Re: Milo - 17 years ago
evilnaturedrobotto be fair, every indication is that when Milo commited to Cornell he was told that he could play both sports ( I seem to recall that this being mentioned somtime in the 05-o6 year.) If it is true that Schafer changed his mind half way through the year, and there is no evidence of this aside from Dilligaf's highly suspect word, then it's a poor job on Mike's part. Jacob '06I think we have to cut back max's play or we're going to keep getting burned with him on defense. That moose goal was pretty though. Maybe the coach should have him play attack a bit.by Swampy - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Lacrosse Bradley-Terry - 17 years ago
jtwcornell91Jacob '06Is the lower probability center for Cornell due to their weaker SOS, or less exposure to OOC teams? (By lower I meant the center of our distribution is only at ~.5 and we have a wider distribution) It's just that in the second plot everything's scaled so that the area under all of the curves is the same. Since ours is broader, the peak is lower. The broader distribution mby Swampy - Other Sports

jtwcornell91Okay, so there is an argument that explains how you might not judge from the game results that an undefeated team is automatically the best. Before the season starts you are in a state of ignorance about the strengths of the the various teams. (Okay, so you're really not, but to be fair to everyone you should put aside whatever prior expectations you have.) Every result gives you aby Swampy - Other Sports
Re: 2007 Lax Final Four tickets - 17 years ago
Hillel Hoffmann Here's the official site: Doesn't the Ivy "group" get an AQ? The article on the site (press CONTINUE) says the other four AQ's (besides Navy, Notre Dame, and Georgetown) "will be filled by May 6." I thought the Ivy season ended on Saturday, and Cornell clinched the championship against Princeton a week ago. Is this more Southern myopia?by Swampy - Other Sports

Great win and very exciting watching the updates on Laxpower! I have a question. Is the Carrier Dome's field artificial turf, and has CU played much on artificial turf this year? This may have something to do with the high score and the scoring from 12 yards out.by Swampy - Other Sports
Re: MLax: Cornell 16 @ Syracuse 15 (4th, 0:08 left) - 17 years ago
Rita, I used to coach youth lacrosse. We had lost something like five games in a row before we finally won. In that game, we had one kid who could dodge and beat any of their defenders one-on-one. So we put in a play at halftime that everyone else would clear out, and this kid would try to dodge and get a clear shot. If they double-teamed him or slid over to help, our other guys would move toby Swampy - Other Sports

Faceoffs: The ball is between the netting of two opposing midfield players' sticks. The other midfielders line up on lines to the side in the midfield section of the field. The ref blows the whistle. The side middies can and typically do rush into the center. Meanwhile, the center middies struggle for the ball. Often, there's a fair amount of checking until one team wins possession. Trotsky Coaches develop different contacts. Mike and his staff have been exceptionally strong in BC. ... You can't be all places at all times, and I think I would prefer deep and dependable penetration in a few rich areas over superficial contact with many. Understood. pfibigerNash is not just an impact guy, he's an elite prospect and alone brings up the recruiting class dramatically. Patrick Kennedy was poised to have a really big year, and was slowed by mono. Mike Devin has proved himself to be an impact defenseman in the BCHL, and Jordan Berk got really big minutes in Salmon Arm. MINIteam8sThis infers that acceptance to any NCAA program is referred to as 'scholarship'..."makes a total of seven scholarships accepted by SilverBacks players this season." Re: MLax: Penn 5 @ Cornell 16 (4th) - time for a backup goalie? - 17 years ago
billhowardAnnouncers making much of Tambroni not wanting to go past 19 goals. Then the subs go in and make it 20-5 after about 2 minutes of around-the-cage. So maybe the problem is, once Cornell gets to say 17-5 with minutes to play, that's when the reserves come in, so they have a chance to score a couple and still stay under 20. Instead, the wholesale changes came after it was 19-5. There isby Swampy - Other Sports

KeithKRPI has 22 players on the list? I want to be impressed at the academic commitment of the Engineer players/coaches. But with 22 of 26 qualifying with 3.0 GPA or better I just can't help but suspect something is going on. Man, I'm cynical. Brown has 20 of 27, but it's common knowledge that Brown grades are bullshit. It would be helpful to know what the average GPA is at the respectiveby Swampy - Hockey

Big Red Puckhead has Jillson's statistics up. In 73 games, he scored 93 points (41-52). This is much higher than any other recruit, with Kennedy being next highest at 47. Jillson is much closer to where Romano was last year in the AJHL with 50-52, although I think Romano played in closer to 50 games (I can't find his complete stats from last year). According to the Dallas News, he was named to the all-area second team as a high school junior, when he was tied as the highest scorer on the team (see this article). Apparently, his local club team wasn't that good, but then he led them to the Dallas area finals. Re: WHY CORNELL WILL NO LONGER DOMINATE THE ECAC - 17 years ago
bandrews37I'm just saying, the players who leave Mariucci and the Ralph echo the same comments that departing Red players do. Is it one of the best places to play around the nation? Absolutely - but the same arguement could easily be made by fans of a half dozen other schools. Ice Meets MetalThe bottom line is that the “Schaffer System” has failed because it has not adapted well to the challenges that CU is facing both internally and externally. bandrews37The Schafer glory years are over. The game has evolved, and he's still coaching his style of play from when he wore the Red and White. It's a shame, the players he hoodwinked into coming here deserve better. Trotby Swampy - Hockey
Recruiting - 17 years ago
Is anyone else concerned about how this year's recruiting is going? By this time last year (by January, actually), we had this year's freshman class pretty much lined up. This year, we only have four recruits, but seven seniors are graduating. Furthermore, while the Devin twins and Patrick Kennedy seem solid, Johnston appears to be a bit of a project. The Devins committed last spring, so this yeaby Swampy - Hockey
