Man, Rand Pecknold is such a choker.

I'd take his natty in a heartbeat
True that, sadly.

The biggest catastrophe in hockey since 1989

Quote from: marty on March 22, 2026, 04:30:46 PMConsider how far LP is from Q, Yale,  Harvard,  Brown and Princeton. Also a pain to get there from Ithaca as Stereax has shown. But LP is certainly nice once you check into your room.
Absolute pain in the ass to get to... if you don't have a car. Or if it's in a snowstorm.

The ride home today was honestly quite pleasant!

And LP is incredibly nice. Like, wow is it a nice town to spend a few days in. Plus the views are super pretty as well! (And I've heard that several 15-minute drives away there are other similarly beautiful small towns with charm as well.)

Yes.  The winner for me was looking out over Mirror Lake during lunch and seeing dog sleds.  Can' do that in Albany

That's a lot of catastrophe for a good team...
Certainly agree with number 1.  Definitely the worst thing to happen as a result of COVID ...

Quote from: BearLover on March 22, 2026, 03:18:58 PMSo I am wondering if people here took similar issue to Islanders fans' reactions when John Tavares signed with Toronto.

Absolutely. F that pajama-wearing guy.
But I asked about others here taking issue with *the fans' response,* not with Tavares. For the record I agree with you. This is extremely normal sports fan behavior. My question is why others get so upset when I bring up rooting against Robertson and why that's any different from eg. an Islanders fan booing Tavares.

Number 1-He's just in college and
Number 2-I wouldn't even say that to a pro

I don't see any advantage in carrying on that hatred. It just eats away at you. When it happens, let everyone know that you don't like it and then get on with the rest of your life. Carrying those feelings certainly doesn't do anyone any good, you included.

Tend to agree.  You could also argue that Robertson's success if any reflects well on Cornell.  I have much older vendettas to tend.  For example, seeing Fusco play for Dartmouth traumatizes me.  Anyone under 55, you can look it up

Well, you can, it just requires some recreational chemicals. Luckily such things are widely available in Albany.

Quote from: BearLoveryou're in the 1% minority among sports fans. It's a commendable minority to be in, but I don't think there's a need to police the rooting interests of the other 99%.

No.  I don't know other Cornellians who are rooting against Robertson because he left.  You are in the tiny minority of Cornell hockey fans*, which is the appropriate comparison here.

People who boo a guy who leaves are like people who cheer when an opposing player gets hurt.  Sure, there are those people.  We have a pretty good idea what those people are like in the rest of their lives.

They are trash.  Noting they are trash is not policing them.  They have every right to be trash.  Indeed, it helps that they self-identify so the rest of us can keep our distance, point, and laugh.

* If you even are one.  With every ridiculous post you sound more like some kid taking a piss which, well, knock yourself out.
Yawn. Not worth engaging with personal insults. You're needlessly rude and completely off base here.

[Tavares returns to the LI after leaving in free agency and gets relentlessly booed/heckled the entire game]

You are conflating the 15 people who post on this forum with all Cornell hockey fans. You're out of touch. Poll Cornell students about how they'd treat Robertson if he were to return to Lynah. They're all trash, according to you. (And you're wrong about the views of people on this forum, too.)

And no, rooting against a player for leaving is NOT the same as cheering when they get hurt. WTF is wrong with you? How would that be the same thing at all?

You are woefully out of touch, with what Cornell fans think, with what sports fans think, and with what I think. You made a very stupid post.

I don't trust most students at Lynah to have any knowledge of who Robertson is tbf.
Oh for sure. But the way it goes is: the few kids in the row who *do* know start jeering him/telling their friends, and it gradually catches on and eventually the whole section is doing it. Same way Healey on Harvard was randomly getting jeered the entire series two weekends ago.

I have zero ill will towards Robertson and wish him the best.

If Michigan played at Lynah, I'd expect everyone to give him a ton of shit over leaving and I'd join in if I were there too, because what else are you going to do?

So there's room to have it both ways.
I feel like on the ice, yeah, give him shit for leaving! The same way we give everyone shit.

But off the ice, best to him and I hope he does well at Mich. Transferring is a super complicated decision and I'm sure he didn't make it lightly.

I really don't hold ill will towards many people/hockey players. Except Brock Faber. Fuck that guy and his stupid face.

(Also, idk why we chose Healey either. I think it was a trip or something he did early in the series lol. But we were heckling several Harvard players, just Healey caught on.)

For me the 2003 FF no goal is the top calamity. No doubt in my mind we win that game if that goal was counted. Now, how we'd do against Minnesota in the final is a question, but I sure would've liked to take a shot.

The most upset I've been as a Cornell fan was the 2006 loss to Wisconsin, although that wasn't so much a travesty or miscarriage of justice as it was a heck of a game all around. That being said, did they really have to call matching minors for roughing that late?

1-10 when playing for the Frozen Four is the real catastrophe. In a vacuum, 2006 was a great game. As part of the rest, ugh.
