Re: Any update...? - 17 years ago
pfibiger Denver's brought in a number of walk-on forward recruits for 2007, so I wonder if the decision is Cornell for 2007 or DU/UND for '08? Seems like it'd be a waste for him to spend another year in the BCHL.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

CowbellGuy Marc Habscheid had some pretty good teammates on the Edmonton Oilers in '81-'82, too. How many of them did he outscore?by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Defections? - 17 years ago
He got more of an opportunity than Connors did. Now two of Connors's teammates from Nichols are headed to the Frozen Four playing prominent roles for Michigan State.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

Roy 82Speaking of Cashman, what gives with him not even making the Hobey Top 10, let alone the hat Trick? What do we see in him that others don't? People who know very little about college hockey and only have exposure to some of the teams make the decisions. The Hobey thus loses a lot of its luster.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

Re: "And Then There Was One" - 17 years ago
Pretty impressive showing by the ECAC. Their teams have scored 1 goal in the last 11 periods they have played in the NCAA Tournament. I thought this conference was making progress but it just looks like Atlantic Hockey catching up rather than the ECAC catching up with anyone.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: New Recruit for 2008 - 17 years ago
ithacatAlso noticed that Austin Smith was named to the 1st team that year. Smith is now at Gunnery, and will be heading to Colgate in 2008. The Gunnery is my alma mater and I spent some time with Smith a couple weeks ago when we went to Quinnipiac-Union game. He played a lot with Jillson growing up and I know the Gunnery pushed hard to get Jillson when he was looking at prep schools. Smith isby calgARI '07 - Hockey

This kid got cut by Salisbury. I've heard the rumor that he was coming to Cornell but I have a lot of trouble believing it if he couldn't make the Salisbury team.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

Podcast won't be up for a couple days. Because of Spring Break, we won't be back for three weeks. The show will shift focus to the NHL at that point. Thanks to all who helped out and participated. Obviously would have been more fun if the team had a more successful season.by calgARI '07 - Hockey

Re: Quinnipiac at Cornell post-game 1 - 17 years ago
In general, Cornell has played the same garbage hockey the last three games that got them winless in seven games. They aren't playing badly at all, but they aren't attacking or coming even close to doing so offensively. I lost count of the amount of times where Cornell retreated coming through the neutral zone, allowing Quinnipiac to re-set defensively. Cornell's offense is either firing on alby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
I liked when Romano had the puck at the Q blueline with a possible 3-on-2 and 5 seconds later, he was behind the Cornell net. Surprisingly, he couldn't get the puck out of the zone and Quinnipiac ended up with some sustained pressure as a result.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac at Cornell post-game 1 - 17 years ago
BeeeejAs for the officiating, I thought Hansen was pretty good, but the Assistant Refs were atrocious. I've never seen more incorrect offsides calls in a single game. I'm not sure if it was more one than the other, but whoever it was seemed to be calling offsides when he thought it would typically happen, not actually watching the players' skates in relation to the blueline. In addition, I doby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac at Cornell post-game - 17 years ago
It was gloved in. Cornell didn't argue it at all which is pretty rare for them. That tells me they got the call right. Officiating was good.by calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
The Rancor i see him as a moulson-esque type in the next few years. I guess I don't see the comparison. Moulson has vastly superior hockey sense and really relied on his positioning and ability to find the open ice. That was the case even in his first year. Romano is far more skilled than Moulson, and his skating is miles ahead of where Moulson's was even last season, but he doesn't have aby calgARI '07 - Hockey

dre1614 I think he is actually faster than Joe N. and as for St Louis, i think he has been pretty much the same player for years, it just so happened that the NHL went towards the up tempo game, so the small speedy guys took advantage. I think Tony has a pretty easy shot to make the NHL, and a decent shot to be a great player. IMO St-Louis broke out well before the New NHL arrived. He sby calgARI '07 - Hockey
TJ Fox Goes Pro - 17 years ago
USHR reporting. Probably the best player ever to play at Union, TJ Fox, has signed a pro contract with San Jose. Supposedly, there were seven other teams bidding for his services. Tim Burke who runs the amateur scouting in San Jose loves those college guys. Huge blow to Union. I really don't know if they'll ever to be able to compete in the ECACHL unless they build a Quinnipiac-esque facilby calgARI '07 - Hockey

Josh '99In case I wasn't clear on this point, I certainly agree that Donato deserves credit for what he's done in his first couple of years. I don't think you're being realistic in your assessment of the talent he inherited though. Harvard's team in Donato's first year had 9 draft picks, including some pretty good (by ECAC standards, anyway) talent like Tom Cavanagh, Jon Pelle, Dylan Reese, Petby calgARI '07 - Hockey

daredevilcu16-3-4 since Thanksgiving, I'll take that kind of "inconsistency" anytime. Clarkson is also 10-3-4 at home this year, so while they aren't AS good at home as they were last year, that's still pretty darn good. Could Harvard take the series? Yes, but it's going to take a stellar effort, and I don't think they have a distinct edge in any specific area. Tobe played well theby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: College Hockey News: "Red Alert" - 17 years ago
Josh '99Huh? Ted Donato, despite his promising start, is still in only his third year doing coaching of any sort. George Roll has been the head coach at Clarkson for four years now, was the head coach at Oswego for six years before that (including an appearance at the DIII championship game in 2003), and was an assistant under Mark Morris at Clarkson for six years before *that*. Re: College Hockey News: "Red Alert" - 17 years ago
Jim Hyla I like these choices, with goaltending possibly making the difference. Colgate can certainly steal games that way and they may have 2 lines now. I think Clarkson 'tending should be better but if not, well? Yeah, Dekanich is capable of stealing any series. Even though St. Lawrence has only lost once at home, everything changes in the playoffs. Colgate has a ton of playoff exerpience wby calgARI '07 - Hockey

Re: Big Red using bye week to get healthy - 17 years ago
redice It seems that both of these teams can be very good or very, shall we say, not so good. We & Q fans really don't know which team is going to show up, for CU or Q. I have a feeling that one team is going to dominate the other. With their inconsistencies, I don't know which one will be the dominator or dominee (is that a word?). Well it is the playoffs so I think both will be playby calgARI '07 - Hockey
Re: OT: Penguins Moving - 17 years ago
ebilmesI found this book pretty provocative and interesting when I read it in the fall: Among other issues, it discussed whether there was any actual benefit to states/cities funding new arenas for sports teams. The conclusion Zirin reached was similar to what Ben Rocky said in his post above. Take CB 603 with Kahn - Collective Bargaining and Economics of Sports. Re: OT: Penguins Moving - 17 years ago
KeithKWhy would anyone voluntarily move a pro-sports franchise to Kansas City? Ever looked at the Royals over the last 20 years? Well they just built a ridiculous, state of the art arena in a rapidly developing area of town. They also have sold something like 15,000 season tickets and every single luxury box for an NHL team should one come. Great situation IMO especially when you have the beby calgARI '07 - Hockey
