Quote from: The Rancor on January 05, 2026, 10:58:06 AMComing up to see the Alaska game on Saturday, haven't been back in ages for a game. Is there anywhere worthwhile in College Town or East Hill area to get a pregame bite and a drink? Anywhere in town, really.
Hell yeah.

Would you just like my spreadsheet of restaurants in Ithaca?

Yes, Thank you! Mine is woefully out of date.
Here ya go! Hopefully it's useful to you and others. You should be able to sort it; if not, make a copy.

I stopped by the Komonz Grill on Saturday as well, haven't added it in yet but it is, as the name implies, on the Commons.

A lot of the places ARE closed for the winter break. Souvlaki was closed last weekend for sure, not sure about this weekend (it was either until the 8th or the 16th and I cannot for the life of me recall which). I think the Asian places are more likely to be open. I'll probably do a swing up in C-Town later this week and check what's open and what isn't, Google hasn't updated for winter closings.

Between the hockey and dining out I'm not sure how you find time to squeeze in law school.

Isn't Kellys Dockside closed?

Also no Boatyard or Ciao or Longshots or the Heights?

It was open when I stopped by I think early last semester.

Haven't gotten around to any of the latter yet. I think a few of them are fairly car-only. Sometimes I open the menu for a place and can't find anything I like, either.

I don't [fingerguns]. But this was compiled over 3 semesters - and many of these places are on the way to/from stuff. Or I've only been once.

Check out Sweet Melissa's next to Shortstop for ice cream whenever they open back up in the spring. (I've never had a good handle on when they close for the winter.)

Also, I think the alleged high-fat ice cream at the Dairy Bar is some myth that gets perpetuated at every college that makes its own ice cream, lol.

Have heard great things about Melissa's. I think I tried Shortstop in late October and they were closed by then.

HAHAHA. Supposedly I was told it was legally butter or something. I don't care, it slaps. I know some people prefer the Cayuga Creamery in DeWitt, which also has huge portions, but I'm a little partial to the Cornell version :')

I'm old enough to remember when the old Dairy Bar was next to a Cornell-run butcher shop, and that was always some dissonance being so close to the vet school.

Thanks for the compilation.  I'll check back the next time I'm in town.  A few comments:
The Heights is about 20 minutes from Myron Taylor by TCAT, but it's not on the way to anything except Lansing.
Purity is still in business.  We had lunch there in July.  Many people prefer its ice cream to others in town.
I'll have to check out Cayuga Creamery.  The DeWitt building was my junior high school 1962-1965, and I've patronized many of it establishments over the years since it was repurposed, including Moosewood and Cafe DeWitt.
We've had some good meals at the Strand Cafe, just east of Restaurant Row, over the last few years.

Cayuga's good. Recommend it.

Looking at the Heights and wow is it expensive. Unfortunately I don't know if my palate is refined enough to enjoy anything on the menu there... or at least, all of it looks Suspicious enough and while I eat out a lot, I don't have the budget to drop $50 on an entree I don't think I'll like... would have to go with someone who knows how to eat fancy fancy and doesn't mind finishing a plate :')

Strand is fancy, but edible fancy. I always figured it was only for Canopy people though. Will have to drop by.

Quote from: David Harding on January 05, 2026, 04:18:48 PMThanks for the compilation.

It's been a bit since I've been to the Heights, but my experience has always been that the food is fine but could be very good if they just turned up the seasoning/acid/etc. by a notch or two. Would be less critical if they weren't charging as if they had those things nailed. (They also always seem to be a couple years behind whatever the latest food trends are at higher-end places in bigger cities, but maybe that's by design.)
