Tough loss.  Good goaltending by Union.

I spent most of the game running errands and driving around while listening to Grady and Tim and my god is Tim exhausted by how reluctant these guys are to pull the trigger. You can literally hear him sigh as he says "I really thought he was going to shoot it there..." as another pass fails to find a blade.

This team can't one-time a beach ball. Always gotta hesitate, stick-handle a bit, until the passing lanes close or the goalie gets back into position. Totally unimpressive watching the (lack of) skill on this team.

Those shots would never go in anyway. It's always forehand, backhand, forehand, shot, rather than a quick release. Same with the passing. The end result is the D/goalie is always in position by the time the Cornell player gets rid of the puck.

Another thing Tim was talking about was Union going one-touch on the power play.

::shrug:: aren't we tired enough of the constant dooming that there are SEVERAL threads about it? I usually don't reply, but I'm just exhausted at this point, and it feels like it's not only me. Am I supposed to go around banging the drum like WE SUCK, THERE'S NO HOPE, SEASON'S OVER, EVERYONE FAILED SCHAFER? Or am I allowed to enjoy the team?

There's a group of kids here, most of whom got sticks or pucks or something from the team (home or away), and they're all super happy, even if the team sucked and we lost and the sky is falling. Borrow some happiness. Find the joy in things. And breathe. It's just a hockey game. We're not going to die if we don't get a bye or win the ECACs. Enjoy things as they are and as they come.

I'm just happy I have a nice hockey team I can watch twice a week that plays hockey. And yeah, maybe I only started being a Cornell fan this year. Sure, I don't know the lore of the 70s and 80s and 90s; that was before I was born. I don't know the full significance of Schafer, don't know just how beloved he is by all of you guys. But I do enjoy this team. I enjoy the people on this forum (at least, when we're not dooming like the program will shut down with every turnover). I just like hockey, man, and it's nice to talk hockey with people. These players are my age, or a little older or younger. It's tough for me to be too hard on them on a public forum. You never know who's reading what. And it's really not that deep, to me, you know? Maybe I yap and complain in person, but it's all just... coming from a place of love, of wanting this team to do better, to play up to the potential we know they have. We don't know the full of what's going on in the locker room - who's playing at 100%, who's hurt, who's sick.

I just... I want to give them grace. And I feel like, as it gets less and less likely that we get the bye, that we win the playoffs - that we just... give them grace. Next year is another season.

I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I see this wrong, but that's my outlook on it all. :)

Cornell had plenty of opportunities but couldn't get more than one goal. I was surprised at how easy it was to get into the Union zone

Awful performance and terrible crowd. This combined with the basketball loss makes for a pretty terrible day. I've been on Shane's ass all year and I've really had enough. He let in a couple softies tonight and even if you can say that he hasn't been bad most of the games, that's not enough, you need to actually be good. These are the types of games Shane would steal for us in previous years but instead he keeps his save percentage below 0.900. Please give keopple at least one game next weekend, he has been nothing but good and unless they're fully trusting that Roest will be the starter next year (bad idea), he is the future in goal. Don't even know where to go from here but just start winning.

The analytics say we won easily.  I'm not believing my lying eyes I'm going with the numbers!

Seriously, I just feel bad for Schafer.   As stereax suggets, I'll get over this, it's a fun diversion when we win, a frustrating one when we lose, but it's not my life.  It's sort of is Coach's.  He deserved better this year.

Well, part of what makes this season so frustrating to us fans is that fact that we wanted Schafer to go out with a bang. Instead, we're on track for the second lowest finish in the Pairwise in his 30 seasons.

The good news is, it frees up our Friday and Saturday nights for the rest of the season.

While a conference tournament always gives you something to play for, nothing this team is showing us tells me they have a deep run in them. Lots of circling in the offensive zone with not much to show for it, and when we get a rare open shot, we inevitably miss the cage or shoot it in the goalie's midsection.

As others have said Cornell hockey is a nice diversion, but at this point the season seems to be going nowhere. As Brooklyn Dodgers fans famously said (before my time) after annual disappointment, "wait till next year!"

Also lets not forget that the women look like a serious contender and lacrosse looks very promising.

The women's team is making me super excited too! Not a fan of lax (yet) but I do have a discount code from the Boulevard event to burn... should probably go watch a lacrosse game and see how it goes. :)

I'm a kindred soul with you Stereax.

In every game there are always many cool moments.  How about last night when Suda saved one right in front of the goal? I loved that. And that neat little DeSantis pass for the O'Leary goal: unreal. And tonight there was that fast pass from Bancroft to Walsh who streaked down to right in front of the net, Union's goaltender made a great save but such cool (almost) execution. There, I am admiring a failed play.

As for "Amateur Hour," that's kinda funny: they are of course amateurs: superbly talented, hardworking young amateurs, some teenagers even. They have been having a disappointing season. But even if it were over now there would still be cool highlights: Beating NoDak 2x, the win at MSG, pounding Harvard at Lynah. All terrific!!

And my 5-year old niece is still talking about the puck given to her by Cornell Hockey at the Princeton game.
