Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: [Lax] Syracuse at Cornell - 22 years ago
I'll be there, even if it's pouring (whether it's rain... or Orange-colored goals...). I will never forgive myself for missing THE GAME two years ago... I had no good ex'Cuse for not going! (I should've at least caught the 4th quarter in person! Listening on the radio, knowing I coulda been witnessing history, was damned agonizing!!! (...but a thrill, nonetheless!)) Re: New topic for each lacrosse score - 22 years ago
Good point. The growing cumbersomosity of that monster Lax thread is why I had proposed starting a new general thread ("Lacrosse II" -- I shoulda just done it insteada merely proposin' it!). In addition to maintaining a series of general Lax threads (I, II, III, etc. -- start a new one each time the previous one accumulates several dozen posts), we could also have specific game-relaby zg88 - Hockey
Re: Virginia & Navy - 22 years ago
> longest losing streak against an opponent was vs. Navy from '59 to '70. ...Which ain't too surprising, if you consider that Navy won 9 national titles between '60 and '70! Virginia finally grabbed a share of the prize in '70 (along with Navy & Hopkins) for their first-ever national championship (by which time Navy had racked up 21 titles). While Navy continued to be a power throughouby zg88 - Hockey
Re: Complete List of All Cornell NCAA Titles - 22 years ago
Speaking of "co-ed sports": While polo is not technically "co-ed", the article linked in Marty's post suggests pseudo-co-ed-ness in the sport. While the inclusion of both men's & women's coverage in a single article is no doubt due in part to the sport's relatively "minor" status on campus (fan-wise), the fact that the same four schools are mentioned in both geby zg88 - Hockey

Underhill's Place in the C.U. Record Book - 22 years ago
*** UNDERTHRILL!!! *** From an article on the C.U. Athletics website: Underhill has been one of the top goalies in the nation for the past two years. This year's G.A.A. of 1.80 ranks fourth on Cornell's all-time season goaltending charts behind Ken Dryden. Impressive!!! However, they forgot to factor in one li'l thing: LeNeveu's 1.50 this year ranks second on "Cornell's all-tby zg88 - Hockey

Here's a list of all the NCAA lax tourney games ever played: (Unfortunately, they didn't bother to list the seeding-#'s... (That's the NCAA for ya...)) The above link is from the NCAA's lax history page (below), which has lots of other tourney-related links: If you assume (yeah, yeah, I know -- I'm givin' 'em way too much credit...) that the tournament teams are listed accordby zg88 - Hockey
Re: 1995 defeat of Princeton - 22 years ago
What amazes me about that stunner of an upset is that, in the previous year, the Big Red had suffered through a 1-10 campaign! (setting a record for losses in a season.) I guess Richie had one more trick up his sleeve! (And now, a potential stunner of another kind: It is quite conceivable that the once-again-defending-national-champion Princeton Tigers will miss the NCAA tournament this yby zg88 - Hockey

LATEST POLL (USILA/STX Coaches Poll, 04/01): CORNELL #10 Congrats to the Big Red for cracking the Top 10! (Up from #12 last week.) They are now the top-ranked Ivy team, since Princeton has *gasp* fallen out of the Top 10! (#8 --> #12) (I wonder if that's happened before in the last 10 years!) IVY POWER: 6 out of the 7 Ivy teams are ranked in the Top 20!!! (#20 Brby zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Off-topic] Lacrosse - 22 years ago
Yes, the Tigers seem to have a slight sieve problem... ) (I guess Coach Tierney has run out of sons?) I think a pissed-off Princeton should handle Penn; Yale-Brown promises to be quite a battle. OK... here are some assorted questions for anyone to answer (not as exciting as discussing championship belts, but...): 1.) What happened to last year's top Big Red attackman, Michael Egaby zg88 - Hockey

To put some perspective on Yale's 15 goals vs. Princeton today: Before this game, Princeton had not allowed more than 10 goals by an Ivy team since 1990!by zg88 - Hockey
Re: [Off-topic] Lacrosse - 22 years ago
Cornell may just be the "defense capital of the world" (well, the "ice/lax" world, anyway -- is there any other??). HOCKEY: Although Michigan St. did manage to beat us in a squeaker for "best team defense" (1.78 - 1.80 -- D'OH!), we were on top for a brief time towards the end. And now... LACROSSE: (Although we're only at the mid-point of the season...) Wby zg88 - Hockey

THE STREAK IS OVER!!! #16 Yale just beat #8 Princeton, 15-13! Cornell's record is safe. Thank you, Yale!by zg88 - Hockey
[Off-topic] Lacrosse - 22 years ago
OK... this is my 2nd attempt at posting this... My 1st was thwarted by a computer crash brought on by my trying to post while listening to the live internet feed of the exciting Princeton-Yale game (more on that below). Congratulations to the Big Red for winning their 6th game in a row to go 6-1 on the season (2-0 Ivy -- 1st place). #12 Cornell beat #15 Pennsylvania (in Philly), 7-4, as thby zg88 - Hockey

The Mighty Class of '03 - 22 years ago
This year's 7 juniors (29% of the roster) accounted for 170 of the team's 316 points (54%). The three top scorers (each w/32 pts.) were all juniors. That class also gave us 4 of the top 5 scorers (i.e., 4/5 of that awesome power-play unit) and 6 of the top 9 scorers. Impressive bunch! By contrast, this year's 6 seniors represented only 66 of 316 points (21%). (Yes, that includes Undy's asby zg88 - Hockey

> Gee, now that I think of it, I don't recall ever watching Clarkson lose a game in Lynah. Hmmm... let's see, Uncle Tom... If you're referring to the (4) '68-'71 seasons (an assumption based on the "CCT '71" in your sig.), then I'd venture a guess that one of the main reasons (no, the main reason) why you never had the chance to see Clarkson lose a game at Lynah is that the Foldiby zg88 - Hockey
Re: what EXACTLY did boucher do? (somewhat off topic) - 22 years ago
So, if a goalie "pulls a Boucher", does a goal scored on his net (while he's off "performing" for the crowd) count as a goal against the goalie or as an empty-netter? (EDIT: Nevermind... duhhh... obviously, it's a goal against the goalie... geez... my brain's clogged tonight...)by zg88 - Hockey

Re: The Big Sheet - 22 years ago
> Let them think we're slow...... It may be more to our advantage this way and take them by surprise. While the opposing fans might think we're slow, the opposing players know what the reality is.
