Re: NC$$ games Sunday 3/29/09 - 15 years ago
anyone know if there some sort of contingency to show the cornell game in the event that bu-unh goes to ot? maybe put it on ESPNC? i kind of doubt it though because there hasn't been one to this point in the tournament.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Northeastern - 15 years ago
Cornell went hard after Thiessen. So did North Dakota. Interesting that he chose Northeastern and has been instrumental in bringing them to the national scene. Have watched him a few times this year and he is extremely good.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Bracket Predictions - 15 years ago
Cornell catches big break. Instead of getting UMD that is playing their best hockey of the season, they get a team that has lost 3 of 5 heading in. I would have thought the top seed in the regional plays the 4:00 game.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

Could be wrong but I think Greg Rathusny was in a very serious car accident the summer before he was to be a freshman at Cornell.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

After going down 3-0 three minutes into the game, the Flames fight tooth and nail, come back and win 4-3.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Who's staying, who's going? - 16 years ago
KeithK Let's assume that Edmonton wants Riley to sign this summer and he is inclined to stay. Isn't there a dollar cap on what the Oilers can offer him for his initial contract? If I'm remembering that right then wouldn't he be pretty likely to get the same offer a year from now? What I'm getting at is how much inducement can a team provide to a kis who wants to stay in school? I guess theyby calgARI '07 - Hockey

Has Cornell ever carried four goaltenders before?by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Consy: Colgate 2 Cornell 4 (final) - 16 years ago
Jacob '06I'm pretty sure SLU carried four goaltenders this year. I don't think it is unheard of. Not unheard of, just extremely rare.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Consy: Colgate 2 Cornell 4 (final) - 16 years ago
DeltaOne81 I've no doubt it is, but I wonder i that's because its extremely rare for an team to have recruited 4 goalies in 4 years. I'd wonder in those few cases where they have, whether its rare or not or them to keep them on the roster. Well Davenport is a pretty special case. Obviously he was recruited the first time but I wonder how much he was pursued to come back. Schafer was defiby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Consy: Colgate 2 Cornell 4 (final) - 16 years ago
DeltaOne81 Is there an Ivy/ECAC/NCAA limit to the number of people you can have on the team? I know there is for how many are dressed of course, but is there any reason they couldn't have 4 goalies officially on the team in practices even if they don't travel, etc. I don't know of any limit but it is extremely rare for any team at any level to carry four goaltenders.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Consy: Colgate 2 Cornell 4 (final) - 16 years ago
May be DiLeo's swan song playing hockey at Cornell. With Garman coming in and no one graduating, I'm guessing either DiLeo or Davenport will not be on the team next year.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

David Jones, who would have been a senior at Dartmouth this year, will be on a line with Sakic and Forsberg tonight.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Union QF post-series - 16 years ago
Very hard fought series. Union definitely had possession more but I thought the high quality scoring chances actually favored Cornell. Fontas and Mugford were warriors for Cornell this weekend. Both got banged up pretty good but kept fighting through it and I think were probably Cornell's two most valuable players during the course of the two games. They both made several key defensive playsby calgARI '07 - Hockey

Roy 82calgARI '07....I've ripped on the fourth line quite a bit for being incapable offensively... Because fourth lines are usually offensive powerhouses? (Pardon me, but it seems to be Rip on Ari Week. I figured I would join in the fun) Cornell fourth lines have been very capable offensively over the last several years which made Cornell a very tough team to play against from a defensiveby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: ECAC R2 G1: Union 2 Cornell 3 (Final) - 16 years ago
Good win tonight. Both teams fought very hard. Mrazek played really well for Union. I've ripped on the fourth line quite a bit for being incapable offensively but they really got it done tonight - grind it out playoff games favor the grind it out players. Great atmosphere tonight. Gonna be a very tough one tomorrow. Will have to match Union's desperation.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

beejj Still waiting with "baited" breath (spelling confirmed by my reliable fishing historian)on the word from your "reliable" source.... Sorry if it wasn't clear but CMCWO 44 was my source. He put forth his explanation. At least get fired up about something hockey-related rather than the derivation of a term. Embarrassing.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

Beeeej If the totality of my responses to you in the past does not include anything you consider ridicule, I defer to your interpretation and apologize for implying otherwise. There's a difference between intended ridicule and actual ridicule.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

Beeeej It ain't me, if that's what you're asking. I'm perfectly comfortable ridiculing Ari under my own name when it's called for. Ridiculing me? You must mean disagreeing with me.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

ugartecalgARI '07 Busch league cheapshot This metaphor did not come from NASCAR. Thanks for the weekend analysis, though. The term came from the baseball busch leagues of the 1920's I believe which spells b-u-s-c-h.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Round 1: Post-series Thread - 16 years ago
They got better each game this weekend and it came together nicely tonight. That late goal in the first period may prove to be the most important of the season. After killing that 5-on-3 and weathering quite a bit of Dartmouth momentum during the second half of the first period that was a key cash-in for a team that does not always see the results of strong play on the scoreboard. It was keyby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: 3/8/08: Dartmouth 5 Cornell 3 (final) - 16 years ago
Much better performance tonight for Cornell despite the result. They had a lot more energy and got after it a lot more. Dartmouth had four great chances and scored on all of them. Cornell had about 15 and scored on three of them. Devine was outstanding and put forth one of the better individual performances I've ever seen at the college level. It wasn't that Scrivens was bad (only the thirdby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: 3/7/08: Dartmouth 2 Cornell 3 (Final) - 16 years ago
DisplacedCornellian Jesus, you're a ball of negativity. What do you get out of watching Cornell hockey? It certainly doesn't seem like you take any pleasure in it. Sure, I can see being upset or critical once in a while, but it seems that ALL YOU DO is criticize and complain. We all know this isn't the 02-03 or 04-05 team. Try to take some joy in the moments when they do succeed, instead oby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: How far Cornell hasn't fallen this year - 16 years ago
TrotskybillhowardThis is shaping up as Cornell's least successful season in years.Well, they now have 1 more playoff victory than last year's team, and as many as the 2004 team. I forgot - how many 12 seeds did the 04 and 07 teams play?by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: 3/7/08: Dartmouth 2 Cornell 3 (Final) - 16 years ago
TrotskyThe memo called. It said, "we won." OK well they sure lacked intensity for a playoff game against a vastly inferior opponent. These guys are dreaming if they think they are going to just flick the 'on switch' for intensity next weekend. It was tied going into the third period tonight and they scored on a gift powerplay in the third period. They played well in the third pby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: 3/7/08: Dartmouth 2 Cornell 3 (Final) - 16 years ago
Someone better get this team a memo that the playoffs started tonight. Generally brutal intensity throughout the game and more like an exhibition against a Canadian school than a playoff game at Lynah. They did play a lot better in the third period and it was good to see Schafer was getting the Nash-Greening line out a lot more than he was last Saturday indicating they were going to try and wby calgARI '07 - Hockey

It took him about 60 games, but Tony Romano finally eclipsed his point total from last year at Cornell.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Hahvahd 3 @ Cornell 1 Postgame - 16 years ago
Scersk '97 Outside of Chartrand/Cooney, who seemed to have a talent for it and were certainly supremely conditioned, Schafer has not been one, at least in my memory, to put top players on the kill. Don't forget Vesce and Bâby.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
