey

Al DeFlorio The long periods of silence, however, were refreshing. He'd introduce a segment and then let you watch in peace. Absolutely! I now mute much of the NFL games (particularly Tony Romo). Everything I want to know is on the screen.by George64 - Hockey

jkahn Link provided thanks to Garth Ryan, who emailed it to me after I sent him the link to the Sun article. Thank you, Jeff! Thank you, Garth! I was there, great to relive that game! The Rancor Ed Ambis from Ambis industries- who made skate sharpeners and turned my skates into lethal razors? How did I not know this!? Ed Ambis ‘72 was my dentist when I lived in Ithaca following retirement. Ambis Industries, now closed, was owned and operated by his late brother Philip. Talking about hockey with Ed made my root canal more bearable. Philip played hockey at Elmira College.by George64 - Hockey
