"A soft penalty."  LOL.  An understatement.

A historically dominant performance by team USA in Olympic play, winning 5-0 and dealing Canada their first taste of being  shutout in the Olympics. Almost all Canada's shots were low percentage chances. This was the kind of performance that might give hope to another country to oust Canada in the semifinals.

If i'm a Canadian fan in Italy, i'm praying for Poulin's health... and looking forward to the curling competition.

Welp, that was suboptimal.  Hopefully Canada will show up when the game counts.

If I wanted to see Americans commit a murder I'd follow ICE.

you and me both but i can't help it i love circuses AND bread. USA USA USA (and i ignore reading anything i can about the personal politics of any of them but let myself get pleasantly surprised)

An unexpectedly huge game for Team Canada (women) against Finland this morning (8:30 ET) to wrap up group stage play. Poulin still out. Lines have been juggled up since the rather demoralizing loss to USA. Jenner will be looking to find chemistry with Watts and Fillier.

Medically, this is diagnosed as rectal-cranial inversion.

O'Neill has a goal and an assist with Canada up 3-0 on Finland in the 2nd!

O'Neill has absolutely been a breakout star in her Olympics debut, playing with great energy and desire. Our decorated veteran Jenner has lost a step from her younger years in terms of acceleration but is stuck playing as a center with Poulin out which is not her best role. She's also become something of a powerplay specialist, but penalties have been few and far between.

Over the past year the US seems to have gotten some separation vs. the Canadians for the 1st time maybe ever.
Sure looks like it, although Canada missing their best player can't help.

But we are absolutely playing like ass today.  And the US is doing everything right.
How many times can Kenny Albert say Marie-Philip Poulin is out of the lineup? Way too many.

Any ACL references?
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

Thankfully my questionably legal stream has been the Canadian TSN broadcast, so i've escaped from the Vonn-a-thon, medal table navel gazing, and timpani-thumping theme music.

Jenner opens the scoring to put Canada up  1-0 on Germany early in their quarter final game.

Canada women eke over the finish line to beat Switzerland 2-1 in the semis, making 2 Poulin goals in the second period stand up.

Meanwhile USA cruise into the gold medal game with a 5-0 pasting of Sweden, looking every bit as hungry, confident, and dangerous as you would expect.

So it is, once again, a Canada-USA olympic final. Team Canada will be trying to conjure up all the old magic, but may find it very difficult to impose their will on this game with their aging core who cannot keep up with USA's track meet. Their head coach seems to be lacking ways to find them a psychological edge--things looked very nervy and disjointed in the third against the Swiss.
