A charter to MSG?
There is the Big Red bus aka C2C but it is not yet showing the late-November schedule. The earlier November schedule shows a 9:45 am Saturday bus but not the 5:45 am departure that is available weekdays.

Even if you leave 5:45, you get to NYC at 10, 10:30. Get to MSG, watch the game, then go 5 hours on bus back home the same day 😭

An e-mail just went out for the game against Maine. 12 PM start on Saturday. It'll probably be nice for the guys to get back to Ithaca at a reasonable hour but definitely makes me question when they'd have alumni events.

Being facetious. Mostly.

Puck drop at 12, doors open at 11. Means I have to be in NYC by like, 9 am, and leave my stuff somewhere... so that means I have to come in on the 27th and leave the 28th... but that IS the Calgary game... so maybe try to get cheap seats for that (LMAO it's MSG let's be real here) and leave the 29th? But that's two nights in a hotel, which is a lot of money I don't exactly need to be spending, especially because hotels run $150 minimum... and then the bus TO NYC is cheap ($25) but the one back is like $65, so we're at $400 already, and then tickets, and then feeding and watering and such... gaaah.

Guh. I'll have to think about this way more in depth.

25-30 years ago, Shortline/CoachUSA used to offer an Ithaca-NYC bus that left around 4:30am and got into Port Authority sometime around 9-10am.  It was a great way to do a full day in the city without an overnight stay anywhere.  Sadly, I don't think they run this schedule anymore.

Totally irrelevant to today's situation, but in the 1950's my father would board a sleeper car in Ithaca in the evening.  Around midnight the Black Diamond from Buffalo would stop, add the car to the train, and continue on to New York where he would awake in the morning.  IIRC, the return trip brought him home in the late afternoon, so he must have spent the night in NYC.

Not quite. The "Black Diamond" route and all other Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western routes that had served Ithaca off and on ended in May, 1959. Two weeks after the last Black Diamond, the "Maple Leaf," a nighttime Toronto-NYC route that was a Lehigh Valley Railroad / Canadian National Railway joint venture, added Ithaca as a stop to absorb the demand. The Maple Leaf discontinued in February, 1961, finally ending passenger train service in Ithaca.

(ETA: I only knew the basics of the above because my Mom & Dad, Helen '62 and Paul '60 - Brooklynites both - each traveled to Cornell and back by train on a regular basis for most of their time as undergrads.)
