I think what is left is that the player changed his mind because he liked another program. That's how I'm reading this.

Girlfriend transfers.

In the case of the women's team read that as "Girlfriend transfers."

I keed, I keed.

Then you're reading it wrong.

Maybe the kid is not smart enough to get into Cornell. That does happen.

Coaches pursue kids who seem to be smart enough to get in, but as they progress in their education, guess what, their grades and scores don't make it.

If so, there are other places that'll take them.

I don't have any idea if that's what happened.

IIRC this is what happened to John McCarron's insanely talented brother, by his own laughing admission.  He was committed to Cornell, he took his entrance exams (do Canadians take SATs or do they have some maple syrup and snowmobiling test or something?), got his scores back and tweeted "Welp -- Plan B it is!  :)"

Poor guy.  He had to settle for being drafted in the 1st Round by the Canadians.

Quote from: RatushnyFanPenn State is just crushing it in terms of grabbing AYHL (mostly NY/NJ/CT) talent.  Sternschein, Paquette, Crespo, Dowd, Gratton, Goldowski, Agriogianis and Barratt all grew up playing for AYHL teams.  Barratt is freakishly good, he's one to watch.  Agriogianis is the hardest working youth hockey player I've ever seen.  I've seen all of them play except Crespo.
That's amazing.  How?  Are you a scout?  A youth coach?
Not sure if you're being sarcastic.......:-).  I have multiple boys who play AAA hockey in the atlantic youth district.  My oldest son is off to prep school.  He's hoping to play for Cornell.  We will see!

its has only been a recent thing that many of the colleges at cornell have started to change admission policies.. some had a bias towards athletes that greatly affected who was getting in.. whether this caused issue for hockey i dont know, but several profs were called out for making it hard to some coaches to compete.

I don't know what Canadians do, but John McCarron and his family are from Michigan.

Rayhill is a prep freshman D from near Utica.  Already 5-10 despite being 15.  Not a lot of info out there though he was invited to the USA Hockey development camp.

RatushnyFan

Interesting.  My son's prep school played Gunnery twice this year and split with them.  Can't say that I recall Rayhill standing out but he's a 2001 playing mostly against 1998 and 1999 players, that's impressive.  Not that many 2001s playing with the big boys.

scoop85

Yeah, I would imagine it's not common for Freshmen to play varsity at the elite prep programs

Which reminds me, we are now perilously close to our first post-9/11 recruit.  We're inside of 6 months now.

I'm going to be 40 years older than these little bastards soon.  "Luke, I am your grandfather."  ::starwars::
