basically, allowed no goals in last 40 min sat and now allowed 2 goals in almost 45 min today..

We will see Sat if the D is real or the quality of opp is the reason.

I was referring to the last 10 minutes of the first half; check the time stamp.

For a good portion of that time there were many backups in there; I was surprised that we went to the bench that early.

Only briefly.  Stopped that quickly.  Starters back with 8:53 to go in the half.

I didn't realize it was such a short time. But it sure seemed to throw us off our game for awhile.

No questioning that.  Premature move.

I'm encouraged to see Cornell (seemingly) improving with each game.  Significant step up in competition this Saturday.

Ierlan's save percentage was over 72%; the Hobart goaltender was around 32%.  Their D was a lot like Swiss cheese, giving us lots of opportunities in close.

After the third, Hobart game: You can always find a couple stats that look good when you lose. In this case, when you win big:

Cornell is the blue-collar team of the Ivies (well, certainly not HYP). Ground balls are blue-collar. Versus Hobart, Cornell 44-20.

CJ Kirst went 7G 4A 11 points. 7 goals on 9 shots. Good enough. Extrapolate that for the regular season (um, yes, the competition gets tougher): 69-22-91.

Chase Ierlan was on fire: 7GA, 16SV, 70%SV%. He looked good.

Cornell goals allowed YTD by half: 16 vs. 7

Faceoffs have not been Cornell's forte since, ah, TD Ierlan decided to transfer from Albany to Yale-not-Cornell (and then Denver). At Hobart, we won 13 to Hobart's 15. Moral victory.

As of the start of this week, only four top 20 teams are unbeaten: 1. Maryland Virgina, 2. Notre Dame, 3. Cornell and 12 St. Joseph's. It still seems as if we have not been tested. TOSU and Penn State are up next. Those will be challenges. I wonder what will be the highest-rated team we play in 2023 ... an Ivy?

can we win enough faceoffs , the same story every year it seems.

I was able to watch the game only after the half when Cornell pulled away, but I liked what I saw at faceoff with Coach Buczek rotating his FOGOs on the ball and in the wings. All three have opportunities to play and improve. I imagine one will emerge as the #1 as the season progresses, but in the meantime, competition is good.

Going in, #8 media / #9 coaches TOSU has played 4 games to Cornell's 3, not much of an advantage. Beat unranked Air Force and Cleveland State by 8 and 7, got by #12 UNC 8-5, got blown out by #1 Virginia 17-6. So it should be close. Does Ierlan bring his A-game, can we keep it close on faceoffs, will Ohio State try a clampdown on CJ Kirst as others did to Jeff Teat his last 2 years, will our defense be as good as it has every right to be?
