Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell 4 at Dartmouth 1 postgame - 16 years ago
With Mugford expected back, Scali wouldn't have played anyways.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 at Brown 1 (postgame) - 16 years ago
Al DeFlorio "'It was a big opportunity for us to go on the road and keep it simple, and that's just what we did,' Cornell coach Mike Schafer said." I hope Schafer realizes that with the group he has, they will need to keep it simple no matter where they are playing to be successful.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 at Brown 1 (postgame) - 16 years ago
Another pretty even game where Cornell had the edge in chances. The Brown goal was soft but Cornell rebounded nicely. Last year, they would completely fold after one of their goaltenders would let in a beachball. This team is harder working and far more focused than last year's. The defensive zone is now a team effort instead of Romano trying to stickhandle out of the zone. The forwards arby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Yale Post Game - 16 years ago
Back from the game. This is a much different Cornell team than we have seen the last several years. The depth in talent is just not there as it has been. Still, I liked what I saw tonight. The coaching staff has gotten back to basics, really focusing on details all over the ice, specifically in the defensive zone. The coverage in the D zone was very good and Cornell was very effective in cby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: USCHO... - 16 years ago
Whatever he would have to say about Cornell would be less informed than what anybody who has actually watched the team play would have to say. USCHO is as good of a resource to use as the weekly poll in determining anything.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 vs. Princeton 3 (3rd Period) - 16 years ago
scoop85 That's really my point. If we were truly outplayed I would have real concern, but it's apparent we have some talent on this team. If Scali puts in the puck in the third period (I don't know how he didn't score on the play), we're probably talking about a gritty comeback win. Talk to me after ten games; then we can have a real sense of what we're looking at. Sure we'd love to be 2-by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 vs. Princeton 1 (1st period) - 16 years ago
TownieAl DeFlorioNice shift by Nash. He actually held onto the puck while allowing time for something to develop. Radical concept. He definitely showed some poise and hockey sense tonight. I also thought Nash was good tonight - definitely Cornell's best offensive player tonight. Thinks the game at another level. He'll start to get some points when the guys on the ice with him figure out wby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 vs. Princeton 3 (3rd Period) - 16 years ago
BeeeejThe next few games will be very telling, but I liked their effort. I too liked their effort. The team just doesn't have the talent IMO. I like that this group seems to be more blue collar and hard working compared to last year but there is no depth and very little top end talent. It'll be an easier team to cheer for than last season but I think there will be less for which to cheer.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 vs. Princeton 3 (3rd Period) - 16 years ago
Gonna be a very very long year for this team.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 vs. Princeton 2 (3rd Period) - 16 years ago
Extremely soft goal. Scali and Davenport the goats tonight.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 1 vs. Princeton 2 (3rd Period) - 16 years ago
Scali has absolutely gotta cash in on those. Two blown chances tonight for him.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 vs. Princeton 1 (2nd Period) - 16 years ago
They look good to start the period.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 vs. Princeton 1 (1st period) - 16 years ago
Got better towards the end but this team is going to struggle badly to score goals.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 vs. Princeton 1 (1st period) - 16 years ago
Wow, they look terrible.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 vs. Princeton 1 (1st period) - 16 years ago
Pretty high quality defensive zone coverage there.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Princeton pre-game - 16 years ago
Just spent 35 bucks on this redcast thing and it sucks as many of you are indicating.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-RIT postgame - 16 years ago
So they've played the three of the worst teams they'll play this year and have 1-1-1 record scoring once in two of the games.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Ottawa Postgame - 16 years ago
I was able to make it to the game today though I didn't see Red-White or the Friday game. This team is much different than last year's. There seems to be a lot more emphasis on roles with this group than last year which is evident but the crash and bang momentum line of Nichols-Mugford-Devin. That line started every period and went on after every goal for and against. I didn't think I would lby calgARI '07 - Hockey

Pegoraro played with the St. Mikes Buzzards.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - October 2007 - 16 years ago
Murray beat the crap out of Rypien tonight and it totally changed the complexion of the game in San Jose's favor.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Red-White Scrimmage - 16 years ago
How'd Nash look? Doug '08Team looked very rough around the edges, as is usual for the red white game. There didn't seem to be any distinct lines or defensive pairings, as Schafer mixed them up all game it seemed. Contrary to years past, the teams were fairly balanced and play got physical along the boards at times. Of all the newcomers, I must say Mike Devin impressed me the most with his hby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
DILLIGAFYou are correct in that he has but one year to "make it". He has nothing left to fall back on. Without a great season in the OHL, he will have a tough time coming back as an overager. The next stop will be the ihl league Right now in 6 games he has only one point - an assist. He clearly was brought in to put up points and right now he isn't. They won't wait long for hiby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
London is a high-flying run-and-gun team that puts very little emphasis on defensive detail. That is what theoretically makes it a good place for Romano. He must be kicking himself now. He only has one year to prove himself there whereas he would have had up to three more at Cornell to build on a decent freshman season. Smart kid.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
Schremp a real hockey player? Have you ever watched him at the pro level? Will never make the NHL as a regular. Pure garbage. I like the Hunters a lot and they have done some great things in London but Robbie Schremp is not one of them.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Milo - 16 years ago
Milo will also be playing in an International Jewish Tournament in Israel this summer. Other members of Team USA include Dov Grumet-Morris and Nathan Davis. Also, David Adler is on the roster. Dylan Reese was supposed to play but he had to drop out. The GM's of Team USA are Dave Taylor and Neil Smith.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
Josh '99Pretty much everyone acknowledges that Vanek's defensive play improved by leaps and bounds from 2005-06 to 2006-07. Well, he tried harder in the defensive zone but in terms of his actual mental approach, it takes longer than just one season to make such a significant improvement. Any way you look at it, no matter how much he improved, he isn't the best defensive forward in the league dby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
wewantmore You lost all credibility when you claimed +/- was a useless statistic. Look at the top 3 in the NHL last year - Vanek, Alfredsson, Lidstrom ... pretty good two way players. And you just lost all credibility when you called Vanek a pretty good two-way player. That is the same Vanek who was scratched in the 2006 playoffs because of his horrible defensive play. Are we to believe thaby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
You can throw as many stats as you want but it doesn't change what I and most others SAW when they watched him play. He sucked defensively and made terrible decisions with the puck. For some reason, Schafer and the other coaches let him get away with his stickhandling around his own net for the entire season and did not hold him responsible for not buying into team defense. He was still a topby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
cufan4ever How could you make a statement like that. Milo is a good player but D-1 is the highest level he can play. Romano on the other hand has won at every level he has competed at. He is invited to the U20 USA team tryouts which he will probaby make, drafted by NJ played on 3 US National teams. What else does he have to prove, especailly to a fan who wishes he or she could do what he does.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
