Does this mean that both Murray and LeNeveu are definately coming back?;-)

melissa

nothing is definite but the article was a fake and we can assume for the time being that both will be returning.

Give My Regards

Reminds me of a particularly nasty one from the early '90s, back when the joke issue came out sometime in October.  There was an article stating that major violations had been found in the Cornell hockey program and the NCAA had handed down the "death penalty", shutting the program down until the year 2000.  I understand a couple of hockey players got hooked by that one and called the hockey office in dismay, and whoever was on the other end told them to "look at the front page" -- which had some story about the US Department of Defense wanting to put a missile silo under Barton Hall.

If you lead a good life, go to Sunday school and church, and say your prayers every night, when you die, you'll go to LYNAH!

This year's joke articles were particularly ridiculous (but funny).  There have been some in the past which were much more believable.

If you're amused by the April Fools issue of the Sun, you should check out the articles in the April Fools issue of UMass's daily paper, the Collegian.

Definitely more off-the-wall than the Sun's articles.  I particularly enjoyed the article titled "Boston College Dead At 139".   ::laugh::

October? Why? Did it used to be October Fool's Day? ::nut::

I wonder what Murray/LeNeveu's response was this morning... or perhaps more interestingly, their teammate's.

I recall that they sometimes published joke issues to be distributed at football games, mostly insulting the opposition.

It was funny and all, but the few minutes between when I read it and when I realized it was fake were quite scary.

Well then they did a good job.  You'er supposed to be taken in by these things, at least for a few minutes.  I love Bill's story about the hockey players getting taken in in the early 90's

There was a tradition of joke issues for Fall Weekend and Spring Weekend as they were once called.  This resulted in two joke issues per year and although I don't remember a 4/1 joke issue my memory is fading fast.

But the reason that I mention the two issues per year is that during the spring of 1971 I remember reading a really funny issue concerning the university spying on student protesters.  It was replete with photos of the spies taking photos of the students.  But it was no joke.  This would have been a third satirical issue and I had egg on my face as I was sure it was just that.

I don't remember what the name of the second spring weekend was (perhaps IRC weekend).... but it sure made me the fool.  :-/

I think we can be pretty confident they're both coming back. Who was the last star Cornell hockey player to leave early? Gartman left early, but he wasn't playing at all...
