Quote from: BearLoverIt appears President Kotlikoff understands how much hinges on staying out of the crosshairs of the Trump administration.

It is a quarrel in a faraway land between people of which we know nothing.

Quote from: with thanks to Martin NiemöllerFirst they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Even though I was a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Even though I was a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Even though I was a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Even though I was a Jew

Then they came for the Cantabs
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Cantab

Then they came for the Cornellians
    And we were fucked!

So where will the hockey diaspora land?  Yale?  Michigan?  Any chance Cornell might land a couple?

They likely will not transfer at all. Harvard is going to challenge this in court. And let's hope they succeed, because Trump could come for the other Ivies next.

This could have major ramifications throughout college hockey as well as all other college sports.

Yeah, I have no interest in taking Harvard transfers under these circumstances. The fascists need to be reigned in, but unfortunately they seem content to ignore court orders with the blessing of the GOP in Congress. Very concerning.

well, i have no interest in *poaching* transfers to harvard's detriment under these circumstances, but to the extent they need landing spots i don't mind if cornell assists the players. rationalize your self-interest!

the judge who got harvard's suit seems likely to me to issue the injunction based on her history - obama appointee, enjoined the travel ban during Trump I. not particularly friendly to my field (plaintiffs' class action) but not likely to see this as anything other than arbitrary and capricious retaliation over protected first amendment activity.

I don't know anything about the judge, or the underlying law really, but this seems like the most open-and-shut injunction in history. So I'm sure this judge would grant it, but so would any reasonable judge.

On the transfer point—if international students/athletes are transferring out of Harvard as a result of the government's actions, this is an abhorrent situation regardless of where they end up. We should all hope it never comes to this.

I'm confident that almost any judge (except the Trumpiest ones) would issue an injunction and rule in Harvard's favor. But I also believe the administration will do everything it can to undermine any such ruling.

Could you or another lawyer give a view of how quickly this will be litigated and the merits of each side's case?

I'm not a lawyer, but I suspect it will have to be litigated in Judge Burroughs' court, then appealed, and then possibly taken before the Supremes. I'll be interested to see if (a) the Supremes agree to hear the case and (2) if they drag out the process as they did with Trump's claim of immunity.
