Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: No way... - 21 years ago
Well... FWIW... the "Death sisters" (twins?) (both Ithaca High School '84) pronounced their name "Deeth" (spelled "Death" throughout junior/senior high school. I'm not sure if they are related to Murray, but they both(?) played hockey locally (in Ithaca) during their school years. Of course, if he were their father, then -- time-line-wise -- Murray would've had toby zg88 - Hockey

Jon Getty '96 wrote: ...probably someone from the stone ages of hockey, or from a team that played a short, squishy schedule & shut everyone out. Hmmm... like Cornell in '07 and '08? (six total games -- no goals against). I dunno 'bout the "squishy" part (for all I know, Rochester coulda been a hockey powerhouse back then...), but I'll bet whoever tended goal for the Big Red duby zg88 - Hockey

Any script that adds "(sucks)" to Hahvahd should ALSO correct any misspellings of Hahvahd (such as "Harvard", which I'm seeing FAR too often on this forum...).by zg88 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 21 years ago
Hee-hee. I figured it was a sure thing that either you or Al would offer some commentary on my characterization of the (remaining) pool of potential Jim Brown lax witnesses. Mission accomplished. OK... now I've atoned for my naughtiness -- Option #1 has been duly implemented. (BTW, I was merely going by AARP membership requirements!) )by zg88 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 21 years ago
Thanks, John. I like your "solution"! (OK, that's it -- the debate is officially settled!) ) P.S. -- If anyone's interested in exploring the "who's the greatest lax player of all time, Jim Brown or someone else?" debate, then do the following search at the LaxPower Forum: "Jim Brown" (exact phrase / all dates). Re: [NHL] I went to a hockey game... - 21 years ago
All this talk makes me be only more grateful for college sports. Amen to that! (Especially the Ivies) (Although "big-time" college football and basketball differ from the pros, in my mind, only in the degree of compensation and in the college teams' lack of "portability".)by zg88 - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament Expansion - 21 years ago
I want to start by saying that I wasn't even born when Jim Brown played lacrosse at Syracuse. So, while Al and Jim both could've theoretically attended lacrosse games featuring the Jim-Brown-led Orangemen, and thus they could theoretically provide eyewitness accounts, I am unfortunately too young to have 1st-hand knowledge... sorry... Going strictly on 2nd-hand knowledge, therefore...by zg88 - Hockey
Re: Dave Ferguson: C.U. *lax* star?? - 21 years ago
Wow... that was a delayed reaction, indeed! It took some noggin joggin' to remember what I had been talking about... But, I now believe that I meant, "Here's your chance, Beeeej, to mock me for asking a 'stupid question'." (You had asked a self-described "stupid question" earlier (something about why there had been a 2nd OT in the CU-Brown lax game), and I had respondby zg88 - Hockey

Dave Ferguson: C.U. *lax* star?? - 22 years ago
Lacrosse, All-Ivy, 1st team: 1961: Dave Ferguson (D), Cornell HUH?!?! This can't possibly be the Dave Ferguson who was co-capt. of the Cornell hockey team in '67! Re: Stupid question - 22 years ago
Ummm... if that's somehow a trick/insider/philosophical question, then my answer is: "I don't get it." If it's truly a "stupid question", then my answer is: "Because the game was still tied after one overtime." Am I missing something here??by zg88 - Hockey

Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
...Or, change the manual itself! ...Which is apparently what they've just done! In a stunning stroke of common sense (albeit sneaky and a little late in the game), "the committee" has dumped the obsolete regional bids. It's just too bad that they had to wait until people were tearing their hair out over it to act. Why couldn't they have asked themselves, before the season even beganby zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Two important results went against Cornell's chances for an autobid this weekend: Matt, you mean "at-large" bid, right? There are about seven schools, including Cornell, vying for what amounts to a measly two available at-large spots (Virginia, Hopkins, and Syracuse are locks for three, leaving only two (thanks to this "western" crap!!!)). It's absurd to have a separate &quby zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Brown beats Dartmouth, 11-8, to remain in the hunt for an Ivy title. That game was eerily similar to the C.U.-Princeton game. Check it out: The game got off to a slow start, with Dartmouth (Cornell) scoring first. A 2nd-Q surge by Brown (Princeton) gave them a 4-3 lead at the half. Brown (Princeton) dominated the 3rd-Q by a 5-0 margin, giving them a 9-3 lead going into the final Q. A Dartmoby zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
I had heard, a while back (a few weeks ago??), that Sollog (our face-off guy) was battling a "sore back". I wonder if he's still being hampered by that... With Cornell entering the game #5 in f-o's, and Princeton not even in the top 20, you have to wonder what happened. Sollog's performance is going to be vital down the stretch (duh). Of course, if you pair the f-o stat (15-7, Priby zg88 - Hockey
