Re: pepsi arena - 21 years ago
OK, I'm reading this thread - and had to relay a story since few others can appreciate this. EVERY college football game I have ever attended in my life *that wasn't on a press pass* has ended in a regulation tie. 5 of them. Hard to believe, but I swear it is true. Anyone want to calculate the odds of that? They are: 1. Ithaca at Wagner, 1988 NCAA playoffs (I attended just about every otherby adamw - Hockey

1995-96, John Madden (Michigan) had 10 SHGs, believed to be the NCAA single-season record. For his career, I believe it was 23.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 Dartmouth 1 FINAL - 21 years ago
In response to John, the last hat trick I remember before Chartrand's was, in the 1994 play-in Tuesday playoff game against Princeton ... either Lopatka or Bumstead. Not sure which. Previous to that, the one I remember was Ryan Hughes vs. Boston College in 1990. Perhaps others know if there were any in between the gaps. Has anyone ever compiled a list of all time hat tricks? That would be intby adamw - Hockey

Sorry ... I did misspeak ... Hornby's penalty vs. Colgate was indeed a game misconduct, not a DQ.by adamw - Hockey

Re: Spencer Penrose Award - 21 years ago
Clarkson was indeed ranked No. 2 as of March 10, 1997 USA Today poll. Finished ranked No. 6 after the regionals. ATR/USCHO had a poll that year, but unfortunately, no records of it exist, as far as I have been able to dig up. As a result, I believe the ECAC press release earlier this year was wrong, because I don't remember mention of this. At the time, I believe it was stated that the last tby adamw - Hockey

I believe the Northern Arizona dude was Greg Adams (one of the two). I could go to hockeydb.com and look it up, but I'm too lazy... If you click on "team histories" or something like that, there's a way to see all the alumni of any particular team.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Hobey Baker Fan Voting - 21 years ago
I can tell you that voting once per day, and teaming up to vote for whomever, is within the rules. The "stuffing" they are referring to, is registering multiple e-mail addresses ... I've seen instances of dozens, simultaneously. I can also tell you that whatever "stuffing" may have been done, has not been checked for yet - so if there is cheating going on, you could see voteby adamw - Hockey

Ray Ferraro did not play at UConn. That was Todd Krygier you're probably thinking of. Ferraro is a Trail Smoke Eater.by adamw - Hockey

Re: Everglades Impressions - 21 years ago
Clarification: I actually said perhaps the hardest "college hockey" hit I've ever seen ... ranking with Dave Burke's throttling of Dartmouth's Tom Finks in 1989, at the red line, 10 feet in front of the scorer's table. And if I didn't say it, I should have added: "open-ice hit" to the list of qualifiers. Actually, I didn't know it was Finks, until this hit recently came upby adamw - Hockey
Radio issues - 21 years ago
Just wanted to pass along apologies for the radio transmission troubles this weekend. It was a highly-anticipated weekend of games, and none of us like to see that happen. I had a pretty knowledgable in-house tech guy look things over, and he concluded it was his own arena's phone lines that were the issue. However, since other stations didn't have trouble, I can't rule out it was an equipmentby adamw - Hockey
Re: Dec 9 Polls - 21 years ago
The lineage of the USCHO.com poll goes way back ... it's sort of like the New Jersey Devils ... started as the Kansas City Scouts -> Colorado Rockies -> New Jersey It started as the Albany Times-Union Poll. I'm not sure when that started, but it was before 1988. Somewhere in the early 90s, it was taken over by Tim Leonard, RPI beat writer for the Troy Record. In 1996, Tim left the paperby adamw - Hockey

Re: World Junior Championships - 21 years ago
USCHO article is fixed, although I can't tell you why it's not linking to Michigan at the moment. "SSI" isn't the right terminology, but it's along those lines. We have a sophisticated homemade content management system, so there's more going on there.by adamw - Hockey

Re: World Junior Championships - 21 years ago
John, Numerous players play in the World Juniors every year, so it could be anyone. Most of the US roster is filled with college players every year. North Dakota tends to have older freshmen, so they don't usually get hit. The teams that recruit true freshmen get hurt worse. By the same token, Lowell's season effectively ended last year when three of their players went to the Olympics to plaby adamw - Hockey
Re: World Junior Championships - 21 years ago
Correction: Jason Blake did not play in the world juniors. By the time he was at North Dakota, he'd already transferred from Ferris State, and was well over 20 years old. The point remains, however, that there are countless stars at perennial powerhouse schools that lose players every year and deal with it. You might want to go to USCHO and read any BU or BC game recap from a holiday tournamenby adamw - Hockey

Re: Mining the Crimson - 21 years ago
There's nothing inherantly wrong with AM. In fact, an AM signal at the same wattage goes 10 times farther than FM. It's all about the wattage though, and whether AM stations in smaller towns have to power down so as not to interfere with stations on the same frequency in larger towns. If they don't have to power down, or there's not a station on the same frequency interfering with it from a laby adamw - Hockey
Re: Who's going to Western Michigan? - 21 years ago
Jim, I'm not taking it personally ... I was just giving John a hard time, as he's done to me many times in the past Sure, I would love for everyone to hear the broadcast, not just for egomaniacal purposes (although most any "entertainer" would prefer as wide an audience as possible), but because I hate the thought that you all have to miss out on Mike Schafer's comments, and playerby adamw - Hockey
