Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Attendance at Lynah - 9 years ago
I can say with pretty good certainty that if season tickets cost $250 when I was in college (14 years ago), I would not have purchased them.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Typical Harvard - 9 years ago
Ehh.. Even if it was, I have never understood people getting offended by someone running up the score. Play better if you don't want it to happen.by kaelistus - Other Sports
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 9 years ago
To their credit. That was a genuine apology. Not a "We're sorry you got offended" apology which is much more common. Good for them.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Typical Harvard - 9 years ago
I hate Harvard as much as the next guy, but... Who cares? I mean, I recall quite a few blowout hockey wins, where the faithful where still screaming "We want more" after the Nth goal. If you don't want Harvard to score. Play better. And if you think winning 17-7 or 24-7 doesn't matter, then why are you bitching about it anyway?by kaelistus - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 1, Dartmouth 1 - 10 years ago
This is one of those few times where I truly think a DQ is not enough. If you compare this type of thing with the NHL's penalties as of late (Thornton for example), a multiple game penalty should be awarded.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS (BU, too) - 10 years ago
Dafatone In high school, a physics teacher would curve his tests based on how smart he thought you were. I once got a 60 that turned into an 85, while the girl next to me got a 65 that turned into an 80. Best part is that she was smarter than me. I'm quite surprised this did not turn into a full on discrimination lawsuit.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four Results - 11 years ago
Am I the only person who really loves our style of Hockey? The vision I have of the 2003 team was not our good goal scoring, it was watching a player shoot the puck and then seeing three Cornell skaters slide into it's path as if we had four goalies. It was fantastic, and I've never seen another school be so dynamic at defense. I'll take that over high scoring breakaway heavy games any day. 5by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four Results - 11 years ago
BearLover BearLover It is unfortunate you derive such pleasure from something that will ultimately hurt Cornell, blah blah blah blah blah blah Stop talking in extremes. Cornell doesn't suck. Nothing short of winning a championship is going to undo this damage, and that task just got considerably harder. Strongly disagree with your basic premise. Go Yale!by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four Results - 11 years ago
Felix's standard order of cheering Cornell Ivys sans Harvard ECAC Teams (hockey only) Harvard Any other non merit scholarship team All other schools sorted by distance from my current home in Somerville This space reserved for schools with no actual principles (Kentucky, Duke, Penn State)by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 11 years ago
I for one am really happy Harvard won... My order of cheering: Cornell Ivy's not Harvard ECAC teams (Hockey only) Harvard Other non-merit-scholarship schools Closest school to my home in Boston Special bottom exception for schools with no shame due to scandals or lack of graduation requirements (Duke, Kentucky, Notre Dame)by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2, CC 0 (game 1 Friday) - 11 years ago
Kyle Rose BMac Is this the first Engineer on the team in... ever? I feel like somebody looked this up forever ago to no avail. Andrew McNiven was in the engineering school. Don't ask me why I remember that. I know why I remember that. As an engineer I always cheered for him the loudest .by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: No wonder our recruits are better - 11 years ago
I stand by my belief that matching financial aid is a not need-based, but merit-based. And works against Cornell's core principles. I would much rather have 20M on the regular financial aid pool benefiting all students, not just the ones who got into Harvard.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Red Cast Really Sucks - 12 years ago
Kyle RoseYou can get something 10x better than RedCast with a very cheap consumer video camera and free software. Age did it TEN YEARS AGO, back when streaming video was still pretty immature. Here's the key to everything. Age did it, 10 years ago. For free. And it was way better than RedCast. Cornell decided to kick Age out and contract an inferior service - then charge us for it. So we can arby kaelistus - Hockey

So do you guys get your money back when this happens? Edit: Apparently eLynah thinks the above message is SPAM. That's weird.by kaelistus - Hockey

Re: Mercyhurst 5 Cornell 4 - 12 years ago
Not a great first game, but there's no reason to panic. We've lost our share of 'cupcake' games to start the season. (Holy Cross for example)by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: CU Hockey-Preseason - 12 years ago
Al, I love your post. I've always loved a team based approach to games than one on one confrontations. AKA Solid team coordinated defenses and offenses. A lot of times this means passing the puck around and maneuvering for an opening. Most people seem to think that team based approaches are boring. Which is fine, just an observation. Hence why both the NBA and the NHL have modified the rulesby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
CAS At Cornell, recruited athletes graduate at the equivalent rate of the overall student population [92-93%]. I'm not sure how this is relevant to the discussion at all. The question is simply why does a person who gets into Harvard deserve more financial aid than a person who doesn't bother to apply? But umm, while I was there almost all of the Hockey team was in the, reputed to be very eaby kaelistus - Hockey

Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
A quick google search turned up no hits for merit scholarships at Ivy schools. Some links to the first page of results. Maybe I was wrong and Cornell isn't the school I thought it was... When I was there it was drilled to me that Cornell does not give out any merit based scholarships. Once you got in you are equal. Maybe things changed. In which case, I guess that saves me a couple hundrby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
CAS The matching policy applies to ALL students. Bullshit. It applies to all students who get into HYP. It does not apply to all students. That's like saying Kentucky has a scholarship policy that applies to ALL students. All you have to do is dunk under pressure. There's two points here that follow the other and I can't see how anyone can argue against them: 1- This is a merit based schby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
CAS I do believe this enhancement in financial aid, which is designed to match other Ivies, is essentially alumni funded. Again, it is incremental to the existing aid budget. It is not hurting ANY other aid recipients.\ This statement is only true if, and only if, the alumni would give money to support this policy and not a general financial aid policy. I find that unlikely. (The oppositby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
CAS If we want to compete for the best , I believe it is necessary. We are just trying to compete on an equal financial playing field. I disagree on many points. First: It seems that there would only be a handful of student non-athletes that apply into HYP that turn them down to go to Cornell in the first place. I'm an engineer for example, so HYP would do nothing for me. I guess nowadaysby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
It absolutely disadvantages. I'm assuming that Cornell has a fixed amount of money to spread around. By adding a merit based component they are decreasing the amount of general money pool for use in other things (Such as keeping the actual tuition costs, or to improve financial aid across all people, not just the ones that got into Princeton). Plus, need and no merit based financial aid has beby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Great Schafer Interview (Topher Scott confirmed as 2nd Assistant) - 12 years ago
No link but essentially Cornell will now match any financial aid offers from other Ivys as well as make Cornell free for families earning less than 75k. The latter is great but the former... It actually makes me a little bit angry because in my mind that is absolutely a financial aid policy based on merit as opposed to need. AKA If you can get into Princeton you will be getting more financialby kaelistus - Hockey

Re: Cu - 0 Yale - 6 after two - 13 years ago
You guys are really way too picky I feel. Look, It's unreasonable to expect excellence every year. This was a down year and everyone knew it - yet we still managed to come in 4th and play in the finals. Over Schafer's career, I'll take Cornell's record over anyone in the ECAC. He's allowed a few years of weak play (If that's what you can call this year) before I start calling for his head.by kaelistus - Hockey
