I've lost count of how many times I've been to the Corning Glass Museum -- it was where we took out-of-town visitors when I was a kid -- but it's worth a visit if you find someone willing to drive. You might be able to use the shops to persuade someone to go with you?

Corning has a delightful little downtown with some nice shopping, if that's your thing. The museum and it's activities are first rate. Plan to spend the entire day there.

Even with a DL, renting a car is non-trivial for someone under 25 (e.g., most law students).
