He's dressed as the seventh defenseman tonight.

Been a while since a Cornell defenseman scored on a breakaway! Of course there's this picture of a certain defenseman scoring on a breakaway in Lake Placid in 1970! (No - I didn't take it...ah well!)

But of course being 2 men down is difficult. You remind me I've still got to ask CU if I can get a copy of that pix, wonderful.Larry72

On the wall at Bartel's there are a number of pix of classic sports moments. One of them on the field house side of the bb court shows Lodboa scoring the short-handed goal. For all who were there it's forever in our memory. That's why I wear his 14 jersey at away games. At least once a year someone comes up to me to discuss it. Most memorably was last year at Grand Rapids when Dick Bertrand stopped to talk.TimV
What picture?
A natural hat trick in the third period to win 6-4 for a perfect season. And he had an even strength, power play, and 2 men down shorty. Wonderful.

Well said. I still get the "tingles" thinking about that period. Next to the USA-Russia game in 1980, that game and those plays are the most memorable to me. It's the 40th anniversary of Lodboa's game and Cornell's last NCAA championship and the 30th anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice".

Could you post a photo of it? I snapped one for my cell phone background once, but it's long gone. It's a great photo.

That's what's listed in the on-line alumni directory.
After many years of coaching ice hockey at both Cornell and Ferris State universities, Dick Bertrand founded Hockey College Ltd., a hockey and skating products and services company. The products, including synthetic ice, skillpad, and skateaid, are used to learn and practice the fundamentals of the game. The company operates hockey schools, rinks, and youth hockey associations. Dick can be reached at (616) 949-9966; or fax, (616) 464-4443; or e-mail rlbertr@dellepro.com. He lives in East Grand Rapids,MI.
On the other hand, he is also listed as an associate with Pondera Advisors LLC "A Leadership Consulting Practice." That web site is dated 2006.

I can confirm that Dick Bertrand is involved in a business that sells synthetic ice. Just by coincidence, I wanted to try some out for a work-related project (If I told you more then I would have to kill you ...yada.yada...). We had a nice chat about CU hockey and he sent me some nice samples. He seemed to be glad to get out of the rat race of Div. I recruiting.

We talked mostly hockey when I was in the conversation. He's doing a lot with youth hockey in Michigan.
