Re: Second ND Game Thread - 2 years ago
dbilmes Nice sidebar article on Cody Haiskanen's homecoming weekend. Also, a homecoming of sorts for Ian Shane, who played for the NAHL Bismarck Bobcats. Must have been quite an adjustment for him, coming from Manhattan Beach, CA. .by George64 - Hockey
Re: Second ND Game Thread - 2 years ago
scoop85Among the incoming freshman I had no idea what Psenicka would bring to the table, as he didn’t have much of a track record in the USHL. But he has been a terrific offensive force, especially as a net-front presence scoring on tip-ins and screening the goaltender. I think he’s our best guy in that role since Joe Devin a decade ago. I particularly liked his effort, shown from above in theby George64 - Hockey

rss77Maxie Baughan used transfers to upgrade the talent plus some good recruiting. Yes, things greatly improved during his tenure. In his final three years, his teams were 20-9-1! Too bad he couldn’t keep his fly zipped! In eight seasons, Archer’s teams have won 21 games. .by George64 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
Beating a dead horse, I suppose. 247Sports publishes a Football College Team Talent Composite based on the number and rated talent of each team’s players. For example, Alabama is first with 85 rated players and a score of 1001.89 snd Georgia is second with 85 and 1001.79. For comparison, Stanford is 25th with 85 and 745.30, Syracuse is 70th with 71 and 568.67, Old Dominion (where Rick Rahneby George64 - Other Sports

Re: cornell covid testing - 2 years ago
Just wondering. Almost all the identified infectives are students. The incubation period (time from exposure to the development of symptoms) of the virus is estimated to be between 2 and 14 days based on the following sources: The World Health Organization (WHO) reported an incubation period for COVID-19 between 2 and 10 days. The CDC estimates the incubation period for COVID-19 to beby George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

billhoward Cornell might seem to be saying, "I'm on cruise control en route to retirement and golf." Given the formidable challenges inherent in the Cornell football program, a successful head coach here could hardly operate on cruise control. As for recruiting, I’d think that a prospective player would be thrilled to play for a head coach with Garrett’s resume. Plus, I think heby George64 - Other Sports

From NBC Sports: Jason Garrett was a candidate for the Duke head coaching vacancy and believed to be the favorite for the job. . . Duke is finalizing a deal to make Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko the school’s next head coach. . . Elko spent four seasons at A&M after serving as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator in 2017. He also worked as the defensive coordinator at Wby George64 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
After he was released as the New York Giants’ offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett was given very strong consideration for the open head coaching position at Duke. In the end, however, he was passed over for the job. Garrett comes from a coaching family, has an Ivy pedigree (Princeton and Columbia), extensive pro coaching experience, some NFL playing time, he’s 55 and really shouldn’t need aby George64 - Other Sports

And still, Cornell remains the the only school that’s played football multiple times against TOSU and never lost. 23-14 in ‘39 and 31-7 in ‘40! LGR!by George64 - Other Sports

Re: Stats - 2 years ago
TrotskyIt's a testament to how much the game has changed that 1.70 pts/game would not even crack Cornell's top 50 single season records. Thanks for sharing those stats. I was fortunate to have seen every one of them play, except John Gillies, 41st on the list.by George64 - Hockey

Re: "Proposed" future ECAC - 2 years ago
CU2007 I think Quinnipiac eventually joins Hockey East, to make that a 12 team league. 11 teams is awkward and they’re a good fit geographically as well as culturally (if you will). Then maybe ECAC takes LIU to make the conference whole at 12. If and when Penn adds a team, maybe ECAC steals a Niagara or a Holy Cross from Atlantic. Or better still, from my perspective, RITby George64 - Hockey
Re: Red Hot Hockey "Presale" - 2 years ago
CU2007 Interestingly it appears the game will be carried on ESPN+. I thought I had read that only games in ECAC arenas would be shown, which MSG obviously is not. Yes! Received this email this morning. George, cheer on Big Red TOMORROW! Al DeFlorio The engineering class of 1965 had one woman, and her last name was Cornell. There was a lone women engineering student from roughly the same era, so maybe it was Ms. Cornell, who drove a British racing green MG. I remember, because I coveted, but never owned one. Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
billhoward Nobody wishes Cornell Football ill. But if a current setback leads to future change, this would have been nine years in summary explaining why it finally happens: The play Cornell ran and fumbled away just before the half, that Columbia scooped up for a TD--except a Cornell knee was down before the fumble--would have summarized the season. That and when Columbia throws uncatchableby George64 - Other Sports

When Marian Mosko comes to Cornell, he’ll be the second Slovak to play here, the other being Frank Kovac ‘00. Interestingly, he could team with Czech Ondrej Psenicka ‘25, creating a Czechoslovakian line. Scersk '97 marty He has a Rensselaer Medal that at first meant 30k/yr off tuition but due to stalling on his part has been upped to 35k. The offer was only $5000/yr back in 1993, IIRC. Man, even accounting for inflation, they're paying out serious money to Medal winners now. Back in 1960, I don’t remember any financial inducement with the medal. I came instead to Cornell where tuition was aby George64 - Other Sports
