Re: General admission - 22 years ago
I totally agree, Keith! It's a matter of personal priorities. I want Lynah filled for warm-ups!!!by zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
FINAL: Princeton 12 - Cornell 7. (Tough to win when you get out-ground-balled by a 2-to-1 ratio!) (Pointless lament: Take away the 5-0 Princeton 3rd quarter, and it's a 7-7 tie... sigh...)by zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Cornell scores on 3 of 4 shots to narrow the gap -- Princeton leads, 10-6 (middle of 4th). (Big Red has scored last 3 after 6-goal Tiger run.)by zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Cornell at Princeton - 22 years ago
Princeton owned the 3rd -- they lead Cornell 9-3. Nasty.by zg88 - Hockey

CORNELL Recruit Class 2003: -- Kevin McLeod-LW (3/11/02) Camrose (AJHL) 6'2 200 / 10-25-84 / 54-13-19-32-66 -- Dan Glover-LD (3/11/02) Camrose (AJHL) 6'2 175 / 5-4-83 / 55-1-10-11-110 Not sure if this is significant or not (it being so early still), but it appears that Cornell is one of only 4 ECAC schools to have recruits from '03 (Clk., Drt., SLU) and the only school with more thby zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Greenhalgh! - 22 years ago
Al: Yes, French only had 3 years to score his 191(!) goals ('74-'76). Another amazing thing about him is that he is #1 on the career GOALS list (191), #1 on the career SCORING list (296), and also #3 (assuming Goldstein bumped him down from #2 after '88) on the career ASSISTS list (105)!!! Awesome. (He holds the top 3 spots on the season goals list (65-63-63 -- how's that for consistency?!).)by zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Greenhalgh! - 22 years ago
Good point. I believe he completely missed one of the 16-x blow-outs and only played a quarter (or less -- but still scored!) of the other. I should try to figger out his ranking based on the missed game... of course, there may be other players in the rankings who are also not being given credit for missed games, so... In any case, with a start like this, you have to wonder whether French'sby zg88 - Hockey
[Lax] Greenhalgh! - 22 years ago
Geeee, I wonder who's Rookie of the Week... For what I believe is the 4th time out of the 5(?) awards given so far this season, Sean Greenhalgh has snagged Rookie of the Week honors -- and this time he's also Co-player of the Week (w/Princeton's Boyle, who had 9 pts. vs. Hahvahd). (I don't think there's any doubt left about who the Ivy's ROTY will be... duh...) Greenhalgh's 11 goals this wby zg88 - Hockey
[Lax] 4/15 Media Poll: Cornell #5 - 22 years ago
The coaches poll isn't out yet, but the media poll is -- Cornell jumps from #10 all the way to #5! Wow. Syracuse drops from #1 to #4. Same story in the LaxPower Forum Poll (from #10 to #5). Nice remarks about the Big Red in the "Pollster Comments" section below the rankings (in both the Cornell and the Syracuse paragraphs).by zg88 - Hockey
Re: Website: laxpower.com - 22 years ago
Petunia: I did. CLUSA was the USCHO of lacrosse... then it changed into the pathetic mess known as 360Lacrosse.com. There are much better sites now (LaxPower, Lax.com, etc.), and their links are available on the thread titled " LINKS!". Happy hunting! (Unless, of course, you already knew about all those sites and were simply wondering about what happened to CLUSA... OK... I'll shutby zg88 - Hockey
[Lax] Penn 11 - Brown 9 - 22 years ago
Yet another 4th-Q meltdown by the Bruins means that Cornell is now the only remaining Ivy team without a league loss. (Brown is now 4-6 -- and 2-5 in games decided by 2 goals or less.)by zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Dartmouth @ C.U. (Sat., 4/13) - 22 years ago
Presumably to give Kyle Miller a little PT. It was the last 2 minutes of the game. He may not get another opportunity from here on out (Princeton, Brown, Hobart, NCAA's).by zg88 - Hockey

Re: [Lax] Dartmouth @ C.U. (Sat., 4/13) - 22 years ago
Yes. Old record was 29 (set in '95 by Wise). Greenhalgh entered the game needing 3 to break the record -- no problem! (...And there's still plenty o' lax left to play!)by zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] Dartmouth @ C.U. (Sat., 4/13) - 22 years ago
FINAL: Cornell 12 - Dartmouth 6 Greenhalgh with an 11-goal week!!! (...and 19 in his last 4 games!) Cornell now 9-1 overall, 4-0 Ivy. (9-game win-streak, longest since 13 in '87). Up next, the biggie: @ Princeton, Sat. 4/20.by zg88 - Hockey

From "Laximus", one of the prognosticators at Swami's site, a comparison of this year's team with the ones from the glory days in the mid/late-70's... (a trip down memory lane for the older folks (yes, I'm including you in that group, Hillel!) ): What can you say about Cornell? They did it again (as predicted.) Does this team remind anyone of some teams from the 70's? Big Red has grby zg88 - Hockey
Re: WANT TO HAVE SOME FUN? - 22 years ago
Hmmm... now there's an image... Hockey in a rainstorm! I wonder what the rules were, weather-wise, for outdoor hockey games... Was it "anything goes", like football, or "run for cover", like baseball? Re: The...duh...updated computer ratings - 22 years ago
One of the problems with LaxPower is the confusing array of ratings systems. I think I've got it figgered out: First, you have the basic "computer rating", which is based solely on the old "power rating" (Cornell: #9): Power rating is a comparison of actual game scores and predicted game scores (based on power rating differential between the two teams), adjusted forby zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Lax] PWR for lacrosse? - 22 years ago
JTW -- 1.) Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know where the composite scores came from (one of the usual lax websites?). (I also thank Matt; and thank you, John, for all the... uhh... "kludging"...) ) 2.) I don't know who Bradley and Terry are, but if they've got Cornell at #2, then they're OK with me! 3.) So, if "RPI" is supposed to be "the most important of tby zg88 - Hockey
Re: The...duh...updated computer ratings - 22 years ago
Man, that computer ranking is bizarre -- which is why I prefer the "Coaches-Computer Rating" (it has Cornell at #7!). (I wonder if -- assuming we beat Dartmouth -- next week's coaches poll will have a similar rise in ranking for the Big Red...)by zg88 - Hockey

Hmmm... Rutgers, eh?... Last time Cornell put this many wins together, they ended up going all the way to the championship final. That was 1987... the place... yep, Rutgers!by zg88 - Hockey
Re: The Best Fans on the Best Forum - 22 years ago
A sample post from the Orange Lax Forum... From: SU SUX CU scores about 8 goals on the door step on off ball cuts. SU NEVER figures it out. Bickel did not win ONE face off in the second half when it mattered. Cuse is a JOKE and are far from an elite team because they are way too inconsistent. Re: [Lax] Syracuse at Cornell - 22 years ago
----- Double Deja Vu !!! ----- (One from 2 YEARS ago, and one from 2 WEEKS ago...) It's eerie enough that today's game will feature the exact same rankings matchup as the last time these two teams battled at Schoellkopf... (2 years ago)... But, this is even weirder: Ninth-ranked Cornell, with the top-ranked defense, is playing the top-ranked team, with the top-ranked offense... (todaby zg88 - Hockey
[Lax] *LINKS* - 22 years ago
"LAX-LINK USER's GUIDE" There are various lacrosse-related links scattered around this (eLF) forum. I thought I'd offer a convenient location where folks could post links and access sites. Here's what I've come up with: R.I.P., CLUSA! The closest thing lacrosse had to an USCHO-quality site was the old "College Lacrosse U.S.A." (CLUSA) site. That was a great oby zg88 - Hockey

Question Hagwell's sanity over the Syracuse comment, if you must... But, at least he had this to say about the Home of the Big Red: Hagwell and Bertagna both noted that the schools in the East do not have the new facilities that have been popping up across the Midwest. Few Eastern schools have anything like North Dakota's new Engelstad Arena, with its marble Sioux head. But Hagwell was willinby zg88 - Hockey
Syracuse... hockey?! - 22 years ago
Here's an USCHO article about some "town meeting" where some rather, uhh, interesting possibilities were discussed... This was the passage that caught my attention: While the WCHA, CCHA, and Hockey East balked at increasing their membership, the MAAC, CHA, and even the 12-team ECAC would be open to new teams. "Provided we could work out travel partner situations, a teaby zg88 - Hockey
