Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Ryan Smart - 13 years ago
Jim HylaThanks, I was told that a hockey alumnus was coming, but no one could tell me who. And it's nice to know he's an active alumnus. What do you have to do to continue to be one? Give Cornell money.by kaelistus - Hockey

mnagowski If you really dislike democracy as a system of government, you can: 1) run for public office on a platform of getting rid of democracy, or 2) try to find another group of people somewhere else in this universe that will have you. While we're seem to be on the same side of health care, I absolutely hate the leave the country statements. I'd love to move to a country that has a moreby kaelistus - Other Sports

KeithK It's free-rider only insofar as we guarantee treatment to those who cannot pay for it. If I choose not to buy insurance and can't pay my medical bills then my medical treatment should stop, except when the providers are will to provide it pro bono. I can't believe people are actually arguing for Private fire departments... Hmm.. So we've got a couple of options on how they work: Option 1: They only put out the fire in the houses that pay. OK, but what happens if the fire starts next door? It could start small, but by the time it spreads to your it might be too huge to control and your city burns down. Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
DafatoneWisconsin had the edge, but Elliot made that save on Bitz at the end of the 3rd that he had absolutely no right making. Both teams could have scored a number of times, and the game could have gone either way. Exactly my recollection. Amazing game.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
ScrewBUBut seriously, as long as this system is in place, we will never win a championship. Wisconsin won a championship in 2006 playing essentially the exact same system we do.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
andyw2100 Unless something has changed, it's my understanding that Coach Schafer forbids players from reading eLynah. If family members choose to read eLynah they do so at their own risk. And on the whole there is certainly much more here that is positive than negative. 1- It's been clear over the last few years that some of the players break that rule especially when the season is over. Kyle Rose Super-fickle Red Sox country? Are you kidding? The Sox fans I know are rabid, like Cornell fans: I often call Cornell the Red Sox of college hockey, because of their fan fervor and long title drought despite consistent competitiveness. "Demanding" is the word you want, and is a NY Yankees attitude: beat on the team when they're down. Red Sox fans support their team at alby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
Well, I'm glad Yale won, if only to refute the stupid EZAC-type comments I'm seeing in this board. I expect that type of comment from USCHO, but not from here. The ECAC has traditionally been the 4th conference, but it's always been competitive. We put 2 guys in the ECAC this year, HEA put 3. Sure, I'll revise: Cornell was the second best non-scholarship team in the tournament this year. Yetby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
Kyle Rose My point was that this was supposed to be the year that brought us back to the highs of '03 and would give us a long run in the NCAA tournament. Kyle, I think maybe your expectations are a bit too high. 2003 was Cornell's best year in possibly 30 years. It doesn't happen very often and it's unfair to rate the current team to that level. Also of note - Cornell was, once again, thby kaelistus - Hockey

Best Cornell team since 2003. Congrats to a wonderful group of seniors and an incredible season.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Buh-bye, seniors - 14 years ago
Underachieved? Are you kidding me. ECAC championship and underachieved? What's wrong with you people? And coach Schafer? He has 4 of these in 12 years or so? Dear god you people have high standards. And I am not of the belief that you need scoring to make it exciting. Schafer's system is exciting to me. I love how our players line up defensively to form a near (Maybe not so much for UNH but moby kaelistus - Hockey

Kinda off topic. But the leaning bear is so much more soul-devouring than the Huggy bear.by kaelistus - Hockey

Re: Camera policy in Lynah? - 14 years ago
Andy, though not up to Age's standard those aren't bad at all! Thanks for sharing! What's wrong with taking the photographs as RAW and figuring out white balance post shot manually?by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: USCHO Picks Union - 14 years ago
For me, the Soul-Devouring juggernauts comment totally superseeds that he picked Union. That quote has legs and could live on for years. So, no. No comments. The next 6 games will be decided on the ice.by kaelistus - Hockey

cu722001And for all the protests to the contrary, CU is not Harvard, Yale or Princeton academically or reputaionally. In all seriousness, there's no question CU is not H,Y,P reputationally. However, there's no way in hell I'm going to agree with you on the academically line. With some specific majors as exceptions, the top 20-30 schools are pretty similar. Then again, I went to CU-Engineerby kaelistus - Hockey

All those numbers look very iffy to me. I don't trust the math that determines the Cornell vs Union game is the least important game of next week.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: ELynah Chat - 14 years ago
Age, I know it's not currently the best solution, but huge thanks for trying to set this up. Here's hoping you find something better.by kaelistus - Hockey

Josh '99finchphilSeems to be lots of tickets available.Of course there are, because it's SEPTEMBER. Harvard tickets have sold out the day of before.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Bemidji NCAA regionals postgame - 15 years ago
That second goal.. That was disgusting. The players on the ice completely broke down their play. Sure Scrivens could/should/whatever stop it. But at least 3 other CU players should have been in position and they weren't. I don't usually see goals where our defense completely breaks down that way, so that's why it stuck in my mind. Scrivens may not be the best goalie we've ever had, but I'llby kaelistus - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoffs - 15 years ago
Wait.. I thought the NCAA established only NHL size rinks for the tournament? Did I imagine that?by kaelistus - Hockey

OatNortheastern (#7 in the PWR) is a bit overrated right now. Everything is acceptable to me. SIMPLE MATH!!!!!!111111 Wait. Sorry, I was channeling USCHO.by kaelistus - Hockey

6 grades... Grr.. I was diagnosed with type 1 and they gave me an advil and told me to go home. Stupid doctors. How did they miss the bone sticking out in my shoulder? 1 week later I went back to the hospital and they correctly diagnosed type 3. Took about 6 months to heal (Although the bone sticks out forever)by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Polls 1/12 - 15 years ago
Flashbacks to 2001.. This is WAY early but that bracketology column screws Cornell in every way possible. They get seeded in the west AND are forced to play the hardest 4th seed. Followed by a possible Michigan matchup on their ice. Really, this is pretty much the worst selection I can think of.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Andy Iles ---> Cornell '10 - 15 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 Actually "Garman...Lost" occurred to me, but it seemed too much of a stretch. It'll never happen. But i absolutely love this.by kaelistus - Hockey

3 Points on an away weekend? I'll take it! Would have been nice to score, but I'm totally looking forward to the old super defensive teams that I grew up with while on the hill.by kaelistus - Hockey

Here in Boston, I've certainly heard of Clarkson professionally. In my experience it has a pretty good reputation, and the Clarkson software engineer's I've worked with have all been excellent. Harvard software engineers, however, have not. So there.by kaelistus - Hockey
Re: Cornell No. 1 in ECAC Logo Ranking - 15 years ago
I think my problem with the Cornell logo is not that its bad. Huggy Bear really isn't a bad logo.. But that it replaced Leaning mean bear. The most awesome logo of all time.by kaelistus - Hockey
