USCHO ECAC preseason column.

QuoteCORNELL

HEAD COACH: Mike Schafer, entering his 25th season at Cornell.

2018-19 OVERALL RECORD: 21-11-4 (13-5-4 ECAC Hockey, tied for first)

KEY RETURNING PLAYERS: Junior goalie Matthew Galajda, (16-8-3, 1.85 GAA, .921 SV%) senior defenseman Yanni Kaldis (4-24-28), junior forward Morgan Barron (15-19-34), junior forward Cam Donaldson (12-13-25).

KEY LOSSES: Forward Mitch Vanderlaan, defenseman Matthew Nuttle, defenseman Alec McCrea.

KEY ADDITIONS: Forward Matt Stienburg (St. Andrew's College), forward Jack Malone (Youngstown, USHL), forward Ben Berard (Powell River, BCHL).

2019-20 PREDICTIONS: The Big Red lost three defensemen off last year's team. Replacing them appears to be their only question mark. Cornell has made three straight trips to the NCAA tournament while recording at least 21 wins each time. Expect more of the same this season.

Hard to believe Cam is only a junior. I hope he stays healthy this year.  He seems to have sports car syndrome: high performance but often in the shop.

USCHO Prediction (I took the top guy):1. Cornell
2. Quinnipiac
3. Clarkson
4. Dartmouth
5. Harvard
6. Yale
7. Brown
8. Union
9. Colgate
10. Princeton
11. RPI
12. SLU

Speaking of injuries, any word on how Malott is doing?

Hope he trades in his Fiat 124 for a Mazda MX-5 or Honda 2000.

I hope he doesn't make a trade for an M series at the end of the year.

So say we all.

The athletic success of a college athlete is about as reliable indicator of his/her success in professional sports as the academic success of a college student is an indicator of his/her success in the world of business.

TBRW Predictions

I noticed that TBRW predicted that Union would be 5th, I wondered if you included their players who are out for the season. So I looked. I know that Jack Adams is out, and there is at least one more. I don't remember who. Also RPI lost Jacob Hayhurst and some others who probably won't make a difference including Donovan Ott.

I didn't include season injuries -- that's a good catch as long as those occurred prior to their first practice.

If they happened this season then I (as they) am shit outta luck.

That's the Donovan Ott who left Cornell, I assume?

Ott never made it to Ithaca.

Now he is at Utica College, so he still might get there. ::drive::

I was only referring to Union as having injuries over the summer. I already commented again about Ott. Hayhurst graduated in three years and is playing at Michigan as a grad student. Mat Harris also left RPI. I don't recall if he showed up anywhere else, but I am sure he won't make a difference.

All three Sun writers like the new scoreboard.  ::demented::

As do I. It's nice seeing replays and having a scoreboard that can handle multiple penalties as well as SOG as they occur. I don't see anything that takes away from the game or atmosphere.
