Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Clarkson Game Thread - 2 years ago
Loved hearing the band play When the Saints Come Marching In at Clarkson. They sound fantastic this weekend - so glad they made the trip.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Red Hot game thread and watch - 2 years ago
Listening via WHCU. No engineer? Ads interrupt the game, interviews - like they were scheduled/programmed in advance. Missed the second goal. Jason doesn’t seem to know.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Lynah Documentary This Weekend - 4 years ago
Can’t resist a chance to say thank you to Pete Shier, whom I worshipped as an Ithaca High School student in the 70s. Cornell hockey made some bleak high school years better! I moved away long ago but have kept in touch with Lynah (my parents kept their season tickets for decades afterwards). Looking forward to being back next weekend!by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Ticket info & Who's going to Worcester? - 6 years ago
7 of us in the extended Hayes clan in section 125 (bought via Ticketmaster).by lhayes - Hockey

Audio only will be on the Ivy League Digital Network. Not great but something.by lhayes - Hockey

No post game show? I missed most of the game and was looking forward to Jason's recap.by lhayes - Hockey

Tickets for Princeton games are now on sale on their web site. They're selling the games individually, not as a package.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: CU at RPI - 11 years ago
And we only got the 8th and last playoff spot in 1980 with a win in the final RS game. IIRC, that win was against Harvard, but maybe my memory is gilding the lily. I'm pretty sure I went to Boston 2 weekends in a row.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: The Frozen Apple - Cornell vs. B.C 1974-75 Tournament - 11 years ago
I still treasure a Christmas ornament with that uniform I bought at a church craft fair in the mid-70s. It's a Cornell hockey player whose head is a ping pong ball and whose body is made with pieces of an egg carton glued together, holding a hockey stick. The uniform is red and white of course, with that funky C with the long underline. This is a beloved object, happily hung on the tree everyby lhayes - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women's Ice Hockey: March 2012 - 12 years ago
I started listening when the game started, but turned the game off after BU scored the first two goals. I turned it back in a few minutes ago, was delighted to see CU up 7-4. Now BU has scored another two goals. I'm turning off for good now -- I'm obviously bad for our team. I hope those of you with better karma can help us pull through!by lhayes - Hockey
Re: An eLynah Engagement - 12 years ago
Congratulations! This is a great story! I met my husband online, and fessed up to Cornell hockey mania in an early email, before I'd laid eyes on him. He responded favorably -- suggested a date for the Princeton game -- which helped me decide to meet him. He promptly became a Cornell hockey fan, and has now been one for eight years. Not as good as your story though!by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Jersey Mockups - 12 years ago
Anyone know the story of the carved wooden huggy bear now in the Lynah lobby, just past the ticket office? Where'd it come from, and why? It's competently done, but really makes you wonder how that dumb bear got trapped in that C. I do love Grumpy (skeptical) Bear.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: UNH Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
It seemed to me last weekend that the boards in Albany were very rough and unpredictable -- the puck was often not where the guys expected it. The ice also seemed soft or something, contributing to passes being less crisp than they should have been. More practice with these conditions might help.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Albany Roll Call II: Electric Boogaloo (NCAA Regionals) - 14 years ago
Will be there Friday with 4 others. My husband (trainbow) and I will be there for all 3 games regardless of Cornell's success. Sockralex, congrats on your engagement. We spent the Saturday after Cornell's 2004 Friday quarter-final victory over Clarkson fantasizing about getting married at center ice between periods at the ECACs in Albany the following weekend (and he's not even a Cornellian!by lhayes - Hockey
Re: 2010 NCAA hockey regional ticket situation - 14 years ago
Just called the box office to ask if we'll be able to leave and re-enter between games on Friday. They spent a long time investigating and finally said "yes." Let's hope they know what they're talking about.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Albany Roll Call - 14 years ago
I'll be there Saturday with my husband (trainbow) and 3 others.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Why the hate/dislike of Cornell? - 14 years ago
I was struck by that headline too, but when I went back to Moy's prior blog posts, I found he had a whole list of tentative conclusions about who's in/ who's out. He'd tentatively concluded both Cornell and Yale are definitely in (along with a number of other conclusions). He then invited readers to send in counter-examples to his conclusions, as part of mutual education. I wouldn't be surprisby lhayes - Hockey
Re: Other Scores, Friday March 12 - 14 years ago
Quick scan of the evening's scores: Home teams were losing in most conferences (awaiting WCHA results in particular). Should really shake things up in the playoffs, and make for great internet listening.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Pre-Harvard Info - 14 years ago
In case folks missed the news on another thread, the Athletics ticket office still has tickets for this weekend's games. Who'da thunk it? I hadn't even thought it was worth calling.by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Where is Sean Whitney? - 14 years ago
Jim Hyla Most memorably was last year at Grand Rapids when Dick Bertrand stopped to talk. What's Bertrand up to these days, did you find out?by lhayes - Hockey
Re: Cornell 5 Brown 3, postgame thread - 14 years ago
imafrshmn Beating Yale would be an exorcism of a hockey demon--certainly for Scrivens. It also might be our only way of getting to the tourney as an at-large. Yes, Scrivens needs to win one against Yale this year, either now or in Albany ... preferably both. At least one post behind Scrivens tonight, I thought I heard another; some last weekend, too, including two on Friday. So things are gettby lhayes - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Princeton. Any info? - 14 years ago
I'll be there plus 9. This year the price of the Cornell game is the same as all other Princeton games ($10) -- unlike the last year or so, when they upped the price of the Cornell game, presumably to gouge Cornell fans. Any idea what made them see sense?by lhayes - Hockey
Penalties question - 14 years ago
Can anyone explain what happened with the Kennedy and R Nash penalties at 12:32 of the 2nd period? At 12:06, Gallagher and Bourgea had gone off with matching minors, leaving us at 4 a side. At 12:32, Kennedy and Nash went off for holding and slashing, respectively. Since we can't have fewer than 3 players (and the scoreboard only has room for 2 penalties a side), they only put Kennedy's penaltby lhayes - Hockey
