Quote from: arugulaWow, that's nuts.  Interesting too is the difference between NC$$ in the 70s versus the 80s as an NHL feeder.  Nethery was even more dominant than Niuewendyk, yet had a very minor NHL career.
There was very much a stigma about COLLEGE BOY! in the 70s in the NHL.  I mean, that was almost as bad as being a homosexual.

Don Cherry was making personnel decisions in the 70s.  Christ, Eddie Shore wasn't dead yet.

Lance had everything that an NHL'er needed except great skating skills.  If he could have refined that skill, he would have had agood NHL career.

The funny thing is that skating instruction wasn't nearly as good as it is now and skating could be considered one of the easier things to improve on the professional level. The quality of skating instruction is much better nowadays thanks to people like Laura Stamm '59

Agreed.  I can only imagine the nice career that Lance could have had..  Because he was an awesome player.  Man, could he EVER see the whole ice sheet!!!

He did have a pretty nice career in Europe, though, winning championships as a player in Switzerland and a coach in Germany.

Quote from: TrotskyProgression of Cornell GF and 10+ scorers:

2015    57    Hilbrich 10
2016    79    Angello 11, Kubiak 10
2017    99    Vanderlaan 15, Angello 12, Yates 12
2018   102    Angello 13, Yates 13, Rauter 11
2019   108    Barron 15, Donaldson 12, Regush 12, Vanderlaan 11

If only.........

Speaking of... most goals by a freshman:
2000    8    Matt McRae
2001    7    Vesce
2002    4    Knoepfli
2003   13    Moulson
2004    6    Carefoot
2005    5    Scott
2006    3    Kennedy
2007   11    Greening
2008   12    R. Nash
2009    3    Collins, Ross
2010    4    D'Agostino, Esposito
2011    3    Mowrey
2012    8    Ferlin
2013    2    Hilbrich, Knisley
2014    4    Buckles
2015    2    Bliss, Tschantz
2016   11    Angello
2017    6    Malott
2018    5    Barron, Betts
2019   12    Regush

On a team without Barron we'd all be insanely high on Regush.

For fun comparison:
1985   21    Nieuwendyk
in 29 games

Great as Niuewendyk was, those were such radically different times for scoring.  Just apples and oranges.  Not uncommon then to see two points a game players, as Joe was the following two years.

Fair enough.  In 1978 as a junior, Lance Nethery had 23 goals in 26 games.

Oh, and 60 assists.

And then there's this.

Wow! and his 1960-61 team goes 19-2 and does NOT make the NCSS? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960%E2%80%9361_NCAA_men%27s_ice_hockey_season What's up with that?

Their two losses were to Clarkson and RPI, so their record vs. TUC wasn't all that great. I think that was dropped from the criteria in 19x6.

This is the most oddly specific estimate I have ever seen.

This:

Bishops.  Norwich.  St. Nicks.  Macdonald.  The fuck is a "Macdonald"?

I suspect the committee made the right decision.

Probably Macdonald College of McGill University, though it would be unusual for a unit of a larger school to have its own sports teams - at least it would today.

Well, in 20x6, we'll just assign the NCAA cham-peen-ship based on overall radness.

Looks like you're right -- they didn't join McGill until 1972 so they were a separate entity at that time.

They must have had a fantastic mascot.

Well, I'm actually aware of it because I watched him coach the Kölner Haie to the 1999 Spengler Cup title (with Ralph Krueger doing color commentary on the Swiss German TV broadcasts!) when I was living in Bern.  IIRC, I posted about it on the old CHDF.
