Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Who's going to Western Michigan? - 21 years ago
Jim, I'm not taking it personally ... I was just giving John a hard time, as he's done to me many times in the past Sure, I would love for everyone to hear the broadcast, not just for egomaniacal purposes (although most any "entertainer" would prefer as wide an audience as possible), but because I hate the thought that you all have to miss out on Mike Schafer's comments, and playerby adamw - Hockey

It's always good to have radio material fall right into your lap. "Coach Mazzoleni, what did you make of Tyler Kolarik's comment that Cornell is a clutch and grab team with no skill?"by adamw - Hockey

So let me get this straight, John. You'll pay $400 on the spur of the moment for a plane ticket - but you won't shell out the $35 ($7 x 5 mos.) for Real Audio access?by adamw - Hockey
Re: A smarmy comment re: trademark protection - 21 years ago
Not true, as far as I know. Certainly not true in the case of USCHO.by adamw - Hockey

Thanks Jeff ... The logo is covered under Fair Use ... or perhaps another related copyright clause. But I'm certain it's a long-established media right to utilize logos for news purposes. You see them in the newspaper every day. I'd cite specifics, but my law books are home (you were probably kidding but figured I'd say it anyway)by adamw - Hockey
Re: Harvard(sucks) @ Lynah - 21 years ago
USCHO generally -- agree or disagree -- has waited until all teams played 16 teams to post PWR. To be honest, I don't know what will be the consideration now that the criteria has been eliminated. Perhaps it will just be whenever the programmers are able to re-write the program. And - John - if you need help on searching USCHO, just let me knowby adamw - Hockey

USCHO begins publishing PWR usually in early January.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Poll 11/11 - 21 years ago
I don't know who it was ... but since neither of them vote on the USCHO poll, that means they are a distinct possibility.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Poll 11/11 - 21 years ago
USA Today is coaches only. It's the USA Today/AHCA Coach's Poll (AHCA being the American Hockey Coaches Association) USCHO is 40 voters, a majority of which are coaches, but a good amount of which are writers, broadcasters, etc...by adamw - Hockey
Re: See Ya Higgins - 21 years ago
There's just been a clarification posted to that story. The appeal was not denied - because it's not an "appeal-able" action. The GF Herald had it wrong.by adamw - Hockey

Thanks to Grady for allowing me the chance to sit in with him over the years, and for assisting in my transition. As an undergrad at IC, one of my first experiences listening to Grady came during Spring Break -- sitting in our dorm room and listening to the 1991 Michigan-Cornell NCAA games. Yes ... instead of Cancun or Daytona Beach, I stayed in Ithaca and listened to Cornell hockey. That wasby adamw - Hockey

Petunia ... I don't think I write gossip, at least I hope not. Thanks for all the comments, pro and con ... Neil ... my sympathies. Bring your own food. The only thing good there is the beer.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Everblades Tourney - 21 years ago
The connection is ... Craig Brush (class of '72 or thereabouts) owns the Florida Everblades in partnership with Peter Karmanos of the Carolina Hurricanes. Brush lived in the Detroit area for many years, and had a successful business there, and knew Karmanos somehow that way, via the Detroit Compuware junior program. Brush's son, Matt, played at Princeton from 1994-98. He had other sons, but I dby adamw - Hockey

John - perhaps tomorrow you can teach me what Soporific means. Sorry, I'm not an Ivy Leaguer -- just an IC-grad wannabe. Thanks for the kind words Neal. I think I remember getting e-mail from you way back when, or reading messages somewhere. Mark has the dates correct, 1993-97. I spent 2 years in the UHL with Quad City (a double-A league, but we packed a 9300-seat arena every night, and theby adamw - Hockey

Not sure if I agree with Greg's assessment of NHL guys, but to answer his question, and to fill everyone in ... we are working on unveiling a couple ex-JV players (circa 1980s) to be analysts for the home broadcasts. On the road, it will be mostly solo, with the occasional help of a crack committee of ace fill-ins. Looking forward to Friday.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Stampede Result Switched to Tie - 21 years ago
John, et al ... Prompted by John's sleuthing into hockey-L, I actually spoke to Steve Hagwell today about this, as well as a couple others with knowledge of how the decision came to be. Their response is actually a valid one. The rule changed slightly between 1998 and now. Last year, the rule was added that allows for 5-minute OT followed by a shootout in the case of ties during in-season touby adamw - Hockey

If anyone wants a ride to Columbus, from any point between there and Philadelphia, let me know. Maybe that will help someone be able to make it who otherwise wouldn't. Contact me at columnist@uscho.comby adamw - Hockey
